Crude but effective..........
The technology of SteamEarth is somewhat backward yet highly advanced in some respect. This nation has stuck with steam power and calls its technology 'SteamTech'.
It has missiles which are fired out of giant gavity cannons which the aiming of is controlled by a mile square sized room containing the world's largest clockwork computer which is closest rival is the old armstards of the 1980s. Usually the chance of hitting the right target is somewhere around 36% or less.
The closest it was to tanks is what it calls Land Ironclads which basically are large metal tanks with guns and is powered by a steam engine which when hit by a shell explodes leaving a crater twice the size of the Land Ironclad. It does have a fast attack weapon which is an upside down bathtub on wheels stuffed with explosives of ones choice, which needs to be charged up with steam which is fired out the back to move it forwards at some 1/2 miles per hour. Experiments with nitro powered ones which are designed to reach 1mph haven't been 'quite' succesful as the thing tends to overturn and explode damaging the Land Ironclad.
Its air force is made up of battleblimps whose airbags have no protection, a few carefully aimed shots from a normal rifle or gatling gun can take them down in under five minutes. Small steam powered fighter planes provide support, some of which can be used as bombers by the pilot chucking out any explosive he has to hand.
This nation's top secert weapon other than blimp mines (both nuclear and high explosive) is a 'death ray' which is a giant telsa cannon which needs the best part of a week to charge up and is controlled by clockwork computers which take up to five hours to work 1+1. As a result this nation tries to delay war for a long as it can.

OOC: I *like* it. Very fun. Tesla cannon? Have you been reading Mortal Engines?
Very cool
Oh yes, our great nation is planning is own space project.
Using the foresaid gavity cannons we plan to fire a small craft at high speed into outer space, whilst hoping it doesn't break up or falls back down to earth again.
OOC: I *like* it. Very fun. Tesla cannon? Have you been reading Mortal Engines?
Nope, played a steampunk game and saw something about a telsa gun.

Ah. They seem to be common in steampunk, then. And why not, when they're so cool? :)
I love this! You should talk to out nockers. They make some stuff like this.
Lastest idea; STEAMWARP!
Using giant magnets, 50 steam engines, one nuclearsteam reactor and a giant generator the nation of SteamEarth is planning to experiment in steamwarp technology.
This technology will enable us to send an object or person on a one-way trip to god knows where, it will be useful or testing out any new weapons we may get. Researching and developing this technology is expected to take the best part of two decades.
UPDATE ON SPACE PROJECT!
The first test launch unfortunely went wrong, and we are currently missing a craft.
Just before the firing of one of our gavity cannons which was being used to launch the craft, a gremlin in the works threw the spanner, so to speak, into the gears of the aiming clockwork computer and so the gavity cannon dropped down just as it fired. The craft instead of going straight up, disappeared over the horizon. We have no way to talk to the person who happened to be inside.
The craft has stamped onto the side, the words; 'IF LOST PLEASE RETURN TO THE NATION OF STEAMEARTH'

If it ends up anywhere near our cities, it would have been blown into little pieces by our Patriot anti-missile system. The good news is we have not fired at anything lately. It might be buried in a sand dune though. We'll see if anyone finds a strange object or UFO-like object falling out of the sky.

Minister of Defense
Thank you very much, we'll be waiting with our blimps ready to collect it if anyone does find it.

A fast moving object falling out of the sky into the desert near Al Bashar was reported by local Arabs. Most stayed home in fear it was missile or space object. Tonight the 9th Crusader Army has sent a team to investigate this object as well as the Nuclear Radiation Cleanup team and WMD experts. The area around the object has been sealed off to the public until further notice.

After two days of investigation, the object was not a missile warhead, UFO or extra-terrestrial material. After decontamination and excavation, it was determined to be a space capsule of some sort. The order surface revealed the following writing after removal of burnt metal oxides in Victorian English gothic "LOST PLEASE RETURN TO THE NATION OF STEAMEARTH".
A message via telegraph (we had to borrow some museum equipment) was sent to Steam Earth informing them of their recovered craft. The craft is currently residing in the Antioch Military Air Base under guard.
On getting the message a fleet containing one supply with two battleblimps were sent to collect the craft.
The nation of SteamEarth is pending trade talks.

We await your battleblimps (blimps with big guns and rockets?) and will escort you to the Antioch Military Air Base. Please telegraph (keeps an old codger employed) us the ETA as we don't like unknown aircraft popping up unexpectly. Our F16 fighter jets will guide to the base.
Cheers
Our battleblimps are basically flying warships. The supply blimp has a large rig and crane for the carrying of military equipment.
We expect they should enter your airspace in around 5 hours.
Now lets get down to business, we are very interested in setting up a trade route between our two nations, we have a large coalfield and other resources which you might find useful. So what do you say?
Jeruselem

We are happy to trade. He have plenty of oil/petroleum, Uranium, sand (if you call it a resource), gold, silver and copper. We lack iron, coal, and wood.
We have nuclear reactors, but use coal in more remote areas where our army have trouble defending the reactors.
NOTE - Our peoples are very religious, but kinda liberal.
Ok we can supply with coal, iron and wood.
We can use Uranium for our nuclear steam works.
The first fleet of supply blimps should arrive in the next 19 hours, please note there will be at least three battleblimp mainly because we have 'slight' problems with air pirates.

OOC: Hmmm... provide modern technology and make it so they are safer from attack.... destroy one of the only original concepts of NS... Well, I hope the people like steam.

ooc: we are interested in helping out as well. What supplies do you need? Migrant workers? We have political prisoners that want freedom... you must have a need for cheap labour.

No problems. Oh yes, we supply Uranium on condition is not to be used for producing nuclear weapons unless you are a trusted military ally. In this case, this should be no issue. All Uranium is shipped in lead containers with a very thick casing.
For a cost, we can provide safe escort over some nations (allies) with our aircraft or track your progress with our satellites.

We are trading materials not tech
I would not work in nuclear steams works, but helped out SteamEarth of his original idea.
Time to sleep now ...
we are only trading resources, nothing more. ;)

I was debating whether I should give modern tech, I realise you are just doing materials.
STEAMWARP UPDATE!
In a test run of our steamwarp prototype, we managed to send one of our soldiers one-way through a warp gate into another plane of existence. However the 'locals' weren't THAT friendly as our soldier's last screams reported.
We are not considering the craetion of a larger warpgate to enable two-way travel and also to allow us to send an attack fleet made up of our Land Ironclads through to cliam this new plane of existence. We are offering to share either this technology or a piece of whatever we happen to find on the other side.
TESTING OF GRAVITY CANNONS WARNING!
After months of extensive maintence and repair we are now ready to test fire our gravity cannons with blanks ie bomb size ball of metal. Please do whatever you think is neccercy in case of something going wrong.
The offer for we made with our steamwarp project is all for FREE!

OOC: *Chuckels* cool idea..
Oh and here have a look at http://www.steam-trek.com/
((OOC: Brilliant idea, I've always loved the Jules Vernesk stories, and I'm honestly suprised no one has created a steam punk world beforehand. Kudos))
The nation of Taka is. . . interested in your primative yet effective teqniques. We would fund you however when attempting to access your computer networks we discovered that you suffer from a syndrome we call "Ubber Lag". No matter, we are willing to assist your project as it ammuses the Prince greatly, simply let us know how much you need and we will see what types of materials we can provide for a reasonable fee.

We thank you for your assistance, we'll send you a message when we've figured out what we need.
BTW we are wondering how you accessed our 'computer network' since all our computers are clockwork and are connected via telegraph lines, 'hacking' them would require a 'tapper'.
Takian hackers are amoung the best in the universe, and our Information Defence and Warfare department is known for being able to hack anything, given enough time. Short of having a computer in a room without any shape or form of outside connection it can be accessed, though the Artificial Sentience program was greatly frustrated, making several derogative comments about your mainframes, a toaster, and various places both could be inserted.

SteamEarth, you lost a BattleBlimp? We found an oversized blimp crashed into the side of one of our hills. No survivors were found. We suspect an RPG attack on it.
I suppose a joint investigation is called for.
You'll shortly be conntacted by the War Office of SteamEarth, in the meantime we'll put more battleblimps on patrol duties.

The area around the destroyed blimp has been sealed off. A discarded Russian RPG shell was found about 500 metres away. Our troops await your investigators. Unfortunately local terrorists can get these RPGs from our neighbours too easily.
Our people shall be arriving by blimp withinn the hour.
