Xanthal became a democracy and no one cares...

I posted two topics about it, and neither got any real replies. Oh well, I'm not typing up another one. I just came here to gripe. Anyway, Xanthal is a democracy now. Final notice. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Two comments. 1. Cry me a river. 2. Build a bridge and get over it.

Not everyone cares so deal with it ;)

OOC: Please don't take this as flaming or flame-baiting. It is criticism, both constructive and otherwise. My hope is that it will help you.

In terms of RPing value, what type of nation you have doesn't matter, as long as you try and RP from that perspective. For good (and better) examples see Whispering Voices, Melkor Unchained, Iesus Christi, Menelmacar, Wombat News (OK, technically not a nation), and other dedicated RPers (Early Angelus stuff was outstanding, 01 stuff is usually pretty good too).

What people dislike about Xanthal is the "I have everything" attitude.

Genetic engineering to mix humans, elves, demons, vampires, dragons, etc. etc. to make a super-race...a perfect population with no faults and excelling in everything. Personally, I think such a race is a fault, but that isn't the issue. The issue is the "I have everything" type of godmoding.

Then there is the "I have the best force fields, the fastest FTL, the most powerful weapons, and I can even build a planet!"

The problem is twofold.

1: People who RP long and hard to get their technology, to develop it over time, don't like it when newer people rush in and claim to have it better. Such newer people are usually shuned (as you are).

2: If you have everything, where is the RP? Where is the fun? I don't know if you noticed but sci-fi isn't about technology, it is about people, it is about us.

All the ray-guns and spaceships and aliens...they are all plot tools. They set up a very specific environment so the author can share his/her views on how we might react. It is all about making a story about people.

I haven't seen people in your posts, just the "I have everything" godmoding stuff. Simply said, it is boring.

So, back to the point. In my view, most players don't care that Xanthal is a democracy now. Democracy, dictatorship, autocracy...it doesn't matter. What matters is that you RP it to the best of your ability...which you haven't been.

And it is that reason that I respect the players I mentioned above (and far more then just them).

I hope that helps.

I understand, but I like to RP with everything. It's easier. I don't mind being shunned as long as some people will play with me.

I am compelled to respond to your points.
First of all, the Xanthalian race is not a super race. They live a lot longer than Humans, but other than that they aren't a whole lot better than any one other race.
Second, I know I don't have the best technology. The Xanthalian government likes to act like we do, but the statement doesn't create the fact. Still, our technology is very good. I'm always sure to leave a loophole flaw for the keen opponent though.
I know I don't RP the development process of my technology, but that's because the few times I've tried I did a really bang-up job of it and also because the end result is the same if you RP it or not.
We do have a little bit of everything, it's true. We're not omnipotent though, not by a long shot.
My RPs are great, once you get into them; my character RPs are the best ones though.

Bottom line, once you actually get into an RP (that is, an actual roleplay, not just a thread on technology) with me, you realize that when all is said and done we're not nearly as intimidating as it would seem if you just read our development announcements.

Congratulations on Xanthal becomming a democracy; perhaps now would be an auspicious time to negotiate an opening of diplomacy between Chimaea and Xanthal?

This may be true. But I have to say I've never seen an Xanthal CO-RP.

Chimaea: It's never a bad time to open diplomatic relations.

Sentient Peoples: You should search for some. There are a few good recent ones, one really good old one that died off when it extended Haraki's duration of intrest.
