For about 600 years of my nations history we have been pacifist. Until now, since we have elected a new Prime - the ultimate head of state - who believes in power and territory over human lives.

Now, in my nations history we have had a military budget of 0.3% in peace, and 1.7% in war. This gave us about 750 billion a year to work with, and since we have relatively little military assets this suited us fine, and was mostly spent on research.

Now that the expansionist government is in place, I've got no valid idea of how high my military budget should go. I'm thinking 17% at times of war is good for an imperialist expansionist regime, but as I've not maintained an economy like that before I want some input on how high I should feasibly be able to go. Please bear in mind that The Mindset is a research orientated nation, and spends much money on that as well - mostly taken from the military budget. We do not wish that to suffer.

Thanks.

Well, 17% durring times of serious (nation threatening) war is well within realism (I think the US hit 20-25% durring WWII). Peacetime should be closer to 5-10% for realistic military oriented nations.

But as you know, NS is often not realistic. Even Wazzu maintains a 20% military budget in times of peace (and in the distant past, 25% in times of war).

IMO, you can have whatever % budget you want as long as you have a good IC reason for it...and potentially consequences (Wazzu has almost no healthcare, welfare, social security, other national retirement, or similar...and other problems).

Hope that helps.
