Building a planet: Just because we can!

The Xanthalian Ministry of Development announced today plans to build an entire planet from scratch, give it an atmosphere, terraform it, and colonize it; for the sole reason of showing off.
"There's no practical purpose, but we had some extra money and thought 'why not?'" Said the head of the Ministry of Development.
The planet is expected to be in place by the end of the decade, and inhabited in just under 50 years.

OOC: I've had an itch since I learned of the irrational plans of other nations to make Venus inhabitable just to show off their technology. It's good to scratch it.

Such fiscal irresponsibility reminds me why SLAGLandic corporations typically shy away from Xanthal...

...save Granny Slag, of course... opportunistic bastards...

Whoa, building a planet from scratch. This should be interesting. We bid you good luck and prosperity with this venture.

Good luck, but you're not the first. In fact, there's a planet building company. It's thread is in the II catagorey

Shut up. Ours will be better than anything those Neanderthals ever built.[/pointless burnage]

Traiden looked at the report. "To think we've spent over 150 years building Asgard, and he dares to think he can build a planet in 10? *scoffs* 10 years indeed! Although... I guess I had better wish them luck..."

Good luck with your planet building. May it prosper and grow as your people have.

((I wonder... where are you going to get the resources? ))

Your kind stumles over the smallest of obstacles. The craftworlds of our Kin will surely outshine such a... mon-keigh project.

OOC: We'll build the planet from material we'll strip off planets in the Nethlek system.

((So, really, you're not building a planet. You're moving dirt from one ball to another.))

OOC: Um... It's basically the same thing. I mean, where else are you supposed to get materials on that kind of scale?
19-11-2003, 08:05
((Well, considering that of all the mass and energy of the known universe, the matter and energy you know and can measure make up only about 4%, I'd say there's plenty of resources waiting to be plundered.))

OOC: I still don't see how that counts. If you buy an egg and veggies and bacon and breading and make an omlette it's considered made from scratch, even though it was made from premanufactured ingredients. Building a planet with pieces taken from other planets is the same basic idea.

((But if you eat the eggs and, veggies, bacon, and breading, you don't have an omlette. And if you strip an omlette down to its consituent parts to make another omlette, that's another matter entirely.))

His Most Enlightened One would like to point out that the stripping of a planet's mass, on such a grand scale, will severely effect the gravitational field of said planet and system, thus completely screwing it up, not to mention putting other planets at risk. His Most Enlightened One also notes that such expenditures are foolhardy, as there are more than enough planets in the universe capable of supporting life.

Haha! Neener Neener! "We are the mighty people of Xanthal! We have nothing better to do than foolishly attempt to create a planet! How boring our nation must be!"

We know. We do not care what happens to the planets themselves, they are uninhabitable. There will also be minimal impact on the overal gravitational field of the Nethlek system, as that system houses over 40 planets. We know that the project is a waste of money, but we have money to waste.
