How do you 'Experts' Judge n00bs?
Is it by post count?
Country size?
Both??
I'd like to know... really.

n00b - a new player who wants to play by their own rules, and is unwilling to learn to play properly

newbie - a new player who wishes to play by the rules, and is either willing to learn how to play sensibly, or already knows and therefore acts sensibly....

By RP ability and knowledge of Economy and how to RP a nation.

Spelling is a good thing too, but there are plenty of good people who can't spell... ie Phalanix :P

Rough criteria, in order of detection by me when I read a topic:

-Having silly names like 'pooh fLeXzor' or something like that.
-Spelling is a first pointer when you click on a topic.
-Lenth of their posts. Most n00bs start one-sentence topics.
-Exessive use of the  icon.
-Intelligence/stupidity of their actions. (like brinkmanship with n00kz  )
-Godmoding in all forms.

Only when they are non-n00bish will they be accepted. n00bs get no respect when they come in declaring war on everyone. When I joined NS, I at least got Operation: Righteous Smackdown, now its just IGNORE tech.

OOC:

Personally, if it's really my place to "judge" I go by the following criteria (in no particular order):

1) A willingness to learn.
2) Roleplaying ability - including but not limited to interaction among other nations.
3) Ability to seperate OOC and IC.
4) A willingness to help others and share knowledge.

The Reason I ask is because I'm almost Scared to post for fear of being brutally attacked. This Hazing of New Players is something I see a lot of, so I wanted to test the waters before I actually start RPing. Thanks for the Input.
PS I didn't know there was a distinction between N00b and Noobie. Sigh... I have so much to learn.

You are a July nation. So that helps, you have a decent population to go into a war or a mass crisis with severe death toll.

Try out with writing RP's, you never know if it will suck. If things go wrong, just make an OOC comment on how you wish to do it right being new to the RP'ing world.

Relax. You've already taken the most important first step to avoid n00bity: You have asked questions and paid attention to the responses.

As for getting brutally attacked, it's going to happen anyway, just take it with a grain of salt. Remember, nothing that happens in this game is real. As long as you keep an open mind and don't take things too personally, you'll probably be fine.

Before you start roleplaying, I recommend that you read the stickies at the top of the first page in the NationStates forum. There's a lot of good information there, and most of it will be relevant to your situation, most likely.

Another suggestion would be to make a few posts on NationStates about relatively innocuous subjects which require little or no input from other players ("Insert Nation Name Here builds Coastal Defenses" or something like that). Add in a few quick posts with characters interacting with each other. People will read your posts and become familiar with your nation and roleplaying style. This is called "building a reputation". It shouldn't be necessary in a free-form RP forum, but the herds of mindless n00bs have ruined things for everyone. Practically no one trusts a new nation until they've demonstrated intelligence and writing ability.

You can also post relevant additions to various threads listed as open RP threads. This will get even more attention for you, and increase your reputation. This rep will likely be fairly limited at the start, but you'll gradually be asked to post in other players' threads. Starting a few story threads to introduce characters or outline some aspect of your country's society is also a good idea.

Most important: ask questions if you don't understand something.

1) Read the forums to see who is flaming who.

2) Join the side of the older gamers declaring n00b at the younger ones.

3) Profit!

Seriously, though. My definition of a n00b is someone who wants to RP their characters/nation as being the ultimate expression of [insert category here], undefeatable and generally capable of performing miraculous feats of daring and charisma without so much as a smudged cheek.

Please, children. Don't tell us how incredibly wonderful/powerful/attractive you are. Let your RP speak for itself, because it does anyway. It usually says things you didn't intend while you're attempting to beat us over the head with how utterly cool you are.

Well, as long as he'she gets along with the RP business, it shouldn't be a problem. Some people will "get it" immediately, some will learn slow.

Anywyas, just be yourself, Dered. Trust yourself to be a good RPer, no questions asked. A join date or post count is not a letdown into saying you are a good RPer or not. That's how I think.
