OOC: Well, I’m a billion. Finally. w00t! I would like to thank to following people:

Novus de Italia: What can I say about my oldest, dearest ally? How about the fact that we grew up together, and are only hours apart in age difference? That we found each other after only a day or so of life on NS? Novus, I salute you. We have known each other since we where both newbies, and I hope that we are still together in 6 months to celebrate our 2 billion mark.

Elara: Former enemy when we where newbies. Now the best of allies. While both of us are no longer in the APTO, it is what made us friends. You and I are also only hours apart. Congrats on turning one billion a day before me, old man :p .

New Genoa: You took me in when I was out of allies, once the former Alliance of Smaller Nations disintegrated. While I am no longer with you all in the APTO, I still wish to have my thanks known.

Slaglands: We still need to finish our Cola War :p .

Liberty Fighters: While we are no longer together in the APTO, I still wish you the best of luck on your future pursuits on NS.

Resi Corp.: Thank you for taking me in when I left the APTO

Never Setting Sun, Monkey States: I also wish you the best of luck. And happy one billion to you as well.

Zoir: Same to you, good luck

Crimmond, The Damned Peoples: Thank you for being kind to me. I know I did not deserve it at times, but thank you.

Rukemia: Thank you for being cannon fodder :p .

Melkor, Tremalkier: Go jump off the side of a cliff.

AONNN LIVE:
With the birth of AO’s one billionth citizen, and our withdrawal from the APTO, Senator Orion has decided to make some changes to AO. We go to Orion’s speech, already in progress:

"We shall be updating our Military. Our military shall be as follows:
10 Land Divisions
Each Division includes:

1,000,000 Orcalic Hoplite Troops
1,000,000 Centaur Troops
500 Chariot Tanks
200 Hyperon Mechs
200 Zeus Mechs

10 Space Fleets
Each Fleet includes:

1 Titan Battle Ship (50 Wings of Obelisk fighters) (25 Scarab Shuttles)
10 Pyramid Cruisers (25 wings of Obelisk fighters) (10 Scarab Shuttles)
25 Barracuda Scout Ships (5 Wings of Obelisk fighters)

That’s right, 20 million people. We shall NOT be threatened. We may be low on allies right now, but that just means we will fight harder if attacked. We are making our presence known in this universe. We are stepping up in our new spot as a major power. Let this be known to you Terrens, Elves, and other races of NS: The Atlantians are back. We are at full strength, and ready for war. If anyone takes this threat lightly, they will feel the pain of their mistake. We shall also find new allies. The Atlantian Federation/Empire shall stand for all time, and no one will topple it ever again. We, the Atlantian people, will stand forever, and anyone who stands in our way will be crushed."

That was Orion. It seems that he has big things in store for AO. We now return you to your regular schedule.

OOC: I do believe 20 million combat troops is a bit more than you can afford. You see, a US mechanized infantry division costs about $1.7 billion each year or so. It either has 10 or 18 thousand personnel total, of which only a fraction are combat troops.

You do the math... even if they're less skilled/trained/equipped than US troops, they wouldnt have much if any support, and there's no way you could then afford your space ships. Let alone things like air or naval forces, or you know, logistics. And if you ever had a war, those 20 million troops would kill your whole budget within about a month.

Basically, too much without some sort of wankage.

OOC: No mention of poor old Mindset? No-one loves me! It's because I was pacifist, right?! DAMN YOU IMPERIALIST SCUM TO HELL! ARHHHHHHGH.

Congrats.

Jumla, Prime of The Empire, speaks with her advisor of foreign relations.

"Yet another pitiful nation reaches a billion in worthless life; no matter. Soon we shall rid this universe of life not fit to breed on what is rightfully Mindsettian soil."

Her hands coil around the armrests of the large, black leather chair she resides in.

"Begone! I require rest: it is almost time to begin our conquest and cleanse these stars of filth."

Santa Barbara:

1. You do realize that the US does not have a billion people living in it.
2. It is only 2% of my population. Perfectly resanable.
3. The US is not Socialist. While they are still powerful, let's look at russia. When they where communests, they could afford a large military. Once they became capitalist, they weakened. The US is powerful because they have more people, more recorces, and a more comfterbul climite.
3 1/2: I have a powerhouse economy. Plus with my store front, I can afford these things.
But since you are complaining SO much, I will lower it to 10 million troops. 1% of my pop.

As for my space fleet:
1. Please look at my store. My ships are not huge monoliths. They (except for the Capital ships) are not that big.
2: I did not say I would have them right this moment. It takes time to build ships, and in due time, I will have them.
3: We have uncovered many reble ships from the civil war a month back (RT).

of coarse, I should expect this sort of intolerince from you "Elitist" Jan. and Feb. nations.

Mindset: Sorry I forgot you. There was just so many people I had to remember. Best of luck on your nation in the future. *slowly takes out gun for defence, marks down Mindset as a possible target*

1. The US population has little to do with the cost of its units.
2. 2% of your population as *combatants* is not that reasonable. Maybe in the entire military.
3. OK, as long as you can admit that those millions of troops will be the same general quality of Russian troops, as far as training, equipment, when compared to more Western style armies.
3.5 There's a thread around here where storefront sales do not equal huge budgets. And, a Powerhouse economy in this game isn't that good, its about the same level as the US economy, and the US couldnt afford huge proportions of troops either, at least not without serious cutbacks or conscription or other sacrifice in quality.

It has nothing to do with elitism. Its not like all January or February nations care about realism anymore than any other NS player, actually it kinda seems like players care less and less as time goes on. But if a January nation were to example, try to claim it had, say, 35 million combat troops, I'd go criticizing them too.

oh, sorry, I ment a "Frightning" economy. Sorry for the mess up. And a 2% military Is reasonable. anywhere up to 2.5% IS reasonable. And if your at war, it can be bumped up to 5% Besides, If you red my post, I've cut it in half. And it's not going any lower. Besides, It's not like they are "standing" right now, they have normal lives, and are only called in for war. This is just showing you what I am capable of (in other words, my hardware). I'm not constently feeding millions of people. Hell, if that was the case, I'd be dead after a month of feeding 1 million.

anyway, the Russens in WW1 may have not have had a good military, but later one it was comparible to the Amarican armies (and larger). Plus, *chuckles* I have a good climite, lot's of reasorces, and lot's of man power. More then Russia.
That and I am not over crowded like China, as I own the entire Pleiades Cluster. So.....about 100 million people on each planet. I am probably in a better position geographicly then most nations.

Also, I forgot to add something about my fleet: We don't have FTL travle. We use Jump Nodes. Thus getting rid of engien costs.

All in all, I can have theis 10 million troops because of location, location, and location. Oh, and I guess government fits in their somewhere.

"No."
"Why?"
"Because too many already have. We can too, right now even! You just need to hack the CGIs."
"We can't."
"Why not?"
"Because we do not know how to."
"Damn it, those people who said we needed more funding in education were right. Train some hackers!"
