UN Is Getting More And More Liberal...

I don't have much of a problem with that, yet, being a liberal myself, but some of these resolutions are pushing it...

Some of the resolutions, especially the current one, are blatantly overriding national sovereignity. And some of the resolutions that have been passed are just outright stupid.
The United Nations has many problems, which is why we of Sharldonia do not join, we will not be pushed about by people who are not even of our nation.

This won't change if the people who don't like it quit or refuse to join.

Indeed. I mean - I'm a crazy liberal, I like the environment. I like social justice but some of these resolutions that are being passed are ridicilous. Like the one being passed right now.
Basically it gives everyone the right of eternal life. And I have to start cutting all kinds of things just to keep my tax level reasonable. It's annoying I tell you...
I will not alter this nation just to please a bunch of United Nations powermongers.

Indeed. You do realise that if that resolution is accepted it will effectively ban meat-eating? Oh, and not even mentioning bacteria in the earth. Building projects are out too. As well as harvesting. You have to repsect the grains right to live!

Well... I'm just going to have to 'creatively interpret' that resolution to mean, well, absolutely nothing.
To accomodate for the 5% taxraise in my nation after it was implemented I'll have "National Respect For All Life" day.

Kaze Progressa were to join the UN, but pulled out at the last second. (OOC: because I had an out-of-date email still listed in my profile.)
We feel that we should maintain control over our own affairs, feeling the common UN agenda, while an admirable concept, is ineffective in governing many individual states.

Greetings:
As the UN seems to spiral farther into innanity and utopianism, the Royal Commonwealth has seriously considered resigning from the organization.
However, there may be a better solution. As Nianacio says, if those who don't like what is happening leave, the situation will only become worse. Therefore, the Royal Commonwealth respectfully offers an alternative. By grouping the disaffected nations in the UN together, we can start pushing through our own resolutions and make our opinions known.
What I am suggesting is a (for lack of a better term) "shadow" UN. If various UN members (and especially delegates) can learn what other nations agree with them, a network can be formed. Through this network, the dispersed delegates, currently working on their own, can inform their fellows of resolutions to be endorsed, and to inform the various regions to vote in blocs. In this way, the UN could be blocked from authorizing more silly resolutions in the least, and put through actually useful legislation at best.
Any comments, suggestions, critiques, and so forth would be appreciated.
With Respect,
Minister of Foreign Affairs Voegelin, Royal Commonwealth of Oakeshottland.

Now the nation of Raysia has departed the UN. How many other nations of common sense and moral vigor will be alienated and forced to resign by the reigning idiocy of current UN resolutions? Something must be done about this. Either our nations must unite into a voting bloc, acting in unity to bring about changes, or we must all resign. This lukewarm middle-ground is serving none of our nations well.
With Respect,
Minister of Foreign Affairs Voegelin, Royal Commonwealth of Oakeshottland.

OOC:
Actually, my resolution was in a way conservative.
Sure, it looks liberal on the outside, banning child labor and all that. But I intentionally wasn't clear on what a "child" is, so the wiser nations could easily ignore it.
In fact, I then dropped out of the UN altogether, knowing that many thousands of UN nations would now be banning their little ones from free enterprise. Destroying their economy! Starving the poor! Limiting freedom and lowering civil rights, since children now can't work legally, and are forced into child prostitution for their families to make ends meet!
Meanwhile, my economy, which never relied on child labor anyway, is booming ahead, inching towards perfection, lining the pockets of my corporate leadership even as the developing liberal UN states sink ever lower into nothingness.
Yes.
Plus, I have this "nice" image now. He he he.

It's either that or they starve, and then I sell their body tissues, organs, extracted fluids, DNA samples and blood to the wealthy elites in SB.
Actually... I think I'll do both.
OOC: The problem with the NS UN is that it has enforcement power. The real UN explicitly has no power to enforce anything, the worst it can do is ask nations to embargo a nation. If nations decide not to, it cannot do anything. The reason Calcednie refuses to join the UN is because it wishes to conduct itself much differently than most nations, and refuses to allow other nations to override its decisions.
