An Announcement (ANH read, Imitora read)

12-11-2003, 01:07
Doned Radiuju, the brilliant creator of the Grand Junon Cannon, presses a button. "Test... yes, yes, it's working!" A silver metal begins to coat a beaker within a pressure chamber. "By God! I've done it!"

----

The wizened old man sits in his wheelchair behind a podium. "Good day, my colleagues. As you know, the powers expressed within the... late... Daezemani people--" A cry rises, "Down with Imitora!" "--Er, yes, I know the feeling, they did destroy some of the best science known to us-- The powers expressed were created by an alloy, known at its discovery as Psylocke's stone."

"I have been working for fifty years to recreate this alloy. And, I am proud to say..." Radiuju beams. "I have done it. Mister White?" A tall, white-haired man bows. "I found it appropriate to test this alloy on a descendant, many generations removed, of the peoples killed. Please demonstrate, Mister White."

The man concentrates, and an orange forms above his palm and drops into it.

"So you see, we have recreated this power. However... I am not sure, now, that this was the right thing to do. Such power could kill... could cause great harm to our world... Oh, what have I done..." He turns and wheels away, followed by his assistant.

Intruging. What exactly does this...substance do?

"It creates abilities unknown before to man. It was a major component of the soil of Daezeman."

OOC: I hope you dont forget that I ignore magic, and honestly, do you really want to be responsible for teh downfall of another nation?

IC:

Two of the New Empirian made Imitora Class assault boats made tehir way through the relativly calm seas. With them was the carrier Rear Admiral Jeffery Williams and four Virginia class attack boats. Standard light patroll fleet.

"Sir priority communication," a young ensign said, handing the carrier's captain a print out.

The man looked it over, several times. It detailed his group's mission, reasons, and plans. He ran the numbers through a computer...it worked well. "All hands," he said, picking up a microphone, "this is your captain speaking. We have jsut recieved word that the godless communists of Cortena have began movements on the Marche Islands. Our mission is to go to intercept the forces and protect the Islands from invasion. That is all."

The "Godless Communists of Cortena" was code for a military exercise with other Imitoran forces off the coast of Marche Islands. The Marchians wouldnt know that the exercises were exercises, it was really a show of force. The ships turned in formation, heading towards teh Marche Islands.

OOC2: It also better not be Hoot, I have plans for him...

(Assuming this is a press conference ;))

A man in a cheap suit and fedora (with the obligatory 'Press' tag sticking from his hat) stands up, waving a pen at the podium and clutching a notebook in his other hand.

"Sir, Henry Buckman, IanCorp Wire Services. So you're saying that, with this substance, you'll be able to recreate all the powers of the legendary Daezemani? If so, how will it be used? What effect will it have on your country's bid to join the New Highlands Alliance? Would this technology be shared with other members of the Alliance?"
12-11-2003, 05:33
"It would be possible. I don't know. I don't know. I am not sure I should have done this."

---
Out in the bay, the control tower sights Imitoran military ships approaching. "Oh, f*ck me..." As they enter the bay, the massive cannon swings to face the flagship, and a red glow is seen within the barrel. "Imitoran ships, you have been deemed a threat to this country. Please leave before we are forced to fire."
Imitora
12-11-2003, 05:39
The captain of the carrier laughed, as he picked up a phone giving him open communications with he Marche Isalnd gun control. "You give yourself to much credit. GPS readouts shwo we are 20km from your coast, and technically, your only allowed 15km. Stand down, or our exercise will no longer be an exercise." He put down the phone, and went back to work, plannign the fisrt part of the exercise with the captian of the President Ormsby, a Virgina calss attack sub, and flag ship of the President Ormsby expaditionery group.

A young woman stand up next, "Jessica Smith, Network News 54 science desk. There are reports that this 'creation' was not in fact lost. A Dr. Devon Niven of Celeborne had rediscovered this material in the past. So, then, why are you holding a press conference?

"Hasn't this material been proven to be deadly above a certain concentration?"
12-11-2003, 05:49
"I had not heard of his work. I have done this independently. Yes, unfortunately, if taken directly it kills."

"Come to heading two six zero, open tubes one and two. Firing solution?" Captain Langton ordered, his men tense. The sub had picked up a track on one of the enemy ships, and was searching, not wanting to loose this point was Langton's main goal. An arsenal ship may not gain as much as a carrier, but it'll get them a good lead.

"Solution sir, we are ready to fire."

"Right, fi..." before he could finish, the klaxon mounted in the sub, a specialized radar operated one, went off. They had been hit.

Seconds later, another young ensign spoke. "Sir, Captain DiTomiso, from the 'Liz sir."

"Put him on," Langton said, sighing.

"Capt. L, you gave us a good hunt, but you should know better than to leave your tail open like that. Thats what, 20 points for us?

"You bastard. Come up behind us, hid in our sonar pocket? How?"

"Hahahaha ohhhhhhhh. A good magician never reveals his tricks, better luck next time, Captain."

Langton laughed. "Good hunting DT," Langton replied. He hung up the phone, and looked around. "XO, current position?"

"Exactly 15 nautical miles from the Marchian coast. South, Heading one three nine. Orders sir?"

"You know the drill. Emergency blow and fly the red smoke. And have it recorded that next in port, we buy the rounds for Duchess Elizabeth's crew."

"Aye sir."
____

"We should send word to the Marchians, let them know that we are shootin at each other off their coast. Keep them from opening fire on one of our carriers." The Civil Representative of the Imitoran Navy looked at Oliver, not wantign to have to tell the IMI investors that money was gonna have to be diverted from the FCS project to build a new carrier.

"Dont worry about it James. We'll get to it. Your boats wont be sunk. And we clearly made sure our captians know they wont be getting any closer than 15 miles. We've done stuff like this before, we know the drill. Take it easy," Oliver finished, sipping some more coffee.

"To follow that up, what were your ethical concerns regarding the advancement of study into a dangerous substance like this? What protocols did you follow in testing this on human beings?" Smith asked.

12-11-2003, 07:25
Mice with the powers of the Daezemani? I'd like to see that!

"Now, sir, I'm sure that there are a lot of, ah, less principled nations out there, the leaders of which would probably love to get their hands on this technology. How do you propose to contain this 'psylocke'?"
Larkinia
12-11-2003, 07:26
"But you still haven't answered the first question. Did you consider the ethics of this research? What its effect on your people would be?

"And what was the basis for this research?"

Oliver banged out a quick notice, sending it to teh Deazemani governmnet, stating that were no worries, just some war games going on, and the chances of the coast being cruise missles were slim. However, there were more important things he worried about. More specifically, what information he would be getting out of his 'agent', a New Empirian he had hired off to go to the confrence, and picke up what he could.

RE:Psylocke

Sirs,
It is with great regreat that we must inform you that the formula for Psylocke is the sole property of NEU. We understand the expense that you have gone to , both in time and money, to the development of Psylocke. We must insist that you desist with the development of this chemical. If you wish to obtain it we are more than willing to offer you a reasonable price for a supply.

Thank you,

"Hmm, my goodness. Life's work, shot down... I must say, good sirs, when did you begin to work on this chemical? Where did you find the formula?"
13-11-2003, 03:30
"As to the use of this chemical... Quite simply, I wanted to see if it could be done. I watched the island die from a ship very close to the shore... I was but ten, on a ship filled with Daezemani. I suppose I wanted to see if that ancient civilisation could be brought back... I know now that it could not. The mice are dead... and I'm afraid I will be, soon, as well."

"I 'pose so. I think we should just keep all naval activities to a minimum at the moment, with the war wih Japann heating up, there is too much at stake."

"To watch science like that die... well. I don't like Imitora, let's just say... I think that their actions were unwarranted and, quite simply, as I am always a frank man, vile. Daezeman was home to some of the greatest science known to man... I suppose I wanted to be like them.

I shall destroy the alloy I have now. I do not want it to end up in the hands of such evils as Japann or Melkor... but at the same time, I do not want it to end uo in the hands of even the better of us, like Iansisle or Larkinia."

Radiuju wheezingly laughs. "I have done some foolish things, of course... but whether this was one of them is simply a historian's gamble."

"Red smoke on the port, looks like another 20 for us, Captain," a young lieutenant said, looking through a large pair of binoculars. The thump and scream of an F/A-18H Yellow Jacket going from zero to 250 in under two seconds punctuated the air.

The captain barked a few orders out to some ensigns, and watch another fighter shoot off the deck. "Lt. Young, how far do you think we could push this 15 mile barrier?" Then lieutenant gave him a confused look. The captain looked down at a chart, reading the last known posistion of one of the Imitora class arsenal ship on the opposing team, then at his current position. "Course adjustment, two one degrees west, quarter speed."
______

The note sent to the Marchian government was curt and to the point. As you may know, we have ships off your coast. They are participating war games. Tehy are in international waters, and well within their rights.

OOC: Yeah, but the orange appearing was the whole point of the press conference, or did I miss something? The complaints about Imitora where extra color to the announcement, not the main point. And they were expressed by private people, not by the government.

Anyway: no magic -> no Psylocke -> no orange -> no press conference -> no Imitoran reaction to the press conference. Also not an undercover one.

OOC: Well I thought the main deal behind the press conference was just to announce the creation of Psylocke, and that the orange, while those who don't ignore magic can rack it up to magic, those who don't can still see it happen but assume it's a parlor trick that some PR flack thought up.
