For those of you not familiar with Warhammer 40k, I'll explain what the Space Orks are.
The Space Orks are exactly what they sound like... Orcs that exist in a future setting and are space-faring weapons using Orcs. Space Orks on average, are just over 2 meters tall, The more important an ork is the larger he will be. Leaders and commanders can be as tall as 3 meters for the older and most successful orks.
Orks tend to dress like post-apocalypse fighters (think mad max and that sort of thing!). Their military has no uniform, except clan color (which for my group is blue). The clan color can be in clothing, jewelry, or body paint.
Ork weaponry is crude. Their guns are loud projectile weapons, as they have almost no laser weapons except ship based ones. Orks use machine guns, rocket launchers, grenades, mortars and a variety of other crude, but effective ranged weaponry. The main problem is that orks have notoriously horrible aim, and are more likely to miss with thier guns than to hit. They seem to be more interested in making noise than actually hitting something.
Ork spaceships are clunky ragtag vessels, that almost look like they are made of junk. They posess no clean lines, no aesthetics, and their ships hulls tend to be adorned with random bits of scap metal that make the ships look like creatures with toothy grinning maws and glowing eyes. Despite their unreliability, ork ships are tough and poweful... after a fashion.
The largest ork vessels are the space hulks. Massive conglomerations of ships welded, crashed, taped, or even glued together. ( no joke!) They are huge! many miles in length and hold incredibly huge amounts of Munitions and fighter/bombers, and ork warriors. Some space hulks are even based around asteroids, to which ships parts and engines are attached. These hulks are the centerpiece of ork fleets and are so hard to destroy that they are not so much blown up as simply broken apart.
Orks themselves, are warmongers. They love fighting of all kinds, but especially bloody hand to hand fights. They excellat close quarter fighting, and shipboarding actions, and they have a vast array of weaponry, from axe-like "choppas" to huge powered claws to aid them in killing.
When orks are not fighting other species they fight themselves. They fight all the time. They are blood thirsty in the extreme and fight everyone as often as possible.
Despite their penchant for random bloodshed orks are not stupid. Nor are they singleminded, machines bent on destroying everything. (like the Borg). Orks can be bargained with, they can be bribed or bought, and they can occasionally be shown reason. Orks will not necesarily always fight to the death and they are willing to retreat or bargain if outmatched. Orks are also more than willing to sell their services as slavers, or mercenaries.
Finally, Ork society is very simple. A Warboss leads the group as a headman, who maintains his position by being the biggest baddest ork around. Orks make large use of slaves for labor or sometimes food, but usually as labor. Orks are fighters, and overseers not farmers.
Thats it and I hope you all have the joy of seeing the toothed prow of an ork warship bearing down on you as it tries to ram you in order to board. Many thanks and best wishes!
