OOC: What this is about: For my journalism class, I'm supposed to write an article about somethign that intrests me, and because I go to a fairly liberal school, writting about war and the like was out. So, I decided to write about one of my true passions, autmotive racing. So here I am, banging out an article on RX-7s and Supras and Stangs and running from the cops, when I realise, this could posibly be a good RP.

So, I'm gonna see if I can work it out, ya know, it might be a good fun CO-RP, maybe not. Its my version of one of those damn international acadamies taht are popping up here and there. The premise is pretty basic, just a bunch of kids who race cars at night in Imitora. You can play a driver, an on looker, love intrest, scared parent, rival driver or student, whatever. The only think I ask is no one showing up with Ferraris and Lamborghinis and other super cars, and if you're gonna be a driver...please, have a general idea of whats on your car. Also, no super characters. These are teenagers, 18 and 19 year olds. I dont want any ex special forces super snipers with shaddy pasts turned high school students. If you want to have a modified car, but dont know what to go with, TGRam me, and I'll help you out. Also, ricers are welcome. Where would street racing be without Civics and their fart pipes? So, here we go...

IC:

Speed. It was the crack to his addiction. The water to his pool. The life to his breath. Everything. Ever since he was young, Marcus had wanted to go fast. Very fast. Faster than sound, faster than light, faster than time. Speed was everythgin to him, and he wanted it.

It started off inocently enough, going to the Imitora Grand Prix, watching the cars go by at speeds over two hundred miles per hour. The scream of European and Asian engines piercing the air as Ferraris and Toyotas shot by, multi colored blurs in the day.

Then it was NASCAR season, and he watched, unbiased, as Fords and Chevys and Dodges battled it out to cross the finish line. He ignored the calls of "Neck" and "Hick". To him, they were all cars. And they were all fast. When Marcus turned 16, and got his first car, it was a dream to him.

A late model Acura Integra GS-R. It had speed, looked good, and was fun to drive. And his mother liked it because it would be safe, and his dad liked it because, well, you cant kill an Acura. And it wasn't long till Marcus found the other side to owning a fast car. The actuall speed.

Imitora has fairly lax speeding laws, with higways, in some parts, being open season, where you could go as fast as you felt you could handle. And where there was a speed limit, it was somewhere in the 80s. But that was to slow for Marcus. Soon, he made sure to take the long way to school every morning. After all, he made a half hour drive in ten minutes.

School, is where it ended. Marcus, although being great in English, bombed in just about everythgin else. He strugeld to keep his history grades up, and he didnt even try with math. It was odd. He could barely pass the class, but when it came to numbers, he could move them around, and manipulate them to do things to his car, that not even the pros had figured out. But now, that was all behind him.

He sat, leaning agaisnt the visably stock forest green Acura, the front door open. He watched as the cars moved around, it was gonna be a good night. He looked on to the power houses taht would have the later races of the evening; Supras, RX-7s, Skylines, and every now and then a Mustang GT or Cobra. He wanted anyone of those more than anythgin, but he was fine with his little 'Teg. He pulled his jacket around a little tighter, teh wind was brisk tonight, and waited for somethign to happen.

Jenna quickly zipped up her fleece jacket and pulled her long blonde hair out from under as she slipped out of her dorm room.

All day she had heard the excited buzz of whispers floating around the school – racing tonight. . . outside of town. . . tonight. . .

She couldn’t be late. She had to be there – even if it meant catching a ride with her friend Marie’s geeky younger brother. The kid drove a Geo Metro. A rusty, banged-up Metro, for gawd’s sake! It was embarassing to be seen in that car, but Jenna would rather be embarassed than miss the racing. . .

She hurried across the parking lot and pulled open the passenger side door, wincing as it let out the tortured groan of metal on metal.

“Hey, Ryan.” Jenna slide into the seat and fastened the safety belt.

“Hi, Jenna.”

At least Marie’s brother wasn’t much of a talker. That suited Jenna’s mood fine tonight. She’d rather spend the drive thinking about how unfair it was that her parents had shipped her off to school thousands of miles from home – and not let her bring her own car. And they wouldn’t let her buy something to use while she was here, either. So very unfair. Oh well, Marie would be there as soon as she got off work tonight – so at least Jenna would have a decent ride home. Jenna smiled to herself – if she didn’t find another way home, of course. . .

OOC: I'll be back in a few hours.

IC:

Jared Schacht was your typical popular kid while growing up in Ashland Raysia. He was the first born son of a very wealthy Raysian Aerospace Engineer, and thus, was spoiled for most of his life.

He got girls whenever he wanted them, not from his average (possibly below average) looks, but rather from the highly regarded vehicle his parents bought him for his 17th Birthday.

http://www.bateshome.com/jordan/fordgt.jpg

It was a 2006 Ford GT, with a 500 horsepower 6-speed engine inside that would roar to life every time he started it, a sound he was most proud of, compared to the whiney Riceburners his friends tended to like. It had some personal modifications, such as a heads up display that would project onto the windshield, but other than that and a sound system, it was fairly stock. He wanted some upgrades for the engine, but they weren't really too much of a priority to this kid who never used NOS in his life.

He loved it, and even though it was now almost 8 years old, it served him well, and he kept it in top shape and appearance, having added several coats of wax et cetera to keep it looking just like new from the beginning.

His father had encouraged him to have fun at the Race track and in the designated racing areas, but obviously, he couldn't resist opening her up on the streets of Ashland. He only got fined once or twice, and managed to keep it a secret from his father, but that didn't discourage him from eventually joining an underground Racing team.

Jared eventually moved out of Raysia for "College," and found himself on the streets of Imitora, with yet another team, signing up for tonight's race. He wore a black jumpsuit with a high collar, his hair combed into a fairly short array of messy-looking dark blonde hair.

His car's display lit up with a map of the course as he double checked it with the one he got from one of the Race's organizers.

Calculon: The year was 2019 and I was just a lowly robot arm working in an automotive research lab. I was working on project Satan. A savage and intelligent military vehicle built from the most evil part of the most evil cars in all the world. The steering wheel from Hitler's staff car. The left turn signal from Charles Manson's VW. The windshield wipers from that car that played Knight Rider.

Fry: Hey, Knight Rider wasn't evil!

Calculon: His windshield wipers were! It didn't come up much in the show, though. Anyway, only after bringing Project Satan to life did they discover they made a horrible mistake. For you see, [In creepy voice] it was pure evil. Powered by Ed Begley Jr.'s electric motor. The most evil propulsion system ever conceived.

As Marcus lookedon, he watched more cars pull up. His eyes fell on the GT40, he knew it well. Another rich college punk. He didn't know what true racing was, feeling the speed from a car you yourself had built up from the ground to make it faster, or the pride in knowing that your car is your own, and eveythign on it is their because of you. He siged quietly, and continued watchign cars show up in the grocery store parking lot that sat next to Interstate 121, but more importantly, the acces road that ran the full length of the higway, offering plenty of racing spots.

He got bored, waitign for somethign big to happen. After all, there was a sort of underground code of honor. You stayed with your groups. You wouldn't see any of the performance car drivers challenging Marcus. Despite the toys that sat under the hood of the GS-R, he knew that a few of those stock Skylines would rip him to shreds. He siged, and slid into the drivers seat of his car, and shut the door.

He gently pressed down on the gas, and teh throaty whine of the aftermarket exhaust seemed to comfort him. He poped the car into first, and drove off in the parking lot. He saw a Geo Metro pull up. Maybe... he thought to himself, and he turned the wheel towards the older looking car. He turned down the stereo, and leaned out of the car. "Whats up? What kinda quarter you run in that?" he asked the driver, hoping that maybe he car was a sleeper.

Sonny pulled up in his 1972 Fiat Dino 2400 GT. Today was his 18th birthday, and he was feeling lucky. He reached over and kissed his girlfriend, there was only one thing he loved more than her, and he was driving it. He rescued his Dino from a Variscan junkyard, and spent painstaking manhours putting it back together, finding original parts, not only restoring it, but making it better.

Driving slowly through the parking lot he eyed the competition, and their fancy American cars, confident that his little baby has what it takes to bring him home the winner.

Jared looked at his watch... 90 minutes till race time, and it had just gotten dark. Smiling to himself, he set his mapper program to memorize the exact layout of the course as he would drive through it, knowing what potholes to miss, where the banks were and how to hit them, and where any oncoming traffic was going to flow to... he had never really done much actual racing In traffic before, so he felt like he was planning a high speed chase sequence for a big-time action movie.

He started up an onramp onto I-121, and took the whole thing in second, wanting to feel the raw accelleration as he climbed up to the freeway in a matter of seconds, all cylindars blazing with the sound of gasoline exploding in sequence, pistons pounding away that sounded like they wanted to break free of their large cylindars... even though he hadn't been personally responsible for every weld in that block, he had gotten to know the exact sequences, with his own tuning, to the point where he could almost slow down time and hear each spark plug fire.

Jared Shcacht's GT, which his friends called the "Shaq Attack" (even though it never really stuck with him,) took the highway at an 'easy' 95 miles per hour, weavng in and out of trucks and minivans on the underkept road, testing his handling around a series of offramps and onramps that would eventually trurn himself around and head back to the starting point near the onrampt to I-121.

He pulled up to where the race was to start, and cruised the scene... racers were starting to show up, but mostly just showing off.

Despite the 'cool' factor of Jared's car, he didn't feel like showing off... yes, he had used it to get girls and respect and the like, but he wasn't all that hubris-minded or show-offy.

He glanced at the other drivers as he idled through the lot, wondering who among them was his real competition.

17-11-2003, 00:45
Marcus watched the GT40 pull into the lot. He toyed with the stick for a second, before excusing himself, and pulled away from the Metro. He drove carefully between the other cars, and was temtped to stop a few times, and show off the sounds system.

However, he didnt, and pulled up next to the GT40. He looked the car over. Just as he thought. Store bought speed. He stepped out of the GS-R, and peeked his head in the window of the car. "Nice," he muttered, looking the car over. "What you run?"
17-11-2003, 01:31
Jared saw the Acura out of the corner of his eye as it pulled up, he smiled to himself, but let it fade as the competitor addressed him.

"I run Nine Five on the quarter on a bad day... How about you? That Teg looks pretty nice."
Imitora
17-11-2003, 01:42
"Tens when its cold." He eyed up the driver. Why the hell is he wearing a jump suit? he wondered, looking at him. He shrugged to himself, and looked back at the car.

"Of course, if I was a rich brat and daddy bought me everythgin, I could probably run better. Good luck out there. Most of those guys run 8s on a regular basis. And thats before the touch the nitrous."
17-11-2003, 01:53
Jared rolled his eyes slightly before casually just pulling forward. Nitrous on a quarter mile? What idiot would do that?

Yes, he did have no fashion sense whatsoever, and if he had worn a lampshade on his head he would probably look like something out of the 80s.

And what did he mean by that rich brat line? Man... I'm gonna smoke this faggot sooo hard because of that...

With that, Jared took off to run the circuit a few more times.
Imitora
17-11-2003, 02:02
Marcos shrugged as the GT40 took off. He's gonna waste his gas doing that, he thought, watching him speed off. He was about to slide back into the 'Teg, when he heard a voice.

"Oh Marcus!" a femine voce called to him.

This is gonna be a long night, he thought.
17-11-2003, 02:14
Jared continued to run the track, over an over again. He was wasting gas, but that was irrellevant, he could fill up just before the race started. He took each lap faster and faster, watching the active traction monitor display, noting where on the track he should avoid if he was to keep his momentum.

OOC: Can I get a description of the track? Like any weird curves or anythong worth mentioning? or is it just straight freeway?
Imitora
17-11-2003, 02:17
OOC: The part that is raced on is just straight freeway. Later on, more of 121 will be explored, but right now, its just a well paved quarter mile sprint.
17-11-2003, 02:31
OOC: ahh, gotcha, woulda been helpful to point that out earlier :P

IC:

After feeling like he got to know the road well enough, Jared began to prepare for the night's event... the quarter-mile sprint.

He pulled off to the side of the road and stopped the car, letting others zoom by him.

He calmed himself for a moment... focused... meditated, then gently started up the car.

Then, not so gently, he reved the engine up all the way, a quick test. He smiled to himself, then set the stopwatch on his HUD.

On the first run, he floored it and popped the clutch as hard as he could without killing. The GT40 blasted forward, with an amazing quarter of a second of burning rubber, then straight forward from there. He felt the G-Force on his chest as the car accelerated fast, and passing the 440-yard mark on his odometer, came to a stop, still haging to the side of the road. He looked up at the HUD.... 8.7.

"Not bad for the first quarter...."

He reset the clock and adjusted his traction settings, then performed the same motion... 8.1

He kept trying again and again, hitting 8.0 every now and again, and once or twice hitting 7.7 in some odd fluke.

On the last run he got 7.9, then just kept going, looking for a gas station nearby to fill up.

Marcus sighed. He watched the approaching blonde with no intrest, and hoped that this would be over quick. "Marky! Whats up?"

"Marisa," he acknowledged, bowing slightly. He really didn't like the girl. She was everything he wasnt. A teeny bopper cheerleader slut type that only went to these races to get laid. For some reason, she had taken a sudden intrest in Marcus, and it scared him.

She was a good looking girl, and on one hand, Marcus would'nt have minded gettin a nice piece of her. However, there was just somethign about her that didn't turn him on. He smiled a fake smile as she approached, and wondered if maybe the guy across the parking lot in the green Eclipse would get her attention. He always seemed to have a few girls around him.

"Are you racing tonight Marky my love?"

"Eh, maybe," he said, not adding if it gets me away from you. "The big race tonight is for the bigger cars. I might get a coupla sprints out later though. No big money." He shruged, and pointed to teh higway, now empty of main stream traffic, where a few of the cars were gathering.
____

The brunette stepped out of the car, a Nissan R34 Skyline, and brushed a lock off her mid cut hair out of her face. She stood next to the black Skyline, hoping that there would be an ample challenge tonight. She shifted her weight, and looked at her watch. They should be showing up any second now.

Sonny's girfriend, Natalia, got out of the car, she would be waiting by the finish line.

The Dino slipped car into place besides Marcus' car, and turned off his radio. The tiny vehicle, reflecting european design for years was more than it appeared, with its stock v6 sitting in Sonny's garage at the moment.

Marcus looked over at the Dino. "Nice car," he said, before turning back to the girl standing next to the Skyline. "Nice talking to ya Chloe, and good luck. I'll see ya at the finish line." He slid into his car, and closed the door, gunning it, and speeding off towards the finish line. As he crossed the line, he looked down at the dash mounted stop watch. 10.12, not bad, he thought, wondering if he could drop a few seconds, and run with the big boys tonight.

He decided not to, he didnt want to risk pushing the 'Teg to hard tonight, and pulled off into the median. He flipped the neon switch to 'Run' so that when he turned the car off, the under body lights continued to shine. He looked around at some of the smaller cars that were waiting, and then his eyes fell on a girl he didn't know all that well. He walked over to her, she looked Itallian in descent. "Hey, never seen you here before. Marcus Bass," he said, extending his hand.

Marcus leaned against his car, when he heard the sound of a throaty rumble that turned into the whine of a car excelerating hard through third gear into fourth, then slowing. The Kawasaki Ninja Green 240SX slowly turned, pulling into an empty space next to Marcus's Integra. The air around it shook, the lyrics from Dr. Dre's "Whats the Difference" could clearly be heard from the car.

The door swung open. Connor Williams had always been very high profile. It came with being the second child behind a set of identical twins. He looked around at the gathering crowd, and smiled. "Ladies, no need to fear, for Connor Williams is here!" He laughed, and walked over to Marcus. "Marcus, mi amigo, so quiet and composed. Where's the thump I expect from you," he said, still laughing, and shaking his friend's hand hard.

Marcus smiled, returning the shake. "Oh, its here bro," he said, pulling what looked like a small TV remote out of his pocket. Adjusting his 'Imitora Tech' hat, he clicked a button, and the sound from Connor's car seemed to disapear with the sound of "Forget About Dre" drifting from Marcus's car. The ground all but shook from the bass, but it didn't drown out the trebble. The sound was all but perfect. "God Love Spiritus Audio," Marcus said over the sound of the music.

"It's hard though, when the rest of the family keeps telling me, 'your sister's doing X and your brother's doing that', but what can ya do? Marcus looked down at the 'Teg. "She's commin' along just fine. She may not be the fastest girl at the race, but she'll turn a head or two. I'm running mid tens now, thats good for me."

Marcus ran a hand over the black carbon fiber hood of his Integra. Underneath was one of the most advanced setups he could get. While the Acura was baged as a GS-R, it was, in technicality, an Integra Type R, with the B16 Spec R engine pushing out a stock 195 HP. However, whne he was done with it, the five speed 'rice rocket' put down a very respectable 305 HP, and that ws before the 50 HP shooter of Nitrous, which he had yet to use. If he did, he could probably put the car in the low tens, or maybe even a high nine.

"So how is the lady situation for you?" he asked Connor. Marcus had always had a bit of trouble with the female types, at least, finding one he liked.

IC (RP of the race):

Chloe watched as the white GT40 pulled up, and nodded, sliding into the drivers seat of the Skyline. She jossled the stick back and forth, waiting for the tree man to start the race.

She looked over at Jared, and winked, blowing a fake kiss, then turned back to look down the quarter of a mile stretch. A touch screen display on her dash read out the car's current conditions, and pressed her finger against one of the small 'buttons' giving her the turbo timer readout. She gunned the engine a few times, giving the twin turbos a chance to spool up. She loved the whine created by the fans spinning.

She watched as teh tree man walked up in front of the cars, and rose his hands over his head. She gunned the engine, this time holding it, letting the tach shoot into the redline, before letting up a second. She shifted into first.

OOC2: I gotta go meet with one of my profesors, so Raysia, go ahead and post a little pre race action, and I'll type up the race when I get back.

Now to rise in the summer morning...

The tree man looked at the four drivers, his hands held high above his head. He looked at Chloe, waitign for her signal. She looked down at the computer readout, seeing that both turbos were at full power, and gave him the thumbs up.

Walking through the master's gate...

He then eyed the driver of the yellow NSX. The driver, a young man who had won the NSX in a compition, looked down at a laptop screen. Both of his Zex Nitrous tanks were running at 100%, no leaks, and the computer would automatically fire the tanks when he hit 50,000 RPM in fifth gear.

Praises from Hell the human soul...

Getting the thumbs up from Jared and Sonny, the tree man stood on his toes, his arms straight above his head, standing tall. He spun so that he looked down the quarter mile strip, his back to the four racers. The sound of engines slamming against rev limiters, litteraly chomping at the bits to move, filled the air. The crowd gathered down at the end of the strip cheered, and many a bet was made among the non racers. Teh tree man dropped his arms, staright down.

Infinity in your hands...

The sound of the cars' tires screaming as traction was fought for filled the air, and the acrid tire smoke rose from the ground as the four cars screamed off the starting line. Jared's GT40 jumped up fast, taking a quick lead, with the nose of Chloe's Skyline inches from Jared's, and Dino a close third. The NSX crabbed late, and was off the line, a second behind the rest of the drivers.

Chloe grabbed second fast, then was quickly into third, and now slowly passing Jared. The inline six cylinder twin turboed engine screamed with power as it pulled the car forward. Chloe looked over at Jared and winked as she cought fourth, and sped off, taking a fast two length lead. She giggled as she punched into fifth, breaking away from the pack.

Jared swore under his breath. He grabbed third, then fourth, trying to catch up to Chloe. However, he grabbed fourth too soon, and the needled on the tach dropped hard as the RPMs lowered, and the speed bled off. The silver Dino shot past him, quickly cathing up to Chloe. He down shifted fast, bringing the revs back up, then was into a high fourth, but it wouldnt be enough.

The NSX fought hard, but the driver just couldnt get the speed up. He swore, realising he was looking at the posiblity of a ten second plus finish. As he punched into a low fifth, he hoped that the Nitrous system would hit hard. And it did. Suddenly, he went form a three car length distance from the GT40, to nosing on his tail.

At the finish line, Marcus watched the cars comming in fast. He adjusted his lean on his own car, and chuckled. "Told ya Chloe would be in first," he told another racer, whom had placed a substantial amount on Jared. As the blue Nissan shot across the line, Marcus held out his hand, and accepted the money he had been bet. He shoved it into his pocket, then checked a stop watch he had been using to time the race.

"Eight point seven six, thats a little slow for her," he said, then continued reading off times as the other three cars crossed the line.

Chloe let the speed bleed off as she slowed, and turned off the highway, shooting back towards the parking lot. The crowd followed.

Jared banged his forehead once on the steering wheel in frustration after reading the stopwatch's time confirming what he already knew.... that run absolutely sucked. He pulled into the parking lot and stopped the car in the middle, shutting it down, then starting it back up in diagnostic mode, intensely looking for anything that went wrong.

Chloe strolled over to Jared. "Its nothgin wrong with your car. You grabbed gears to early. You gotta calm down when shifting through. If you hit it to fast, you'll drop RPMs. You drop there, your gonna bleed off speed." She stuck her head in the car. "Hmmm...new car smell."

Conner watched as Jared tore away with the rest of the group to be smoked by Chloe. "Damn, bad luck," he said to Marcus with a wink. "Mid tens isn't bad at all.

"The lady situation? Which one?" he grinned. "Not too bad, not too bad at all. I'm always on the lookout for an enjoyable time, ya know? How about you? What's between you and that one I always see around you?"

"Nope, not bad at all," he said, watching Chloe walk over to Jared. More specifically, he watched Chloe. He snapped out of it, and turned back to Connor.

"What one is that? Oh you mean Marrisa? I dunno what the hell is up with her. She wont leave me alone," he said, laughing.

I grew up in a city with waaay too much surveilance... it was hard to get any racing in at all... this is new to me. I'm Jared, by the way," he said, extending his hand to her.

*there was an odd face in the crowd that night. tall, dark and predatory. it hovered between a slick layer of black hair, and a thin black tie. he was Arturo Drax, Grand-nephew of Alexander Drax, owner of the largest Super-G racing team in Kelvinisgrad. Arturo was here seeking new pilots. disinterest flitted across his face watching the quarters. super-G wasn't about how fast you could accelerate. he was watching for drivers who kept their cool under all conditions, and most importantly, the drivers who knew how to handle their vehicle on tortuous twisting courses.*

[Semi-OOC Background] Kelvini Super-G racing is an endurance event. unlike normal racing, however, the vehicle of choice is a purpose-built ground-effect craft. essentially an airplane designed to fly about 6' off the ground at 400+mph. Arturo is here hoping to find somebody willing to sign on with Drax Racing, and win.[/S-OOC B]
