The Zoir Warlords strike back: Return of the Zoir Pirates

Zoir
11-11-2003, 19:23
10 years After single warlords had gotten their forces crushed twice after several months of Piracy in the Sol system, the Zoir Warlords were ready to go at the rich space lanes of the Sol system. They would work together to bag even large convoys defended by small number of warships. It was riskly but they had no other means but piracy left to earn money after they had gotten crushed by the Imperium and they needed to regain their pride. In the darkness of space not far from the Sol several secret and hidden bases including several cloaked bases were estabished to operate from. The Zoir Warlords were almost ready, soon the unexpecting Sol system would see the return of the Zoir Pirates stronger and in greater numbers then ever.

Emperor Gernx was annoyed. The Warlords had escaped before he could bring down the wraith of the Imperium fully down on them and for the last 9 years he had had scout ships looking for them without sucess. He wanted to crush those blasted Pirate Warlords for all the trouble they had caused and their escape put him in a bad mood.

At the hidden bases the fleets gathered for the coming storm as the warlords planned in secret their battle plans and organized their ships into fleets.

Zoir Warlord(Pirates) Ships: These ships are built for one thing Piracy. They are fast, small and sleathly ships which are built to outrun what they can't fight; which is most space warships. They are aslo built to capture quicky Cargoships, strip them of their cargo and take off. To help with these these ships use a cloaking device as well as various devices for blocking communtations from their targets so they can't send out distress calls. However they are very lightly armored and have to depend mainly on their shields for protection.

Buut, considering how much other stuff there is in the system, a small mining station could propably go pretty much un-bothered.

Well, since the Sol system harbors LRR's third largest fleet yards, which hold something like 70 destroyers, 300 Patrol frigates and assault frigates, about 30,000 marines+ equipment, orbital cannons, and around 500 Trebuchet ominfighters, developed specially for both atmospheric and space use, you might have some trouble.

OCC: Well, yeah.

IC:

Above mars, a five-ship delta of Trebuchet omnifighters, used by the LRR Sol system task force exclusively, flys lazy circles around a conglomerate of freighters and flak frigates, which are bringing cargo to the two prefab space stations now in orbit, as well as the base itself, now with over 2,000 occupants.

Aboard one of the fighters, WMT-05, the crew has grown weary of the six hours of almost non-stop circling. The navigator, in the left seat, is singing Talking Heads songs, while the pilot has the cruise control on and is staring down through the clear floor panels below the front of the cockpit, at the martian surface. The traveling mothership looms in the background.

"You've sung that one, like, five times!"
"But its so good."
"Meh! Sing something else."
"Hows about some Bob Dylan?"
"Whatever."
"Hey! There's the Bajoni capital!"
"I see it too. And Mizar 3 should be coming up on the left."

Suddenly, the calm is broken by a message from control.

"WMT flight, set course for the asteroid belt. Some outpost has lost communications. We don't have a nationality yet, so approach with caution. Hyperspace platform L-2 should be ready for you."
"Roger that, control. We're heading there now."
"K, control. We're headed there. Want us to form, lead?"
"Your choice. 'S not necessary."
"We'll assume you mean everyone."

The flight soon reaches the hyperspace platform, and docks wth it. The platform itself is a simple frigate with the capacity to hold 10 fighters and/or 5 corvettes within its hyperspace waveform. It sets off, bound for the outpost. They expect to find a fried transmitter, perhaps a victim of training cadets, or a careless resourcer pilot. The will be much surprised.

Else where a Tordoran convoy carrying trade goods was making it way from the Tordoran Space Colonies on the edge of the solar system to the Tordoran astroid mining colonies before heading to earth. However this was not to be, as a Zoir Raiding fleet attacked, blocking all communations from the convoy they quickly overwelmed the ships, killed all the crew and took the cargo leaving the wreaks of the convoy' ships to be found floating in space later.

At the massive Teritoran Space police headquarters, Prince Alan Tor Zorlen, Grand Mashial of the Teritoran Space Police spoke as his aide entered his office. "What is it." The aide replied nerviously. "We have a report that a mining outpost of unknown nationality has ceased all communations, also it seems that the tracking signals of a Tordoran Convoy has dispeared as well." Prince Alan Tor Zorlen spoke. "Send patrol ships to invesgate the mining outpost and send a patrol ship to the last known location of the convoy." The Aide saluted and said. "Yes Grand Marshal, at once." The aide left to issue the orders and soon two patrolships were dispatched.

Ever since the reports from the first Zoir raid had hit home, the CSA or Clairmont Space Agency for short, took action. Fortunately, the only large space project in the entire system that would possibly interest the pirates was the Space Station Knossos. The yet very limited space forces were given new orders and shortly the patrol patterns changed and the Knossos was covered by 6 System patrol boats and 4 System patrol frigates including two squadrons of Executor Endo-Exo Athmospheric fighters.

Captain William Straeker stepped to the very cramped bridge of his 115 meter long, 15,000 ton System Patrol Frigate. His uneasiness was clear to anyone. So far there hadnt been a single real engagement against a real enemy for anyone in the CSA and all the experience the crews had came from simulators. If he the Zoir would come, it would be Straekers task to win the first space-engagement in the nations history.

"Report Jones." Straker requested from the XO as he stepped from the elevator to th e bridge.

"Patrols Alpha-1 and Beta-1 have nothing to report. All stations are operating at maximum capacity. We have an ore hauler approaching as per schedule, its the Farseer. They have transmitted the correct codes and are coming in on 337/590."

Straeker was very pleased to the young man and he had noticed that the Lieutenant-Commander was full of skill and intuition. As Straker came to the bridge, the XO surrendered the captains seat to him.

"Thanks Jones. Anything new of those sensor drones?"

"Yes sir, they have been placed on the pattern you requested and we have their feed linked to tactical."

"Excellent, now lets try to survive thru another 24 hours."

The LRR defenses for the Seneca colony are put on full alert, ready to repulse a raid on the planet itself. Destroyers prowl as far as the asteroid belt, always with fully active sensors and never alone. Deltas of fighters sweep around the space stations in mars orbit, and frigates watch over freighters and cargo shuttles, with fully active weapons.

In the map room, on Seneca base.......

"Now, where could they be?"
"I'd bet they are near the Kupier Belt or Oort cloud. We can divert a destroyer flock from Pluto if we need it."

The two fleet personell (no ranks in LRR) peer over the charts of the sol system and surrounding space.

"Now, where are the reported attacks?"
"One in the asteroid belt, one pretty far out, near the heliopause."
"Not a very good search area."
"We should send out Trebuchet flights to the suspect locations."
"We should. Flight control?"

WMT flight soon arrives at its first destination- Starchaser 5. The base had been abandoned long ago, but was still intact. The five fighters pull into the cavernous docking bay, and the crews step out onto the parpet. It looks thoroughly surreal, as though it was still operational, just without any operators.

"Spooky."
"Yeah, man. Look at these old ships! I've only seen junk like this in books."

The pilot, call him Zaphod, touches one of the power lines to a fighter. It cracks wide open, and the fighter falls out of its berth in a heap. The other crews proceed inside the structure itself, armed with flashlights and blasters.

"Hey, do you hear that humming?"
"Yeah. Spooky."
"Woah! Look at those!"

http://screens.relicnews.com/homeworld/images/movie/Scout.jpg

"The numbers still work! Wierd, man."
"Feel this one!"
"Is it just me or is this scout vibrating?"
"No kidding, man. This scout's still getting power!"
"How do the thermal scans read?"
"I'll ask. Hey, other people! What do you read in terms of thermal scans?"
"Seems like a backup fusion core is still on line!"
"Crazy!"
"Hey, look at this 'vette!"
"Its getting its feed line off the same one as the scout!"
"This place must be, like, a hundred years old at least!"

With that, the door to the corvette fell open with a crash. The two crewmen jump back to behind the power terminal. The strange thing is, the interior of the corvette is lit up.

"Woah! Look at those lights!"
"Lets have a closer look!"

They walk up to the ancient ship.

"Trans-Stellar Spacelines. They taught us about this company in economics class."
"Lets have a look inside."

With that, they climb into the corvette.

Imperal: This ships used by the Zoir Imperal Navy are well armed and extremely heavly sheilded and armored. They are commonly seen dealing with Pirates that are to well armed for the Nobles to handle... or have angered the Emperor. They also guard the Zoir Core worlds, defend and train and prepare in case the Zoir's ancient Enemy return.

Noble: These ships are commonly seen Patroling and defending Zoir controled Star systems, answering destress calls and enforcing Zoir Law in Zoir controled space. It should be noted that Zoir Star Sytems alrightly have a massive protective network of Solar defense stations, satallites, and orbital stations to defend agaist invasions, these bases are were from the Patrol fighters and Patrol ships set out from set out from. their smaller than the Imperal ships and larger than the warlords ships, more like a balance between the two Types.

Deca Commander Berlia recomposed herself and sent the scan data and more data as it came in to the LRRSV Stepehn Stills."

The crew aboard the Stills is not exactly surprised to find this. It moves into the debris field, point defense cannons (as a forigen designed ship, it does not use the standard LRR laser point defense, but rather a system more like the CIWS mounts used on earth) tracking any piece of debris that comes too close.

"Not good. Not good at all. Better tell IP. Sir Herxi, we're going to investigate the outpost, if thats alright with you."
"Brace for docking."

The ship shudders a little as its airlock meets the hull of the station. Crews in full EVA gear start to cut through with plasma torches, and patching crews can be seen exiting the ship. They deploy large, plastic-wrap like objects over the larger holes, in hopes of making the station easier to scrutinize. As soon as the hull is cut through, the LRR investigators pour into the station.

"This attack is characteristic of Zoirian pirate raids. The suddenness of the attack is reflected in the fact that repair crews did not have time to react."

A robot goes over an undisturbed piece of leakage control equipment.

"And the weapon damage is also somewhat telltale."

Meanwhile, another team inspects the defense array.

"Looks like they hardly got off one shot. Definately a surprise attack."

The LRR investigative crews proceed to thoroughly search the site for clues about the pirates' whereabouts.

"We'll keep that in mind. Are you planning to send over an investigation team? The base should be habitable soon."

Repair crews continue to fill in leaks and cracks with a nitinol sealant, and investigators scour the station, hoping to find a piece of something that would tell where the pirates came from.

Meanwhile, in the Kupier belt, a large freighter is having serious engine trouble.

Aboard the LRRSMV Morpheus.......

"Primary hyperspace core off-line!!!!!"
"Reactor's gone critical!!! Damage control teams!! We need damage control teams!!!!!!"
"Mayday, mayday! This is the Morpheus! We're suffering a massive meltdown! We're dead in space!!!! Help us!!!"

But what any prospective listeners to this message don't know is that the ship is completely unmanned. As well as that, it is filled to the brim with Harbringer bombs, rigged to explode when the ship is docked with.

The LRR investigators continue going over the station in utmost detail. They find ripped wires and power conduits where computer equipment had been torn out by Zoirian pirates.

Minutes later, the captain is on the bridge, his orders ring throughout the ship. "We are about to embark on a potentially dangerous mission." he announces. Therefore, we are going to track down and destroy the pirates in the system and posibly launch a strike on their homeworld." The captain turns off the intercom system.
