Secret Dealings with Quinntonia

12-11-2003, 05:58
RNN Report:

In an unusual move by the Raysian Defense Force, Five Mk II Sky Cleaners, from random locations in Raysia, dissappeared overnight.

Witnesses nearby say they heard the sounds of construction crews disassembling the machines in the middle of the night. Our analysts think the Government loaded them onto a train spotted en route for Ascension, the Military Capitol of Raysia.

More to come on this story as it develops.

A secret telegram to Quinntonian Dra-Pol

We have known your interest in the Sky Cleaners for some time now.

As a way of apologizing for pulling out of your war, we are prepared to send Five Mk II Sky Cleaners. They have been taken out of our reserves, and will be loaned to you until such time as you no longer need them, free of charge.

We are currently loading all Five onto 5 RT-1707-900 Air transports, which will be heavilly guarded by air support. We will also send training crews, transport trucks, and construction crews to help speed up the readying period.

All in all, we can arrive in QDP in 9 hours, and have the cannons installed in less than a week.

We will also supply you with an unlimited supply of the special Low-Yield Hydrogen Warheads. Just contact us if you need a reload.

Stats on the Sky Cleaner Mk II:
((This is 2010 tech level at max, just in case you were wondering.))

Basically it's a giant flak cannon, with hydrogen warheads. The barrel is about 200 feet long, and has a full firing arc. It cannot fire at anything below about 2000 feet for safety reasons, and has a range of about 500 miles. When the magnetic accellerators fire, the shell travels at roughly Mach 3.5, and detonates in the area of the target with a blast radius of 1200 feet, and completely destroys (or at least cripples) whatever is in the blast, whether it be a fighter, or a missile, or whatever happens to be in the air at that time. It is clean and radiation free, and basically looks like an energy explosion. The shells are propelled by electromagnetic rails in the cannon's barrel.

Tactics for using this weapon are similar to the Depth Charges of the sea. You must anticipate (hopefully with computer calculations) where to "lag shoot" in front of the object so that you can hit it.

These weapons are permanent placements. So we would suggest putting them in high places. We also suggest installing a radar jammer nearby to screw up lock ons, making it a harder target to hit.

You may purchase more for a heavilly discounted 9 Billion a piece.

We hope this will revive the relation we once had. These may be delivered upon your command.

Thank you.

(Yah. Probably not. We'll be watching when they come in though. At least we know they've "gone missing", and we've seen one used in Dra-pol before, as I recall.)

(Well, Raysia used to be here, of course.. I'm fairly sure I remember some sort of deployment of that weapon. [wracks brain (racks brain?)] Was it against someone attempting to send aid to Dra-pol?)

This is the first time we would be actually sending Pre-Assembled Sky Cleaners to a nation!)

You are cleared to bring them in, 45 billion has been wired to purchase additional units, this will be the first part of our new defense systems in Quinntonina Dra-pol.

Amen.

Almost immediately, 5 RT-1707s make their way to Quinn-Dra-Pol and land at the airfield.

They begin to unload their cargo onto waiting semi trucks and move them to wherever Quinntonia wants them. They spend the next week setting them up and training their operators without ammo.

It will be 6 months before the next 5 Sky Cleaners arrive.

(By which time the Drapoel airforce will have completed its receipt of 345 modern fighter aircraft. Bwahaha..and all that.
I see that the weapon has to be aimed into the path of a target on a predictable course (and am assuming Quinntonia wants them to guard against FROG attacks) and that the shell detonates in the predicted area of said target.. does this mean that the shell has to be set with some sort of fuse (or hi-tech equivalent) to ensure it does detonate in the right area, or does it (the shell) encompass some sort of sensor to make it detonate on target? That seems like a lot to put into a shell, but then I'm no expert.)

In Kanggye Secretary Hotan considered the reports handed to him by a Banat agent. It appeared that the Raysians were still involved in Dra-pol. Seemingly some sort of serious heavy artillery was being shipped into Hamhung. This was worrying. Was it artillery to break up advances against the city, or to disrupt forward areas of operation? It was said to be "very large". Perhaps it was extreme range artillery meant to threaten DaKhiem. The city had been bombarded twice before.

But what could Dra-pol do about it? The Quinntonians for now maintained local air superiority over Hamhung.. and ground attack capability was never the strong suit of the Drapoel air force. Over-running the city had been tried, and though Hotan believed it possible, it would be a costly operation. It would mean drawing still more forces east when the main threat may still be in Pyongyang. The bulk of the army would have to remain as presently stationed. Surrounding Pyongyang, defending Kanggye and DaKhiem, and training in the expansive north east.

The elements around Hamhung however would be strengthened. The well trodden trails in the area bustled again, this time primarily with artillery. FROG-7B launchers -tracked and wheeled- Daistallian 120mm assault gun-mortars, 150mm tracked howitzers, 75mm assault guns, towed versions of the 150 and 75mm weapons, and 115mm field guns converged on the area. They were joined by some of the State Arsenal's newest developments- Type-90D and Type-89D 122mm multiple launch rocket systems, and protective D-ZSU-47-2 mobile radar-sighted AAA and DRAR-1 truck mounted quadruple low-altitude SAM systems.

Hotan gambled on withdrawing what air assets were involved in training over and covering the north east for the purpose of protecting the latest artillery movements.
