First Imperial Age 1867-1918 A.D.
Victoria II originally founded Isla de Penguinata as a colony of the UK. However, shortly after arriving, her and her band of followers declared independence from the UK, thus creating Isla de Penguinata. At first, there was a sharp population boom, because millions were tired of lack of rights in other countries. In 1872, Victoria’s husband died, creating much sorrow throughout the nation. In 1888, there were riots in a few cities throughout the country, and Victoria had to enforce strict laws to control the populace. She ruled until 1912 as a supreme ruler. However, there were growing concerns about her amount of power, and Penguinatans had a legislature and the position of an elected Prime Minister, and Matthew Arnuld was the first elected official of Isla de Penguinata. Queen Victoria II ruled until 1918 as a ceremonial and traditional leader. However, she was discovered eating the last living Golden Penguin, a very tasty, but now forbidden by law, dish. After this scandalous action, she was immediately forced from power, thus beginning the Democracy Era.
The 1st Age of Democracy 1919-1996 A.D.
In 1919, Matthew Arnuld was elected President of Isla de Penguinata. He introduced conservative policies and moral standards in government. Arnuld created the first Presidential Cabinet, and introduced elections in all aspects of Penguinatan life. Arnuld is seen as the Father of Penguins, and is respected greatly everywhere. He is seen by far as the best President of Isla de Penguinata. Arnuld made the economy jump from strong to frightening in a short number of years. Thanks to him, Penguinatans boast one of the best economies and standards of living in the world. The average household income is around $61,000. The poorest make around $23,000, and are not so poor compared to other nations of the world.
Matthew Arnuld helped Isla de Penguinata survive through the Great Depression, and through a nuclear attack. He allowed our nation to persevere through hard times and good, through tight spots and broad possibilities. He also suffered having to deal with several terrorist attacks. At the end of his rule, Arnuld had 6 children, and a loving wife, Lisa Marie Sanchez-Arnuld. She ran in every election until Jennifer Coulten was reelected in 1982.
He was not reelected in 1971; because a movement led by far left ideologists were trying to destroy his name. Therefore, a conservative General named Joe Jackson was elected.
Joe Jackson was 40 years old with 3 children and a loving wife when he was elected. Sadly, 4 weeks after was inaugurated, a foreign national assassinated him. Joe Jackson was seen as the 2nd Matthew Arnuld, and was the first African-Penguinatan elected to the President’s office. He never got to lead his beloved country, but his legacy is sure to carry on through his children.
After Joe Jackson died, Ember Awagu, the Vice President of his administration, was inaugurated as President. She served his four years, and sought reelection. Awagu had been the Ambassador to the UN under the latter part of the Arnuld Administration, and obviously Vice President under the Jackson Administration.
Under the Awagu Administration, little change occurred. Taxes increased somewhat, and the economy remained booming. A few terrorist attacks occurred under her administration also. Moral values were once again put in place in the government, and she used her strict beliefs as a guide in everyday affairs.
In 1975, Jennifer Coulten was elected as President. A staunch conservative, Coulten outlawed the Proletarian Revolution Party, and made the economy boom a little more. Taxes shifted during her Administration, but dropped overall. Jennifer Coulten officially made abortion illegal, but made sure that gay marriages were legal. Coulten was reelected 5 times, and was loved by most Penguinatans. Her approval rating never dropped below 87%, the highest ever held over a period of time. At the end of her rule, her popularity was dropping, due to smear campaigns and ads about her. Coulten suffered only one terrorist attack during her rule. She has 3 children, and a loving husband. At the end of her rule, however, she was extremely bitter and angry. Penguinatans wanted an Emperor, and she thought that it was a betrayal of their freedom.
In 1996, Josef Van Guren was elected Emperor of Isla de Penguinata, thus beginning the Second Imperial Age.
Second Imperial Age 1997-2000
The newly elected Emperor immediately went back on his promises made during his campaign. He dissolved the Penguin Senate, and burned the Citizen Rights Bills. Van Guren ensured that all freedoms that existed before were stripped.
Soon after, the nation of Omz launched Tomahawk Cruise Missiles at the Imperial Palace. Jake McDermont, a lone pilot, clearly saw the missiles on his radar. However, when asked about the status of the aircraft and whether missiles had been released, he deliberately lied to get rid of the Emperor. Van Guren died 20 minutes later, as well as most of his Imperial Council. McDermont moved on to create the PFF, or Penguinatan Freedom Front. They fought alongside Penguinatan allies to remove the Imperial oppressors from power. After a few years of struggle, it was eventually achieved. New elections were held, and Jake McDermont was elected President of Isla de Penguinata.
The 2nd Age of Democracy 2000 A.D.-?
Isla de Penguinata entered its 2nd Age of Democracy when Jake McDermont was elected President. During his reign, Isla de Penguinata prospered further. He was well accepted by the international community, and was loved by Penguinatans. When a majority vote was held in 2006 to move to space, McDermont announced he would be resigning. McDermont is credited with upholding Penguinatan power, and reforming the tax system.
In 2007, Kei Cho was elected Empress of Isla de Penguinata. At the time, the nation was space-based, and inhabited a Star League planet by the name of Tharkad. Penguinatans decided to have a system of government in which a Praetor or Empress would be elected every 15 years. Kei Cho is so far credited with expanding Penguinatan power and creating peace and prosperity for Isla de Penguinata. The end to that peace is approaching soon, as Penguinatans rally behind the Drakonian Imperium, preparing to go to war because of a nuclear attack on that ally. Cho has also been credited with moving the UN ranking back to the Right for the first time in a century. The UN Ranking is now a Capitalist Paradise for Isla de Penguinata, and Penguinatans all cheer under that banner. Also, Cho is credited with creating the Corporate Commonwealth of Isla de Penguinata, currently home to 2 protectorate nations. More will be created, says Cho, as the might of the Commonwealth spreads farther. She is soon to rebuild and re-organize the military, and is created with the quick rise of infastructure in the new mainland of Isla de Penguinata. She has named the "parent" nation of the Corporate Commonwealth the "Corporate Dominion."
