How you look is not important. What you are celebrating is placing women on the pedestal so that men may gawk at them and critically highlight what they perceive to be failures and shortages in the female form. It is absolutely disgusting that parading women dressed and conditioned to appeal to the current trend in male taste is somehow ‘celebrating’ women. If you really wanted to celebrate women, why don’t you go work at a woman’s refuge? I would call that appreciating the role of women beyond a sexual or domestic function.

I certainly hope this isn't being judged solely on pictures, because frankly it takes a lot more effort to create a person from whole cloth than find a picture somewhere.

We should require each contestant to give a speech about some topic. (What should be done about pollution? Why is diversity important? etc...) That would add an element of actual RP into this.

OOC: Check my Miss NationStates thread for ideas on judging. I didn't allow pics so as to encourage RP. There're some good ideas on running this that you can feel free to copy or not as you like. (The name's mine, but that's an IC issue. Feel free to lift ideas as you like on how to run it. :D )
A short run down of how I did mine that might give you some ideas:
First, I recruited judges. Then set a rating from 1-100, based on general beauty, national costume, evening gown, swimsuit, talent, interview, and RP. The contestants RPed, the judges judged. Then I averaged each judges scores and the highest score won.

3. Invite anyone else who is judging to ask questions

Anwe stepped through the opened door of the private plane and started down the steps. Her long red hair billowing in the strong breeze. Her floral summer dress pushed against her legs. She stopped halfway down the steps and looked out into the winds, resting both hands on the railing. Behind her, Maureen, her primary make-up/dressing assistant quietly fumed at the interruption... she hated being inbetween things, be they places or projects. Anwe smiled, but only a little. Wouldn't do to let Maureen know that her irritation was reinforcing my behavior... Maureen might stop being visibly upset.

There in the distance she could see the limo approaching. She pursed her lips thoughtfully. It is odd to be pampered she thought. Well, she reasoned practically, better get used to it for the duration of the competition. She finished walking down the stairs.

The limo pulled up, and the chauffeur got out and opened the door. She smiled at him and slid into the vehicle, then waited patiently for Maureen to get in the other side. Here's my 15 minutes of fame...

OOC: That is exactly why I banned pics from mine. Several contestants were actually DQed because of it.
However this is a different contest, run by NSS*s rules, and I encourage him to make it as different as possible. :P
