Where are the dolphins that used to be in your nation's sea?

Answer: 90% of the world's dolphin population are in DarkSith waters.

With the development of the universal translator and its application to translating the dolphin language, curiosity and simple social willingness to talk to someone different have brought massive numbers of dolphins of different species into our waters.

Also, the fact that several dolphins have been sent to Mars, in a test for the state of the aquaformation of the martian ocean, has brought a clamor for emigration to these new waters.

DarkSith has had to devote resources to feed these unexpected tourists to avoid an ecocatastrophe in our national seas. And they don't seem intent to leave for now. With this worldwide displacement of dolphins into our waters, there are whole patches of sea totally devoid of predators. So we advise all nations to keep an eye for an uncontrolled growth of dolphins' natural preys. This seems to announce a worldwide fishing industry bonanza, but DarkSith asks that some percentage of these increased captures be sent here to feed the congregated dolphins.

OOC: Im not sure you can just claim that 90% are in your ocean but whatever.

IC: Seedling is more towards the middle of the landmass therefore no dolphins.

"Most interesting. We will, of course, help feed the dolphins. We have a concern , Sharks. Dolphins are about the only creature that kills sharks, do your scientists anticipate an increase in shark populations ? "

OOC: And I thought my dolphins only spoke spanish :)

We have plenty of Dolphins here.

your waters must be choked with dolphins. I feel sorry for them.

Of course, this warning doesn't apply to landlocked nations.

We are making this statement to avoid diplomatic consequences with the more ecologically-oriented nations, that may perceive this massive and unwanted movement as a threat to their own ecosystems.

We are trying to tell the dolphins to go back where they must be, but the shortest answer we have got till now has been translated as "Make me".
Despite this, it seems that some are already taking the hint and going back, but they seem to be replaced by new visitors. But their numbers seem to be going down. Slowly.

Also, we fear that sooner or later orcas (Killer whales) will make an appearance, as the translator works on them too. Fortunately, they are (slightly) more territorial and don't move as easily. But at least one artic orca has already been spotted.

Regarding the sharks, dolphins actually don't hunt them, they just defend their children and pregnant or birthing (blood in water) mothers from them. This displacement will have a very low impact on shark population.

Thank you for the information. We have dispatched several ships from our fishing fleet to bring fish to you. Do you need anything else ?

OOC:

My dolphin are right were they've always been, as claiming something on this order is godmoding.

Sorry.

If you want to RP trying to draw my dolphins away, feel free, but there is no reason for this information to be accurate.

Actually, no. But thanks for asking. This has been one of those cases of a research with unexpected consequences.

Oh, and they all want dolphin-portable translators. We are thinking of making this research public domain, so any nation can make their own and talk to the dolphins. But this is a matter for the high-ups to discuss.

(OOC: These events come from this other (informative) thread (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=81793&highlight=) (check initial date for your claims of godmodding). And no, this is not an RP to "kidnap" dolphins from any nation. It was intended to warn other nations of the consequences of the translator research. Eventually all dolphins will be back to their birth waters, most equipped with the translator.

If people can have and be elves, why not dolphins?)

EDIT: The OOC comment.

EDIT2: Added the missing link to the thread.

The Principality of Dolphin-Lovers is always pleased to see progress towards peaceful cooperation between Dolphins and Humanity.

While our scientists were at first greatly concerned by the dissapearance of so many of our dolphins, the return last week of one of the first schools to leave was reassuring, and your statement has now set all our minds at rest.

We are very interested in your translator technology, and would be willing to pay highly for it, should you decide not to make it openly available. We are also willing to help you with the miniaturisation, waterproofing etc. ogf your translator, and its adaption for dolphin use, should you wish it.
While we have made very little progress in translator technology, we are the manufacturors of some of the most advanced personal underwater technology in existence, at least on the civilian side. (personal steroes that work underwater with scuba gear, for example)

We hope that our dolphin populations return to us, but as sentient beings with an intelligence at least equal to our own, we will accept their choice should they stay in your waters or even emigrate to Mars.

We would offer to send aid to feed the dolphind in your waters, but it appears that the dolphins are taking care of it themselves. Our marine biologists have detected vast shouls of fish being 'herded' out of our waters, and towards yours, by groups consisting of several cooperating schools of dolphins, sometimes of different species.

Best Wishes

Alan Griffith, Prime Minister of the Principality of Dolphin-Lovers, Party Leader of the Dolphin-Friendly Liberal Alliance.

(If people can have and be elves, why not dolphins?)

I believe the issue is that none of the elf nations claim to have/be 90% of the elves in existence, or claim that almost everyone's elf population has moved over to see them......

Theres been no noticeable decrease in our local Dolphin population but thanks for letting us know. :)

Well, elves don't have to rely on one source to be understood by the rest of sentient beings. Besides, that is just temporary, as I said.

Also, to celebrate the first anniversary of NationStates, I am creating the following puppets:

Terran Dolphins
Terran Orcas
Martian Dolphins
Martian Orcas

So you might see where I am going with all this. It doesn't mean to encamp ALL dolphins or orcas of Earth, but it's a good generic, it was available, and I GOT FIRST! Nyah Nyah! (BTW, "Dolphins" was taken by someone else and it has a reserved tag, but I got "Orcas", even If I am not sure if I'll use it or the Terran one.)

You can make any additional dolphin state you might like. I am not claiming all dolphins. Hell, I am not claiming even 50% pop of any species of dolphin. Not any number for that matter, just enough to be a Nation. NS Earth is not RL Earth, here we could have dolphins in the billions. I don't claim exclusive rights on dolphins.

That would be godmodding, I agree. And unfair. Like Siri stating her elves are THE elves and noone else's are. Or Melky and the Orcs.

Right where they belong - in our seas. Along with the orcas and all of the other natural resources. :?
