how are you going to get the orbit of this par matching up with the orbits of the other parts. And do you propose you can orbit say...80% of a ring? It would have to be moving very fast, it would orbit around its centre of mass, causing it to collide wih the planet. But I'm sure you know that.

And yes, I know it would have to be moving very fast, it's only 500km off the planet's surface... should I make that bigger? maybe 5000km off the planet's surface?

the moon is 384,000 km out so you'd probably want a minimum of 10,000 km. 500 km is in the ionosphere, you'd get friction there. Even at 10,000 km it would probably crash. The best idea is probably to set up about 30 or so geostationary defense bases on a synchronous orbit (thank you Fasta Benj).

Satelites are probably the best idea I think, but do what you like really, you are claiming to be several thousand years further in the future than me. My totally secret space fleet consists of a few 'suicide star destroyers' which is basically a big spike with a pilot and a rocket motor and no brakes....and the Sahifnik satelite, which is packed with modified naval mines.

I've got some leftover plans for defense stations. They were scrapped because the majority of the LRR population is nomadic. The largest portion of the LRR population to ever live in a static location is 300 million people.

But anyhows....here it is:

Stats:

It can build ships up to 600meters in length internally, can hold outrageous amounts of defense fighters (http://screens.relicnews.com/homeworld/images/Taiidan_Defender_001.jpg), it can hold about 6,000 people, and they are relatively easy to build.

Armerment:

20x Anti cap-ship flak turrets
40x Heavy Plasma Cannons
10x Plasma Seige Cannons
100x Anti-fighter Flak turrets

(Stats for the defense fighters:

3x Gimbal mounted railguns
2x Crewmen

It is very nimble and compact.)

I saw it. You've got a good 300 of my cap ships and frigates to help you out. I'll start some of the old starchaser bases back up.

All over the galaxy, small frigates can be seen pulling up to the huge black hulks of the Starchaser bases, long abandoned. It will take several days to get them active, plus a few weeks of cleaning and repair to make them 100% operational. (There are four starchaser bases.)
