Deep beneath the streets of Exetergrecia was another, much older city moulded into the bedrock. Centuries ago it was the capital of the old kingdom, the Kingdom of Tregou’al. The kingdom prided itself on its advanced technology and that was its undoing. During a test of an experimental drive for its youthful space program, something happened and a large yellow dome was seen to cover the city from hundreds of miles away. No one knew what actually happened as the city looked to have been vaporised completely. With it, the seat of power was gone and civil war ravaged the lands. Millions of lives were lost in the wars that lasted six decades, but from the ashes of the old kingdom, Draconis Nightcrawlis was born.

The old city shared the same name as the new city. What happened that fateful day has long since faded into history and the people of the new kingdom believed that the old capital had been completely obliterated that day. Some people however, knew differently, they knew that the ground had swallowed up the entire city and its ruins had been moulded into the bedrock. Over time it became home to the hideous underworld of Draconis Nightcrawlis. Vampires came to hide from the sun, organised crime came to use it as a base for their operations. Even the odd mad scientist came to use the cities former labs to do hideous experiments. No one in the government knew that it existed, but for those who believed the rumours it was known as Caer chan Caddug, or City of Darkness.

One vampire, known as Lestat, ruled Caer chan Caddug. He oversaw most of what happened in the ruins, but of course he could not see everything. Ruling the ruins however was not want he wanted, he had much higher plans for himself, to rule all of Draconis Nightcrawlis. The only thing standing in his way was the Draconian Royal family and its government. It was an obstacle he knew would require a lot of man, perhaps vampire, power to destroy the kingdoms army. Lestat was adamant that he would succeed, even if it meant that it took several decades. He was a vampire, he could afford to wait what seemed an eternity to mortals.

Lestat watched the ruins from the window of what had been the royal palace. There was not much to see however as the ruins of a large building blocked most of his view. He had what very few other buildings in Caer chan Caddug had and that was electricity. The old labs and maybe one or two mafia hideouts had it too, but the ruins were largely lit by ever burning torches. Although Lestat liked electricity that lit his home, he much preferred the feeling only a torch could give out in its light. It reminded him of what times were like when he first became a vampire.

His train of thought was ruined when the door to his study opened and in walked a robed figure. Lestat watched, with annoyance as it walked across the room uninvited and stood in front of his desk.

“I trust this means you have found it,” Lestat demanded.

The figure nodded, “It is in Balmora,” he replied.

Lestat grew angry and impatient. “Then why are you stood around here then?” he yelled at him. “Go get it.”

The figure nodded and left the study. Lestat wanted the ring as soon as possible. He could not have it if everyone around him was idiotic and simple minded. If it wasn’t for the sun he would go out and get it himself, but he’d rather not risk being incinerated by being out in daylight.

Once out in the street, the robed figure took his hood off. His skin was pale as like Lestat, he too was a vampire. Intense green eyes peered through the sunken eye sockets.

"The things I do for you Lestat," he growled.

Back up in the study, Lestat was leaning against his desk contemplating how he could use the power of the ring. Also stood in the room was a young blind woman. She was his seer and advisor, she often hid her face under a scarlet hood.

"It would appear that Karl is about to meet someone who could prove useful," she said, breaking the silence.
