Muslim-Christian Clash

10-11-2003, 07:32
Pro Capitalists is a neighbor of The Oppressive Church, which you may have seen recently annexed by Roania, only to be suddenly left by Roania recently.

Well, in Pro Capitalists (PC) there is a large Muslim Population. The nation has no official Religion, but it's foundations were built by the Church, which is now a minority to Muslims. The Muslims mainly immigrated to the country during the late 19th-mid 20th centuries, and have since outnumbered Christians in the nation. The flag of PC is a tradition Muslim symbol, but otherwise then that, government has stayed out of both religions, which up until recently have coexisted peacefully.

In the recent weeks, tension has been growing. Mainly in the PC port city of Bata'an, which is the second largest Muslim Center in the country. There is an old 18th Century Christian Church standing near the downtown area, which is dilapidated. The Church technically does not operate within it any longer due to it's deterioration. But Christians were outraged when it was suggested that the Church be demolished, and a Mosque be built on it's place. It would be primarily for convenience, as almost no Christians live within the neighborhoods near where the Church stands. Only Muslims live in that area, and they lack a nearby Mosque.

Christians have been protesting that it is a symbol of Muslim dominance, and it is tearing down one of the oldest Church's in the city, not to mention one of the oldest buildings. The city planing commission argues that it's entirely for convenience, as no one uses the Church anymore. Citizens of the area say it would be Convenient if their were a Masque nearby, and the Church, unused for nearly 50 years, is an eyesore which has fallen into complete ruin. The Muslim Leader for the city says tearing down the Church would be convenient, make the area look nicer, and be somewhat of a symbol of "Out with the Old, in with the New." Finally, a Historian believes that it would be better if the Mosque was built on a block in the same neighborhood, where the houses are all abandoned, and then the Church turned into a Museum.

Whichever course of the city takes, it's been a rather odd week. Considering the two Religions lived so peacefully before this, and this tiny little issue that could be so easily resolved, has set off quite a lot of Anti-Muslim/Christain sentiment. Seen just today in a Christian Protest outside a Mosque in the downtown area of Bata'an. And a Muslim Protest outside the area's Bishop's home. Just a few minutes ago, the Bishop for the area refused to meet with the main Muslim Cleric, and Visa Versa, after the city's mayor asked the two to meet.

This situation continues to slowly become more tense, as more of these small insignificant issues pop up. Hopefully no more action will come of it, and these two Religion's will continue to live in peace. Then again, this could be a "Calm Before the Storm" that we are experiencing right now...

OOC: It is a "Calm Before the Storm", some carnage is going down later...

Do you wish to deport some Christians to us before things get worse? Or do you want to have a full attack in a riot. Or do you want the deportations to start the violence?

Just some OOC ideas.

Goodness no! The Government does not descriminate or favor either religion! And if we ever want to deport our Christians, we do live right next door to TOC.

Your problem is minor. We regularly get Jews, Moslems and Christians trying get their structures built over demolished buildings on unused land. We have a special Religious Dispute Council consisting of Jews, Moslems and Christians which handle these issues. In event of conflict, the Queen can issue a royal edict turning the disputed land into royal possession.

I know it's a minor problem. But strictly speaking OOC, it's meant to be the spark that causes the forest fire. IE: We're gonna have some MAJOR Muslim-vs-Christian carnage soon...

Did I actually just misspell Muslim/Moslem that much? My spellchecker said Muslim was right... If I did spell it wrong well

Might as well... You can build them in the Northern Part of our country, near the PC/TOC border. If PC doesn't deport any Christians to us, we can just use them later for any other Deportation issues that might arise.

Thank you Jeruselem, you're the first nation to actually help me recently. Roania was helping me, and then annexed me, and then... left suddenly...

Actually he's my ally, but we are not going to start annexing you as well. We are sending in my knights to built a new camp to house 20-30 thousand people first. We'll also dig new wells, set up an aid infrastructure and the Knights will be armed to provided security from bandits. All you need to do is feed the aid supply lines. We'll install a portable Church as well for needy in spirit.

Night has fallen on the city of Bata'an. The last days events have been forgotten as the city turns it for bed. A Church bell is heard ringing in the Midnight Hour.

Ding, Dong, Ding, Dong... Ding, Dong, Ding, Dong...

"Shhh, be quiet..." A voice says from the shadows.

Dong...

"Think this will work?" Another voice asks.

Dong...

"If it doesn't, who would guess us? They'll blame the Muslims..." A Third voice says

Dong...

"Right... You go to the left, I'll go the right." The Third voice commands, two shadowy figures crouch through the bushes outside a large opulent home. A Third figure moves up to the door beside the bush he was crouching in, and breaks the lock.

Dong...

The Church bells ever present, moonlight shining down onto the ornate Town House. One of the figures drops into the basement of the home through a cellar window. The other crouched along the ground, breaking through a Window. The Third person types in a Security Code into the Security Alarm panel.

Dong...

One figure quickly opens his duffel bag, taking out explosives, and placing them on the floor of the basement. The Second slips into the Home's kitchen, and quickly set up more explosives on a counter.

Dong...

The Third quietly sneaks upstairs, placing explosives near a door on the second story.

Dong... Dong.... Dong....

They all sneak out of the house, and down the street separating in different directions. A counter ticking down 3...

Dong...

Explosions rip through the two story Victorian Style home. A Giant fireball rising upwards from the house, breaking through the windows, and blowing apart the brick walls...

As morning dawned, a Government Official dressed in an Italian suit got out of his Black Sedan, and looked at the rubble that was left of the town home. The Official walked towards a Police Detective. "So what happened?" He asked the Detective.

"There's no clues... Except for the fact that the Alarm system didn't go off, which means whoever they were, they either knew the code or set the bombs before the Code Confirmation Period wore out... Which is unlikely, as the Code Confirmation Period is about 10 seconds..." The Detective said sighing.

"Fatalities...?" The Official looked at the charred basement hole in the ground. Only scorched bricks, and some pipes from the plumbing remained.

"The Bishop, and his personal Secretary, who we think was getting a little too personal, being there at Midnight..." The Detective snickered.

"The Bishop..." The Official gulped. "As in THE Bishop of Bata'an?"

"Yeah..." The Detective sighed.

"What's happening in the Church?"

"Chaos... Large Masses being held... Pointing fingers at the Muslims..."

"Ugh... This needs PR Cleanup..." The Official sighed. "Anything that actually points at the Muslims?"

"Besides the fact that the Muslim Cleric absolutely refused to see the Bishop, and completely avoided this area last night, having his driver drive around this neighborhood last night... No..."

"This REALLY needs PR cleanup... Call me if anything turns up..." The Official got back in his car.

"On behalf of the people of Rotovia I issue my deepest sympathies and prayers to people of your nation. Loosing such an important and holy man must be a great blow to the Faithful. However, it is also my duty to insist the government do everything in it's power to see the perpetrators be brought to justice. Good night...and God Bless"

We would like to deploy the 5th Crusader Army in The Oppresive Church on the border to protect our proposed refugee camps to be built and to stop any fighting moving into the TOC border. A force of 1,000 troops with armoured (Light) vehicles is proposed.

I have to discuss this with TOC first of course. The state of TOC army is not exactly good enough to handle a border conflict after my ally Roania left.

<To the Pro Cap Leadership>

As a predominantly Mithraist nation we believe we're in a good position to offer peace-keeping troops should things escalate. We offer to commit the Royal Marines on a short term basis, conditional on your acceptance of course.. neutrality is best in this issue, and we have no bias to either religion, unlike those others comitting to you..we await your reply.

The Government has denied the offer of Peace Keeping forces at this time. Nothing violent that the country cannot handle has happened as of yet. The Government will keep the offer in mind in the event that something does happen within the next few days...

IC:

The Christian community was outraged, and outside nearly every Mosque, protesters picketed outside yelled and were throwing things at the religious buildings.

The Government was investigating the fact that the Muslim Cleric had avoided the area. "So, the statement from his driver was that he made him drive around that neighborhood...?" One Government official asked the other.

"Yeah... But that was at 8:40-ish PM, hours before the bomb... There would be no reason to avoid it at that time, if he knew the bomb was going off at midnight."

"But if the bombs were planted beforehand, and were set to go off at midnight..."

"I doubt that.... They were planted then... The Cleric was probably just making a statement that he wouldn't even be driven near the Bishop's home."

"But then who? If it wasn't the Muslims, who?"

"I'm not saying it wasn't the Muslims, it might have been, but the Cleric probably knew nothing of it... But bring him in for questioning anyway... And his Driver..."

"Right..."

~Sometime Later~

"He refuses to leave his home!?" The one government official from before says to a Police Officer.

"He says the protesters outside will kill him if he leaves, so he's not leaving." The Police Officer shrugs.

"Then get a Court Order to make him leave!"

"Okay..."

~Even Later~

"What!?" The Official looks shocked at the Police Officer.

"He says this is a Christian plot against him. And he says it will take the entire Military to get him to leave his home. He believes Christians are in charge of the government, and want him, and his religion destroyed. He's also calling out for hostilities against the Church."

"What the hell!? He's only making this situation worse. We only wanted him for questioning!"

"It's already gotten worse. Muslims nearly set a Private Christian school in uptown on fire... And it's getting worse still, the Muslim Community is listening to him, and rising up...."
