Tour in Pilon (Open Space RP)
OK this is a RP I am starting that involves those who wish to come and see Pilon and some of the Genetic Creations we have made and also get to see a few other surprises along the way as well.
I don't want anyone coming with plans of Terrorism, Assassination, Sabotage, Espionage, or other forms of destructive nonsense that will ruin the RP. Anyone who wants to come is welcome to as long as they abide by these rules.
Rp your arrival and you'll be there.

5 kilometers from Pioneese airspace, a Tarran 'Gladrial' class 2 man runabout slows to a holding speed, its sole occupant Tain Cairnmacha, too nervous to make a live brodcast, hands shaking, on his third attempt, sends a prerecorded brodcast into Pilon.
This is the tarran transport runabout Atha-clath requesting landing permissions, I am Tain Cairnmacha, speeker for Sciences in the High Council the Third Wittan of Cairn Tarra during the absence of my coliegue and mentor an tuasal Holtzmann-Wisewood. The Lerned council of sciences has dispatched me to observe the grand and impressive sciences in Pilon further to your kind invite. may i have permission to land?
Tain mooves the ship into a holding arc awaiting confermation from Pilon
"Confirmed Tarran vessel, you may enter the primary loading bay of New Terra, proceed beneath the water and come to the front of the Arcology and you will see the entrance. Welcome to Pilon!"

Dr. Outov sat in the small shuttle as it made a lazy trail toward Pilon Territory. The oldest and wisest scientist in the Republic never cared much for leaving his home... but to visit Pilon... it was worth an exception.
As said Dr. Outov was an old man. His hair was balding, and it made sort of a crown around the side of his head. He wore a small mustache that was closely cut. His face was slightly weathered, but due to him spending most of his time in a lab, it was far from ugly. He wore his usual dress uniform, black pants and a black shirt with his lab coat draped over it all.
He looked out of the small window and sighed as he eyed Pilon territory. It was beautiful, theres no mistaking that, but something about about it made his mind a little jittery. Thankfully another was accompanying, a strong willed man by the name of Beowulf. He captained the Star Dreadnought, Hrunting, which was now in Geo-synchronous orbit over Pilon.
"So tell me Captain Beowulf, what made you want to come along on a boring research mission like this?" Dr. Outov's voice was light and calm, but not altogether weak.
Beowulf took hold if his small glass of wine and took a sip. He splashed the spirits around in his mouth for a second before swallowing. "Well Doctor," He said with a chuckle, "I thought it would become even more tiresome aboard the Hrunting, watching the same patch of land for hours on end. I figured I could give my legs a good stretch, and take in some unfamaliar surroundings."
Dr. Outov nodded to his comrade, and leaned back into his chair as the shuttle made final preperations for landing.

Tain looks worried for a moment. he rubs his hand across his forehead, straining to remember somthing... finally he kees a string of commands into the NIN...
20 foot above the water, the sails of the small ship fold up neetly into storage compartments, landing struts extend, and then the little ship drops like a stone onto the sea, it bobs there for a moment or two and an simple electrically driven prop extends form the uderside of the ship, Straining agenst the bouiency of the vessal it eventually drags it underwater, towards the mouth of the archology.
[ooc: all yours, i dont know weather you want me to rp all of this in that much deatail, it tends to piss some people off... but hes all yours for the moment]

IC: The ship is guided into the massive loading bay. The massive bay dwarfs the craft as its sent to the parking spot. Waiting for the Tarrans is a Pilonese Diplomatic Delegation. They wait outside the craft the the occupants to leave the craft.

IC: Tarn drummed his fingers on the control panel in agitation as the aging Albion 'Craic'-class diplomatic vessel cruised into Pilon Territory. After Ambassador MacCool had fallen ill, he had barely had time to snatch his belongings from his hab dome before being bundled onto the ship by the InterPlanetary Minister and set on a course towards Sisgardia. The datacube on Pilon had occupied most of the journey, and his last few moments had been spent in cleaning his uniform and polishing the twin silver leaves of his Assistant Ambassador rank. He was uncomfortably aware that the standing of his colony rested on how he acted and what he said whilst in Pilon Territory - Albion was a new colony and had little interplanetary experience or standing. He took a deep breath and switched on the commsystem. It crackled and spat into life as the aging transmitter array swivelled to point toward Sisgardia. "Sisgardia Control, do you read? This is Albion Assistant Ambassador Tarn McCray aboard the 'Cuchulain', requesting permission to land. Do you read?"

Tain follows Elwyn down the corradore to the Holding center, he, or for that matter any Tarran had seen an elf, he staired at the rear of his head facinated, awestruck,
shortly they arrive in the holding center, once Elwyn left, Tain headed for the small buffet, he haddent eten since breakfest yesterday, and he had never had forign food either.
he seamed quite pleased with himself
Elwyn smiled at the Tarran as he followed her to the Holding Center. Once they arrived she showed his the facilities. "This is our Nodelink Terminal, anything within the sum of Pilonese Knowledge that is unclassified is available to you from this terminal. Over there is our Food Synthesizer, it is capable of reproducing anything you desire that we have the Genetic Code for. Over there is the waste processor and disposal unit, over there is the Virtual Reality network, you are welcome to sample and games or scenarios you wish. If you need anything just ask."

Dr. Outov and Beowulf exit the transport with no armed guard. Beowulf does carry a sword at his side, the gold hilt glinting as he descends the steps of the shuttle. He pushes his flowing cape aside and extends a hand to the delegation that met the two Eurydians.
"Greetings, I am Beowulf, captain of the Hrunting. It is good to be here." His smile is broad and bright, almost as bright as his green eyes. He strokes his short, brown beard with his left hand, possibly contemplating more to say.
Dr. Outov buts in. "It certainly is a pleasure. I look forward to... seeing these new advancements your country has made." Again he is softspoken, but there is a hint of excitement in his voice.

IC: The DBH Paladin, a scout ship sent to find other civilizations for alliances, was one of a few of this new model. the smallest ship in the Burning Hate navy with the capability to go into atmospheres, and also quite well armed(OOC: Not intended for use in this RP, just info)for a ship it's size. There was a large influx of ships to a planet called Pilon, and the captain, Hugh Furlan, had heard rumors of advanced genetic engineering by the people of the planet, so he decided to take the ship down.
"You fool!, do you know what it will look if I arrive late?". Robert Carter's aide mumble some excuses at not telling him about the display that was going to be happening. "Full Speed to Pilon captain- I don't want to be late"

She smiles then replied. "Every Pilonese citizen is augmented in at least the most basic ways. We feel that a person should be improved as much as possible to better allow for their DNA to be passed on to the next generation. Tain is a pritty avrage Tarran male, he is human, but the lack of interaction with other cultures has given him a unique apperence, standing nearly 6'3 he is thin, his face is weighted towards Elfin and his long black hair, which reaches almost to his lower back is tied up with a brown leather thong, his clothing is quite simple, over a plain black trowsers and a brown top he wares a kind of white robe, at first glance it looks very simple, on second glance, a keen eye would pick out a beautifully embroidered pattern all over its serface, a very keen eye would spot that the pattern isnt so much embroidered, as actually part of the material.
he clasps his hands together, cradeling somthing which looks like a middle grownd between a digital watch and a natural leather strap
each time another dignatery entered the room Tain smiled..... and backed further into a corner... escaping from time to time to grab some more food from the synthisiser... he was gradully working his way through the pioneese diatery database, ordering small portions of everything, alphabetically.... he was currentally nearing the edge of the 'D' section.
He kept glancing quizically at the bode link, "reposotary of all pioneese knolege" sounded increasingly tempting. he wouldent know what to look for, besides his charter was to 'observe but avoid interaction with pioneese technology'... Looking back it, it was an unuasally 'open' brief from the council, perhapsm a signal that they would soon end there reign of zenaphobic uncorperation.

Tarn stood near the food dispenser in the corner of the room, observing the other dignitaries and ambassadors milling around, while his emotions bounced back and forth between self-importance and sheer terror. He knew that success here establishing good relations with the Pilonese would propel him up the hierarchy of power at home, maybe even make him Ambassador. MacCool was getting old and frail, and this hadn't been the first time he had fallen sick before an assignment. Tarn's ego wandered off, dreaming of a glittering career as Ambassador before the President of Albion begged him to take the post of InterPlanetary Minister, himself modestly accepting the honour.......Then came the re-entry to reality, and the realisation that despite the training in diplomacy and the rudimentary knowledge he had gleaned from the datacubes in his vessel's library, he really had very little idea exactly what he was supposed to do. Tarn swallowed nervously, and grabbed another handful of synth-pretzels.

Tarn's world of Albion was a relatively new colony, originally established to mine the huge deposits of rare metal ores that lay below the surface. The presence of these heavy metal (ooc: Slayer!) ores gave the planetoid a strong gravitational field, which over several generations had altered the physical form of its inhabitants. Tarn was considered fairly tall at home, but here he was easily a head shorter than most of the other dignitaries - another reason for his nervousness. He was stocky and well-muscled, and this being his first trip offworld (aside from routine training flights to Albion's moons) it had taken him several minutes to adjust to the lower gravity here - he still had a floating sensation in the pit of his stomach. He had short dark hair framing a strong, square face that currently held an expression like that of a boy waiting to butt in on his parents' conversation. His dress was simple and practical, with little ornamentation aside from the twin silver leaves denoting his rank - colonists having only arrived on Albion fifty years before, the newly-established government was still mainly concerned with meeting ore extraction targets rather than social reform or quality of life. Tarn wore a sleeveless blue shirt and a hastily-cleaned pair of black trousers, with shoes that had no visible lace or seam and moulded themselves to the shape of his foot. All the garments aside from the shoes were made from waste plastics drawn into thin strands and then woven into a thin, tough cloth. The shoes were one of his prized possessions - the technology was offworld, Tarn having won them in a 3D chess game with a pilot from an ore transport ship. These appeared every 200 days to take the extracted ore to refining plants in the next system. The sight was somewhat incongruous - a heavily muscled and work-hardened man wearing a look on his face like a child who's joined in an adult discussion and is trying to hide how utterly lost he is.
ooc: sorry if I'm going a little overboard on detail...as I said, I'm new to this. Great RP btw Pilon :)
OOC: Thank You Henleaze.
IC: The Elwyns stood together watching all of the delegates, they would wait justa little bit longer before starting the tour to make sure no one else was coming, latecomers could catch up. They ordered Spiced Beatle Bread and sat down at a table to eat it while they waited.

Tain walked over to the food dispenser to begin on 'Danzig Suprise' a dush he had been looking forward to since 'B', the food synthisiser got underway, stringing the proteens together to make the dish. He picked up the small dish of somwhat un-savoury smelling meet arrived a second later. Tain took a mouthful as he was walking back,
in a classic case of 'not looking where you are going' he bumped into Tarn. the bowl of Danzig Suprise fell to the flore with a smash, the goo rebownded creating a a plethora of nameless stanes on boath delagates' trowsers!
looking down tain froze as he saw the short man.... the look of sheer terror, like that of a man about to be shot in the face, crossed over Tains features, he paniced, and tried to appologise

absolutly frozen in terror he stands, awaiting his own vapourisation , if not the vapourisation of his entire race....

IC: Tarn sat at the table between the Burning Hate delegate and a large man who appeared to have - how quaint! - an actual sword across his back. He was still a little intimidated (the sword wasn't helping much) but the synthesised alco-spirits had begun to put him at his ease. His attention was diverted by the food being placed in front of him by a robo-servitor...some sort of wheat-based baked dough with.....were those LEGS in there? Unfortunately for Tarn, one of the first lessons in his ambassadorial training had been 'Never offend the natives', and the other delegates were chewing on the bread with apparent enjoyment. Tarn heaved a sigh and began to carefully chew around one of the beetles...

OOC: this happens before Tarn sits down to the Beetle Bread.
Tarn looked up at the taller man as the sauce began to soak through his trousers and his precious shoes. He expected to be swept aside, treated like the inexperienced newcomer he so obviously was....perhaps berated for being in the way. But instead, the taller delegate began to stammer an apology! Tarn was taken by surprise, and the delegate trailed off into silence. His mouth flapped once, twice, like a fish out of water, then snapped shut - he looked terrified. Tarn slowly realised that far from being seen as an inconvenient newcomer by these older delegates, he was actually something of an unknown commodity....and THAT gave him an advantage....interesting. Very interesting. Tarn gave the taller man a carefully polite nod, brushed the drying meat from his trousers, and returned to his place. The delegate looked shocked, then puzzled, then almost pathetically relieved before a look of suspicion rose on his face. What was this Albion ambassador doing? Any other delegate would have caused a huge scene. Perhaps this Tarn characater was trying to manipulate him. Or confuse him. Or... the delegate returned to his place, thinking furiously and keeping one wary eye on Tarn, who was eyeing the Spiced Beetle Bread in trepidation.

Beowulf and Outov took a seat at a small table. The Captain's green eyes surveyed the other guests while the scientist looked at a menu. Dr. Outov glanced up and saw Beowulf "undressing" a lady with his eyes.
"Ahem... Beowulf... we are in mixed company. We mustn't look bad in front of the other... nations."
Beowulf let out a hearty laugh and slapped his friend on the back. "Quite right doctor, forgive my... lack of chivalry."

Looking up from the fragments of antennae on his plate, queasy but triumphant, Tarn noticed the lingering looks his sword-wearing neighbour was directing towards a female figure (quite literally) that was seated across the table from him. The big man's comapnion whispered in his ear and he turned away, but Tarn was encouraged. As he saw more and more evidence of normal human behaviour among the delegates, he was losing his previous shyness. He was also enjoying directing long slow stares at the delegate who had bumped into him before, and watching the nervous reaction...

IC: Tarn successfully hid a grin and turned back to his meal as the tall delegate blanched and rocked back in his seat. After a long space journey with no entertainment cubes he had to get his kicks where he could. He glanced at the Elwyns clustered near the wall, and wondered at them. Albion had no cloning facilities and no elves - as such the Elwyns fascinated him. He wondered when they would be told what was to happen after the meal...now that his initial nervousness had evaporated he was eager to see the sights of Pilon.

The hosts, that person with the sword or try to rescue the tall delegate that had spilt some food on someone. Options, options.
Meanwhile Gervasi, the scienctist, started to download all available files on the computer to his palm computer. It would be very interesting looking at these in detail later.

Dr. Outov was still eyeing the menu when Beowulf gave him a slight tap on the shoulder. "Doctor, it appears someone wishes to speak with you." As Outov turned to greet the guest, Beowulf stood and after a little reluctance on Carters part, the two shook hands. "Hello Carter, I am Beowulf and this is my friend Dr. Outov. As to your question, I believe this is my friend's field of expertise." The large man chuckled and after a quick bow, he took his seat.
"Genetics... no... I've never really taken much interest in them. I tend to research technologies involving physics and quantum mechanics. I was hoping that this visit would... enlighten me as to the newest advances in the field of genetics. I think we Eurydians could benefit greatly from new genetic research." Dr. Outov offered the man a seat, and took one himself. It was getting rather hot in the main hall, and so he reluctantly removed his lab coat. "How about you Mr. Carter, do you have an interest in genetics?"
"Alas no, well offically no. Personally I am curious about it but I am part of the diplomatic core of Vandenhoogenban so as you can no doubt guess, Im here to represent my country. Prof. Col Gervasi (Carter motions over to the man downloading files from the computer) is the head of genetics at the Vandenhoogenberg National Research Centre, he is the one interested in it."
Gervasi, noticing Carter was talking about him came over to the couch.
"Dr Outov, Beowulf, this is Prof. Col Gervasi". Gervasi, like a boy in a candy shop eagerly greeted them.

The Elwyns walked down the hall and entered a transparent transport tube and waited for everyone to come in before they closed the doors.

Tarn gazed at the interior of the transport tube, marvelling at the technology on display. His homeworld used most of its resources to fund the ore mines, and the majority of technological advvances were weighted towards higher production and extraction rates. As such there was little room for luxury, and such high quality transports were reserved only for government buildings and complexes. He noticed Tain keeping well clear of him, and frowned slightly. It had started as a joke, but if the two nations were to establish good relations, he needed to make sure he got on well with the other envoys - it would not do to have Albion at a disadvantage on the interplanetary scene because of a simple joke....

Tain stood in the transport elavater, it was just like the ones back home, excep, it was made out of metal and circuts, everything was redundent and sell sufficent. Not necessaraly bad, just different. Tain was slightally happyer now the tour was commencing, he hadent been told there would be so much... diplomacy here. Though the mission brief had said that when questioned he could answer on behalf of the council. A powerful clause.. as at the moment he represented his entire nation...
and on that thought the nervousness returned...
After all of the delegates entered the transport tube the three Elwyns following the group entered and the doors slid shut behind them. The transport began to move then without any noticeable commands being given.
The tube led the group downwards into a large structure within the protective walls of the Arcology proper. Inside a mass of people and hovercraft zoomed from one point to another on their way to work, home, or recreation. The transport moved along the wall until it stopped in front of a building with the label "Outer Pilon Transport" on it. The Elwyn's motioned for the group to head inside...
Henleaze Avenue
17-11-2003, 19:30
Tarn dismounted from the transport looking around him and rapidly entering notes into the datacube he held. He was already thinking in terms of trade between Pilon and Albion - the smooth ride and speed of the transport tube could easily be adapted for use in the ore transport cars at home. He followed the Elwyns from the tube and towards the building. He had to fight not to stare....everyone in sight, aside from the other delegates, was naked. Naturally, this was somewhat disconcerting...
The Pilonese moved about on their buisness, some of them passed by the transport tube and raised their hands palms facing the delegates in Pilonese greeting as they passed by. They all smiled. Today was especially momentous as Pilon was ranked especially high in the most Beautiful Environment UN Ranking (428th).

Several of the hoverships that passed by seemed to be more living than mechanical. In addition many of the buildings seemed to be growing a carapace on them that was eating away at the origanal structure and replacing it with a living carapace. At about this time the Elwyns explained. "Recently our scientists have made great progress in the ultimate form of Bionic Technology, Organic Structures. We are in the process of converting all Pilonese assets to living structures, giving us much more control over their development and a means of self repair uncomparable to mechanical structures. We even have begun the process of converting our weapons to organic weaponry that naturally is produced by our new fleet. Some of the weapons grade technology we have begun is frightening, we plan to show it off to the world at the Tech Expo Sisgardia is hosting some time in the near future..."

As the group enters the building it is obvious the inside is far more massive than the outside made it seem. The building on the outside seemed to be a rather small building with maybe a few stories attached to it, but within it stretched out before them for a good Kilometer or so. Within the building is a massive field filled with ferns, mosses, and large stretches of open fields. The ground slants downward steeply toward a collection of suits and gear that seem to already have been laid out and prepared for them. A moving walkway leads toward them at a fast pace and a series of bubbles lay suspended at the top of the hill.
The Elwyns breath in the fresh air and look out across the fields.
"This is one of our favorite areas to come to sit and relax when not working." Several Pilonese citizens were walking or laying about reading books, or hooked up to Trivid display units or Virtual Entertainment systems.
They walked over to the bubbles and two of them passed through the outer area of the bubble into the middle. They then leaned forward and rode the bubbles down the hill. It seemed that whatever made the bubbles was double layered as the Elwyns stayed upright as the bubbles rolled down the hill. As they approached the bottom the bubbles slowed and stopped in front of the equipment. They then moved out of the bubbles and waited for the others. The other three Elwyns motioned for the other members to ride the bubbles down the hill. "This is one of our new transport systems, we're still trying it out, we hope to replace our maglev transports with personal grav-bubble systems within the next year."

Though he was used to the breathing apperattus after working on the Makers submerged in the kelp fields of the gulf of Ador, moast of the tarran divers, including himself did no use suits, training themselvs to adapt to the high pressure. tain was thankful for the ususual silence of underwaterness he felt relaxed when he was in water, it came from being brought up surrounded by it... he followed the leed Elywin and kept his mouth shut

The group swam downwards. Around them were large underwater plants, a plethora of fish and other aquatic life of all kinds, and other Organic Structures scattered around the floorbed, obviously outlying structures of various uses built by the Pilonese. The Elwyns headed for one of these structures though at a slow pace to give the others a chance to look at their surroundings.

Tain was reminded even more of the kelp fields in the Sea of Leaves back home, except this was much deeper, and therefore not as bright. it was quite frightening in a way, and another ood experience to add to his expanding collection. He made a mental note of the plant life this deep, noting the adaptations to the low light, hoping he remembered to tell teo when he returned

The group finally arrived at the building. They swam underneath it and a door opened for them and the group entered. The inside once again seemed much larger than the outside had made it appear.
The building was lit with a somber blue light though as the Elwyns all entered the building lit up. About them were displays, replicas, and even a hall with windows along the side revealing large rooms beyond.
"We've made it, this is Pilon's new Genetics Display Building, any questions before we begin the tour?"

Tarn raised a hand. The swim down had been interesting, but this was what he had come to see... Pilon's famous genetics work.
"Are recording devices permitted inside the building? I wish to take pictures of whatever displays you may have in there."
One of the Elwyns replied. "Yes we have already screened these displays, no classified information will be shown to you so you may record or remember or whatever you wish inside, we want to show these creations off to the world so we will not stop you."

Tain pulled off the diving suit, glad to be out of it.. the building was not too impressive, which reminded him of an old saying he had been taught "the greatest treasures are found in the moast humble shacks"... and if whet he had seen so far was anything to go by, the pioneese may have the upper hand in a few fields...
The Elwyns spoke then. "We must apologize to you for that breif swim through the darkness. Out light amplification system is still highly classified and we do not allow foreigners to view it though we do now acknowledge its existance. Perhaps in some future tour we will be allowed to show you its beauty. Poets and Artists in this country do not do it justice with words and pictures. Now, if you'll all come with us we will show you the first exhibit, our first genetic creation..."
The Elwyns began walking down the hall toward the first room.

Tain followed closely, regardless of what the other delegations were doing he wanted to be close enough to the Elwyns, he didn't want to miss any of the information, and they were quite pretty,
They came to the first display. In front of them was a tank of water with several creatures inside. The creatures had the body and face of a dolphin but also possessed hairy arms and legs. Several were out of the water at the top hanging from trees.
"This was Pilon's first real success with Genetic Splicing. We call it the Dolphin-Gorilla Hybrid or Dorilla. It had gone extinct for a while due to some unfortunate buisness practices but we have recently recreated the species though in small number and mostly use them to show off or to keep as superintelligent pets."
The Elwyns waited for questions from the others.

Tain couldn't help but smile at the strange creatures,
how did they operate in an ecosystem,
why??
why did they go extinct,
he bit his toung though, best not say to much, the Foreign nobility may think he was rude.
ooc: anyone else here, or is it just you and me?
ooc: I think we lost everyone else... oh well their loss.
ic: The Elwyns looked at Tain. "You seem to have some questions, please, ask, there is nothing you can say that will offend us."
CairnTarra
09-12-2003, 09:52
he looked uneasy, he wasn't worried about about offending pilon, from what he had learnt that would be a difficult task which would take a great deal of effort, he was more worried about offending the other delegates... but very well, surly one question wouldn't kill THAT many more of his people[/i]
“I a-assume they fun-functioned in the wild w-with the modifications .. wh-y tt-then did they g-go extinct?”
The Elwyns stopped smiling. "Its not something we're proud of, they went extinct because of anti-environmental policies the old regime of Pilon passed during its age of Imperialism. They began to hunt them for sport and even ate them, they were a delicacy. It was because of their popularity as a food that we bred our next species, the PiFish, as a replacement. Now however Pilon is proenvironment and we do not allow any harm to come to any species in our ecosystems. The lessons learned from the Gorilla Dolphin hybrid have been many and we have learned them well."

tain nodded... he studied the animal behind the screen, using the techniques Teo had taught him to try and best-guess its genetic structure not the most useful of creatures, but the arms probably gave it an extra edge in the ecosystem... he stood to one side to let the other delegates take a closer look at the creation.
he was sure pilon had more to offer then a obscure half breed ‘mad as a bucket of springs’ genetic experiment.... they had class 2 generating buildings... and those suit things... they were good...
he glanced round himself again,
The Elwyns led the group to the next window. Below them were several hundred small fish about the size of a human fist. They were blue and turquoise.
"These were our next creations, the PiFish. It was because of the popularity of the Dorilla that we decided to create this creature. It breeds at an astonishing rate, has no natural predators, and has all of the nutrients a human body needs to survive, plus they are enriched with vitamins. There are several species, designed for specific types of required diets. The fish has been an amazing success and is now one of the primary sources of food in our diets."

'Clever' Tain thought 'Very clever'
Cairn Tarra grew most of its food by plant orginisms, creating an animal with a fast breeding rate and sedimentary mineral suplimentation, was a compleetly different kettle of fish... this was why he enjoyed studying other peoples solutions. different perspectives, same efffect.. Teo would enjoy heering about theese pifish,
The Elwyns moved on to the next display.
Inside was a vast living area with multiple structures having been built inside. In the background were several strange looking creatures that definately were also derived from Dolphins though they had arms and legs as well.
"This is one of our proudest achievements. Following our creation of the PiFish we decided to develop an aquatic race that naturally lived in the water and could help us maintain the ecosystem we were setting up, by this time we had over 75,000 artifically created creatures of various types and purposes and the ecosystem was getting beyond our ability to easily control on our own, being land dwellers not water dwellers. We had two options, either create a new race to help us achieve our goal, or become an aquatic species ourselves. The answer finally came when we received some very interesting DNA samples from foreign nations, as Elves began to move into the country we made our decision and incorporated Elven DNA with the Dolphin DNA and created our underwater shepards. They are called Elphins by us and since their creation our ecosystem has grown even more fruitful. THey maintain it and take care of it, they even help us create new additions and help us to learn what is needed and what is safe to add.
The Elphins are a critical part of our society now and we value their contributions as much as they value our insights. These Elphins here have volunteered to move here to help explain them to other cultures as we usually don't allow foreign dignatories to interact with them."

Tain realised the creatures are sentient, he waves gingerly,
tarran convention stated that if you created a system too complex for you to understand and manage you should allow entropy to claim the weak parts of the system, these Elfins would never have been created in Tarra..
this whole ‘Elf’ thing was getting why out of hand, the Elywins were beautiful even if they were clones, and even these Elfins had a natural beauty about them, even though they were ground up ‘experiments’ they still looked totally natural, as if there place in the life-spirit was the same as that of a natural born animal...
he looked fascinated, and cast the occasional glance to the Elywins, comparing and contrasting features, desperately trying to make a guess at the genetic construction...
this would require a formal report when he got home
One of the Elphins responding to the wave swam up to the group. He pressed on the glass and passed through it.
The Elwyns smiled. "It is nice to see you again School Lord Dephius, these are our visiting officials from our various allies."
Dephius looked at each in turn finally stopping at Tarn. He made a series of Dolphin-like sounds and shortly afterward a voice synthesizer toned out "Welcome, it is a pleasure to meet all of you, we are glad to see landworlders so far within our homeland."

Tain smiled...
they have there own belief structure and society, incredible... sometimes he wished he was a sociologist so he could study this sort of occurrence, a sentient underwater creature....
and a percussive, ultrasonic language which has evolved completely Allen to much human reference
Tain caught the eye of one of the Elywins..
“would it be at all possible f-for m-me to procure some ex-examples of any poetry or-or literature c-composed by the elphins?... *in a quieter voice, nearly a mumble* our artists a-alwaise s-seek to view things from a-a different perspective”
The Elwyn's looked at Dephius. "I believe that question was meant to be directed at you. Please excuse our visitor he is unaccustomed to our manner of interaction." Dephius' reaction was hard to interpret but after a long while he responded. "No offense was taken by his remarks, we understand his unfamiliarity with our customs." He then turned to Tain. "We have no written language however many of our people's stories have been orally recorded in Pilon's archives and we give you permission to access these if you wish to sample some of the stories or take them with you."

Tain smiled like a cheshire cat, there was at least two major Theses in this for him if he sat down and finished his literature degree... or, he could give it to Chrios, he was lecturing now wasn't he? if he did good work on this he could get a set in the second Wittan with no problems, that would be a nice present for Imbolc...
he addressed Dephius. To excited about the prospects of further study to feel embassies at his faux pas.
“T-T...Thank y..you”
Dephius nodded slowly the passed through the wall and swam out to the rest of his people.
The Elwyns watched him for a while as he swam. "Shall we continue?"
They began walking further down the hall.

ooc: Sorry Christmas and all...
ic: They walked down the hall to the next window, within were a number of small Green snakelike creatures writhing around in a giant pool, it looks almost like a mass of worms.
"These are one of our more... aggresive creations, they are called Ivy Vipers. They are a plant organism that seeks out sources of food, which can be anything from fish to people."
The Elwyns looked up and a hole in the top of the chamber opened and several dozen PiFish dropped from the hole, the Ivy Vipers seemed to leap into the air and spread over the fish as they dropped and not even the bones were left by the time the creatures would have landed in the water.
"We are quite proud of these creatures, they keep our jungles safe from outsiders who do not know the proper Sonic Frequencies to keep the creatures at bay. They also help to balance out many of the Animal life in the jungles."

Ooc: bah! Never let real life get in the way of a good story :P
Tain looked shocked, a cruel species indeed, he was reminded the old tails of cairn na lea, in the early days of Tarran genetic experimentation, pioneering genetic scientists put modified strains of forest pray into the eco system, each time a little modification to keep them one step a head of the predators,
Never had they thought of augmenting the predators themselves, surly that was pointless?
Something else crossed Tain’s,
How could they be plants and retain that much motive ability, they couldn’t have a cell wall, and if they didn’t have a cell wall they couldn’t support large vacuoles and if they could digest meet surely they had to have large mitochondrion and golgi apparatus… and that was just on a cellular level… how could they succeed in transpiration when they weren’t anchored to a water source by roots…
Somewhere between his curiosity and the effects of the Pioneese relaxation drug he formed a question, well, a statement…
“surly they are just animals with Ea’janaa.. erm… chloroplast’s and some photosynthetic ability… a.. as far a… as I can see, there i.. is not much p..plant about them… w… what was the starting point for them?”
Tain realized he had engaged his mouth before activating his brain… his face went bright red…
The Elwyns smiled, "They are indeed plants, our starting point for them was the Venus fly trap though we have also taken a bit of Animal DNA and added it to the creature. They still possess Cell Walls, Chloroplasts, and all other aspects that make a plant a plant however they have been given the mobility of animals in addition to this. In an effort to make Pilonese Ecosystems more adaptive and powerful than native ecosystems we have upgraded almost all aspects of our ecosystem in order to make them thrive when exposed to an area that does not yet possess Pilonese Ecosystems. This is the main reason our ecosystem has spread so far beyond the Pilonese claimed territory on Mars and Sisgardia."

"w...would it be ok if i b..borrowed some electronmicrographs of that organism, i think t...they would make for an interesting study into hybridisation. And p....possibly one or two very ... interesting exam questions"
he smiled and made some more notes before continuing

"That is why we programmed a sensitivity to specific frequencies of Sonic Vibrations. We keep them in check by emitting the frequencies where we do not wish them to go and allow them to move freely throughout the rest of the ecosystem. We cannot allow any of our specimens to be taken out of their environment but we would be willing to share DNA samples or any other samples of a similar sort that you would require."

The Elwyns led the group down to the next window. Below them was another water takn but it was slightly different, the stones and plants within it were not the same as any seen so far though very similar.
"This is our Martian Exhibit. We have adapted all of our lifeforms to a martian ecosystem and they now populate our ecosystem there as well as here on Sisgardia, the only real differences between the two are their specializations are meant fro a Martian atmosphere and environment instead of a Terran atmosphere and environment and they are more adaptive as the terraforming process on Mars continues and they must be able to adapt with this constant change."

Tain studied the organisms quickly, he had long held a desire to study on mars, Teo had discussed the possibility of a FTR outpost there a few years ago, he had been reading up on the subject slowly ever since. Extraterrestrial life, its creation and matmence would be a lovely area to study in.
He leaned closer to get a better look at the organisms, and jumped slightly as his forehead came into contact with the glass wall of the enclosure.
The Elwyns spoke up. "We have a special offer to you Tain, as the others have had to leave and our people sufficiantly trust you and your people well enough we are willing to show you something that is truely unique.
Come, Come this way..."
The Elwyns moved on down the hall passing a number of room with various strange creatures within.

16-01-2004, 17:48
Tain was a mix of nerves and excitment... this was unexpected.. he glanced left and right into the rooms as they passed. There was a wonder of strange and obscure creachers there. He made all the notes he could and kept up with the Elwans as best he could.
They came to the end of the hall. To the left and right stretched a long passageway with many more halls similar to the one they had just gone down. The passageway stretched as far as could be seen both left and right of them. The Elwyn's explained that this facility held at least one of every single creation Pilon had ever made and the facility stretched for Kilometers in both directions.
The walked down to the left for a couple hallways then stopped in front of the wall they had been following on their right. One of them walked forward and placed her hand on the wall, the wall opened for them and the Elwyns motioned for Tain to follow.

Tain looked somewhat nervous... he had been told stories as a child about the evil dark lairs of the foreign people where they ate the corpses of the Tarran farming folk they had captured while they were hunting. this is the kind of picture he had held in his imagination.
he knew it wasn't all true but he was still nervous.
The Elwyns notice Tain's reluctance and smile warmly at him. "Don't be afraid. This is a special honor, we are going to show you something we have been working on recently that no non-Pilonese have seen."

tain smiled uneasely,
some of the Pioneese wonders already riveled the Tarran technoligical equivilents... if he had to report that another nation was ahead of Tarra, the result would be years worth of government funded work playing catchup...
and a blow to the already dinted moral of the people.
As Tain was led into the room the Elwyns seemed to be keeping the walls at bay. They seemed to want to close on Tain. Inside was a long white room that was completely featureless. The Elwyns led him down the hall and opened another wall in front of them.
Behind the wall was a great monstrosity and a massive room. The Elwyns' motioned for him to follow.

With no real frame of refrence Tain couldent really place what he saw through the dore, he followed the Elwin in front of him,
another question dawned on him about the Elywins but he laied it aside , focusing insteed on what lay ahead in the mammoth room
As Tain entered the room the wall closed behind him. Before him floating in the air was a large creature. It was almost 150 Meters long and half that wide. It was a mettalic color but the bloodvessels could be seen underneath. In addition the darker parts of the skin seemed to slowly shift across the surface.
"This is one of our new ships. It is capable of underwater, atmospheric, and space travel and combat. It generates its own power using a combination of Fusion and Solar Collectors. Its weapons are biological based which it naturally grows. Our biological weapons department had a hayday when they heard about our plans to equip it with some of their most advanced biological weapons. The best part is we don't even have to build new ships, our ships are capable of giving birth to new ships which then grow into adult ships capable of being used in our fleets."
The Elwyns watched Tain to see his reaction."

Tain was taken aback by the strange shape, he had to think back to Teo’s teachings to even begin to quantify the Function of some of the appendages, let alone there base genetic structure,
again the piloneese had demonstrated that there technology was equal and in some ways superior to the tarran cutting edge, but approached from a slightly different angle, tarran ships were built from subsystems, each alive or cleverly designed, communicating, but nothing so bold as a completely biological ship, the centralisation, the specialisation... the brain required to run such a thing.. It was smaller then the Triumvirate, but twice as impressive.
“.......i.....i......is it sentient?”
“w... what... i... is it... called?”
"Yes, it is Sentient and fully intergated into our Nodelink. Her name is Fafna."

"will she have a crue, i meen is it really necissary..."
tains mind was on a different tack now, sentient ships, crueless... one death insteed of hundreds....
better still, synaptic orginisms, with some modicome of remote control, no sentience,
a defence force withought putting one sentient being at risk...
his pencel flew across the page, in his mind the beginnings of a plan
"Though she is capable of operating without a crew we have found that the efficiancy of each vessel is markedly increased when they are staffed with a minimal crew.
Suddenly a general alarm sounded. Emergency speakers sounded "This is not a drill, this is an emergency... Melkorian attack on Martian colony... Backlash trasmissions through Nodelink rendering damage to all..." Then the message went silent. The Elwyns screamed and one by one fell unconcious, the ship also fell to the ground and the light in the room faded... All was quiet.

Terror took hold of tain, he froze. The room was now pitch black, even though it was of a huge size the air seemed to close in round him like a prison.
after a moment he fumbled around in his pocket...
small... yep....
round... yep...
squidgey.... ish....
he took the object, no bigger then a golf ball and let it drop on the floor. there was a ‘crack’ and a flash as the enzymes in the little bubble fluoresced, casting a blue light on the surroundings...
the bodies of the Elwins lay close, and in the distance he could just make out the bulk of the ship... he reached into his pocket again and took out another small device, examining it in the low light and making little alterations to half visible controls he set it down on the ground by the incandescent ball... he took a few paces away, another loud ‘crack’ sounded and the atmosphere took on the feeling of the air during a thunder storm,
a very quick series of polarised electromagnetic pulses...
if one were in charge of equipment capable of scanning for such things a pattern could be discerned and decoded
>GENERAL EMERGENCY <
>>unit 71822
>stranded at source of broadcast
>alive and unharmed
>in dangerous situation
>in foreign lands
>in possession of useful data
>SOS<
whether the message would get through the probably very well shielded chamber walls was one thing, whether it would reach Yagdrassil was another.
Tain checked the Elwins for pulses, and tried to bring them around.
OOC: I don't know if Tain has anything capable of receiving a responce to that SOS. In case he does he will receive his own message, it is bounced back by the walls... You're lucky the walls are unconcious.
IC: After examining the body it soon becomes obvious that the Elwyns are in a torpor. They are alive but unconcious like they are in a coma. They do not respond to his attempts at awakening...

Tain made a fleeting glance at the biological ship... he shook his head remembering an old Tarran proverb ‘The simplest solution is one which involves the fewest variables’ he turned round and made for the exit of the room.... there had to be something sentient still conscious in the facility.
There is no exit from the room. The wall is biological and opens itself to allow passage when asked to. As it is unconcious it will not do that...
Slowly the lights turned back on and life seemed to flow back into the room. One by one the Elwyns rose from the floor, looking quite dazed and sore. One of them saw Tain and walked toward him. "My apologies, it appears there has been a catastrophe on Mars. We have urgent things to take care, may we escort you from our facilities and back to your ship, I'm sure your government will be interested to learn of our capabilities as we will soon be asking much from them and our other Sisguardian Allies...
