Altaran Searches For Breaker's Yard (And has left the CACE)

15-11-2003, 22:55
The TA is looking for a nation that may have a breaker's yard for large, ocean-going vessels. We have 12 vessels that are obselete, and are carrying toxic chemicals. We need a nation to take these ships, and break them into their component parts (obviously, since the ships will be yours, you may dispose of the components as you see fit).
This contract will provide a large boost to the winner's economy, creating jobs for the yard and allowing the salvage to be sold on.
Bids for the contract should be posted here. The winner may also enjoy our choice for future contracts, should they become available.

Evil Overlord Enterprises' Dark Torch Marine Services division can handle ships up to and including aircraft carriers and supertankers. EOE has extensive experience in this field, and our HAZMAT teams can handle any hazard- specifically including nuclear power cores and expended fuel.

The ships must be brought to Amida Island by the customer. It is not necessary for the vessels to be in a "Strip-Ship" condition, as the Dark Torch salvors are fast and efficient at stripping vessels for decommissioning.

This sounds good to us.

Perhaps we have not made ourselves clear; the nation/company will need to bid for the contract to break the ships up. If noone wants to bid for the contract, then we suppose we could come to some arrangement with Dark Torch.

Dark Torch Marine Services will strip and decommission ships for energy costs + 10% of hull value (using open market pricing in EOE Credits). Each vessel so decommissioned is therefore priced on a sliding scale, depending on the energy costs required to clean the vessel. Nuclear decontamination is particularly expensive, due to the energy outlay for the laser containment/radiation suppression system developed by Darth Norm several years ago, but DTMS is confident our bid will still significantly undercut any competitors.

This sounds like a good offer, and in light of our past dealings, we have decided to award the contract to Dark Torch.

There are twelve vessels in total, all variants of the Ivan Rogov class landing assault vessel. They were used to carry asbestos lining for disposal, and are contaminated as such. A single vessel, the Rogov, was used to dispose of nuclear waste. The vessels are....mostly....seaworthy, and should have no troubles in sailing to Amida Island. Hulls of these vessels are valued at around $4.5million.

I am assuming that the total value of the hulls is $4.5 million (USD). This comes to roughly EOE Cr13,200, plus the energy costs (TBD). DTMS uses Alpenbanque Zurich for our international business. Once the vessels arrive at Amida, DTMS representatives will accept transfer of the vessels once payment of the hull value is deposited in the Alpenbanque account. The energy costs will be determined during the actual operations, and a final bill will be submitted once the vessels are completely decontaminated. Altaran monitors are welcome to observe the process to ensure proper accounting practices and disposal of hazardous waste.

DTMS is happy to do business with the Altaran government, and looks forward to doing more business in the future.

We will begin preparing the ships for the journey. We have every confidence in DTMS and do not feel that observers will be necessary.

Unfornately, we regret to have to remind Altaran that they must seek CACE approval before trading with capitalist nations, which TEO is. Please post the appropriate proposal in the Coalition Body.

Please see the topic I posted, namely 'I am leaving'.

For any interested parties, Altaran is no longer a member of the CACE.
