Cricket International Championship | begins Monday

Kaze Progressa
08-11-2003, 12:31
Kaze Progressa are hosting the first-ever NationStates Cricket International Championship.

Entry is open to all interested parties, though all nations must submit match reports reasonably frequently. Scorecards are auto-generated using Total Cricket (thanks Cockbill Street :)).

The tournament will take the form of two groups of five teams, playing each other once in a one-day, 50 overs per side match. The top two from each group progress to the semi-finals at which point a straight knockout begins.

Was about to join, but realised that it was ODI. Ah well...must start a Test Championship too then.

Still, ODIs are part of the game, so the prosperous people of Cockbill Street will club together some bats and get going to Kaze Progressa.

I think you should have to post to join....

And Darkness, population has nothing to do with it. I'd accept a November nation, as long as they were a Minister or above.

Moontian, Tritonites, and Nereidans will each send a team.

Owing to the limits of capacity for this championship, only one team will be eligible. (OOC: This is a specification of a 'no puppets' rule.)

However, a Moontian Empire representative XI can be sent.

Spaam: I will see if this (frankly, phenomenal) rate of signup continues, and if it does, then entry restrictions will be added.

Yeah I'm amazed.... I've still only got 11 in the Quidditch World Cup. Which reminds me.... your turn to bump :P

Well, you could have filled the Cup already if you didn't have those silly entry rules...

Because such unestablished nations might not produce good RPs (or any RPs) frequently.

And our entry rules are still not fixed - we haven't decided yet. The current policy is to wait and see if this rate of signups continues, and if it does, for entry requirements to be tightened.
Spaam
08-11-2003, 12:50
Minister and above is to prevent all the nations that join and then disappear. I want the nations to have at least a minimal amount of RPing skills, and I don't think it is unreasonable.
Dyelli Beybi
08-11-2003, 12:58
oh right. My point would be that some of the Nations signing up may be recreated and thus actually have past RPing experience. Also Minister is no guarantee as for all we know all the posts could have been trolling.

08-11-2003, 13:07
Banatolia would love to join the fray. We're currently only really amateurs at international sport (6 cricket clubs and counting), but we relish the competition.

OOC: If the nation looks small to you, it's the RP puppet of a much much larger nation. I'd tell you who I am, but...

BUMP

I've created the scoring system. Teams will be telegrammed the results (generated from a little portable cricket game I have using bizarre dice. I've worked out a way of creating realistic scores for ODIs with it, but without explaining the game I can't really explain it) and are then free to RP. Results will be telegrammed an innings at a time so as to a) rack up tension and b) ensure no conflict in RPs with who scored what.

Edit: If anyone here has a game in the International Cricket Captain series that allows players to edit the stats and names, this might be an easier way of score generation. (I don't.)

Can't help you with ICC games, but I do have a couple of good games that gives scorecards and statistics. They're pretty realistic IMO (Total Cricket and Syedur Rahman's Cricket Simulator). And you can edit them easily.

Well, Kaze Progressa, you could try Total Cricket (http://www.cricketweb.net/downloadscentre/freeware/downloads/totalcricket/TotalCricket.zip) - if you have Visual Basic files, which most computers have. If that one doesn't work, downloadThe Cricket Simulator (http://www.cricketweb.net/downloadscentre/freeware/downloads/thecricketsimulator/cricksim.zip).

They should be of use, and both have editors.

And that's gone for four bumps... (nah, only one :D)

We'll need rosters from the teams for the editor to work.

To ensure there is equality in the teams, each player will have to be of (roughly) equal skill. The squads must hence be sorted as follows:

Openers (will have batting average 40, bowling average 100)
Middle Order 1: bat avg 30, bowl avg 75
Middle Order 2: bat avg 20, bowl avg 50
Lower Order 1: bat avg 15, bowl avg 40
Lower Order 2: bat avg 10, bowl avg 35

Total 16 including at least 2 openers, 5 middle order and 5 lower order. You must also designate at least two wicketkeepers (who will almost certainly be openers because wicketkeepers won't bowl anyway by definition) and give bowler types (your choices are fast bowler, medium pacer, spinner) for each of the other players. The starting eleven can be auto-generated (dependent upon the pitch I think... Cockbill Street can correct me on this) if desired.

You may also select three star players. Each is eligible to either a higher batting average or a lower bowling average (by 6 in each case) or both (by 3). So a medium order 2 player could be a star bowler (bowling average falls to 44), a star batter (batting average rises to 26) or a star all-rounder (batting average to 23, bowling average to 47).

Kaze Progressa's squad (you can use this as an example yourself):

E. Ferita (opener, fast bowler)
R. Sarotta (opener, wicketkeeper, star batter)
S. Taazii (opener, medium pacer)
Z. Pugat (middle order 1, medium pacer, star batter)
T. Eritun (middle order 1, spinner)
F. Whynti (middle order 1, medium pacer)
Y. Teritas (middle order 1, medium pacer)
G. Gutniz (middle order 2, spinner)
F. Tertin (middle order 2, fast bowler)
A. Stratoi (lower order 1, spinner)
Z. Firazan (lower order 1, fast bowler)
R. Puter (lower order 1, spinner, star bowler)
F. Etin (lower order 2, medium pacer)
O. Terta (lower order 2, fast bowler)
R. Inhea (lower order 2, fast bowler)
A. Palera (lower order 2, spinner)

(OOC: R. Inhea and A. Palera are brothers of Fek Inhea and Eaka Palera from the KP football team :D)

Sadly, the starting XI is not dependent on the pitch. I think there is some kind of algorithm that chooses it based on the statistics, irrelevant of bowling types.

Colon left out of squad for World Cup

Art Colon, the 27-year-old Cockbill Street opener with a batting average of 43 for the One-Day Rats, was the shock absentee from the 16-man International Championship squad named today. Manager Carrot Ironfoundersson said that they were very sorry to drop Colon but felt that his List A record this season simply didn't fit the bill. Colon has an average of 24 in List A matches this season, and this includes three golden ducks for his team, the Yappies. Also, the recent ODI serious against Gleam Street and Hershebia found him lacking, getting out caught twice with some pathetic ballooned shots and some ridiculous run outs. He was also left out of the Test team to play in the Cricket League.

Ironfoundersson announced that these 16 would get tickets to Kaze Progressa:
Pete Jones - Opener, star batsman, keeper*
Bjorn 'Bails-off' Stronginthearm - Opener, keeper*
Colin Nicklaus - Opener, keeper
Lee Weaver - Middle order 1, spinner*
Ilkin Ridcully - Middle order 1, medium pacer*
Winston Sanders - Middle order 1, medium pacer
Stjepan von Uberwald - Middle order 2, spinner*
Cheery Littlebottom - Middle order 2, spinner*
Alexander Chapman - Middle order 2, spinner
Lars Bearhugger - Lower order 1, star both, medium pacer*
Andrew Carter - Lower order 1, fast*
Lee Rammer - Lower order 1, fast
Sam 'Sturdy' Jackrum - Lower order 2, star bowler, spinner*
Tom Aitkin - Lower order 2, fast*
Denis Underwood - Lower order 2, fast*
Brian Trescott - Lower order 2, spinner

Those players denoted with a star are in the C-mail's probable starting XI.

You'll need to put the players categorised by Opener, Lower Order 1/2 and Middle Order 1/2. And the 'chinaman' and 'mid-fast' will be categorised as 'spinner' and 'fast' as they're the nearest equivalents.

CS: Now there's a shame... I might change some of the sides (mine, certainly) depending upon the pitch...

Anyways, the draw:

Group A:
Kaze Progressa
ENTROM
Walmington-on-Sea
Dyelli Beybi
Cockbill Street

Group B:
Belmore Family
Darkness Engage
Banatolia
Spaam
I-Rey

Fixtures:

Days 1/2: 1 v 4, 2 v 3 (no 5)
Day 3/4: 1 v 5, 2 v 4 (no 3)
Day 5/6: 1 v 2, 3 v 5 (no 4)
Day 7/8: 1 v 3, 4 v 5 (no 2)
Day 9/10: 2 v 5, 3 v 4 (no 1)
(Group A play on odd-numbered days, Group B on even-numbered days)

Day 11: Winner A vs 2nd B
Day 12: Winner B vs 2nd A
Day 13: 3rd place playoff
Day 14: final

Starting day will be when all teams have rosters. My RL issues (we're moving house and don't know when) means that I may rely on Cockbill Street to generate some of the results. I'll have to send him the requisite files.

Walmingtonian cricket is perhaps a little old fashioned (gasp). Most players bat without protective head-gear, and spin bowling is a new concept to most. Mr.Kelteraping is a Ceyloban born subject of the empire who moved to WoS as a child, and has since caused all manner of trouble on the county circuit. Many will be surprised if the rest of the team take another wicket between them in the competition- a lot of them are used to bowling under-arm. The batsmen think they're up to scratch, at least, but only time will tell if they can cope with the possibility of facing more than one spinner.

Good idea. I did try it with the RL teams, and it was bug-tastic, so that's precisely what I've done.

It also allows me to determine the stadia precisely, as it auto-generates the stadia in the World Cup mode.

And that's gone for four bumps... (nah, only one :D)

We'll need rosters from the teams for the editor to work.

To ensure there is equality in the teams, each player will have to be of (roughly) equal skill. The squads must hence be sorted as follows:

Openers (will have batting average 40, bowling average 100)
Middle Order 1: bat avg 30, bowl avg 75
Middle Order 2: bat avg 20, bowl avg 50
Lower Order 1: bat avg 15, bowl avg 40
Lower Order 2: bat avg 10, bowl avg 35

Total 16 including at least 2 openers, 5 middle order and 5 lower order. You must also designate at least two wicketkeepers (who will almost certainly be openers because wicketkeepers won't bowl anyway by definition) and give bowler types (your choices are fast bowler, medium pacer, spinner) for each of the other players. The starting eleven can be auto-generated (dependent upon the pitch I think... Cockbill Street can correct me on this) if desired.

You may also select three star players. Each is eligible to either a higher batting average or a lower bowling average (by 6 in each case) or both (by 3). So a medium order 2 player could be a star bowler (bowling average falls to 44), a star batter (batting average rises to 26) or a star all-rounder (batting average to 23, bowling average to 47).

Kaze Progressa's squad (you can use this as an example yourself):

E. Ferita (opener, fast bowler)
R. Sarotta (opener, wicketkeeper, star batter)
S. Taazii (opener, medium pacer)
Z. Pugat (middle order 1, medium pacer, star batter)
T. Eritun (middle order 1, spinner)
F. Whynti (middle order 1, medium pacer)
Y. Teritas (middle order 1, medium pacer)
G. Gutniz (middle order 2, spinner)
F. Tertin (middle order 2, fast bowler)
A. Stratoi (lower order 1, spinner)
Z. Firazan (lower order 1, fast bowler)
R. Puter (lower order 1, spinner, star bowler)
F. Etin (lower order 2, medium pacer)
O. Terta (lower order 2, fast bowler)
R. Inhea (lower order 2, fast bowler)
A. Palera (lower order 2, spinner)

(OOC: R. Inhea and A. Palera are brothers of Fek Inhea and Eaka Palera from the KP football team :D)

One bump hit by the Cockbill Street team.

Sign-up is open again I believe. Please join, we only need 2 more teams to start this tournament. Name a squad of 16 as explained above.

No. But there's no sign of response.

I'm moving house tomorrow and have no idea when I'll be back.

I'll knock up the ENTROM and Akbarland squads into the Total Cricket format as far as possible when back (probably some time early next week but it's anyone's guess) and hopefully two more teams will enter by then. If not, then I'll keep it at eight teams.

Scorecards will be telegrammed at around 7pm GMT. I've just fixed a minor flaw - I had the bowlers' economy rate at 10% of their strike rate, which turned out to make them supermen (star bowlers at lower order 2 giving away less than three runs an over? That's Test match economy stats, not ODI economy stats.) I increased each of these economy rates for middle order 2 down by 1 per over. This should lead to more realistic scores. :)

Rats Bat Their Way To Victory
Aitkin Supply With Key Top Order Wickets

In the first match of the Cricket Championship, Pete Jones and Lee Weaver were the stars of a proper slog-fest at Daurama. Bjorn Stronginthearm started out well as support batsman to Jones, but lofted a straight drive to mid on, down the throat of Gunit. And gun he were (34 for 1). Colin Nicklaus stepped on, eager to make his mark on his ODI debut for Cockbill Street. And in what style he did it. Although not the most aggressive of batsmen - in fact, he only hit one four - he proved very good support for Jones, who could just build on his score. Nicklaus got himself out to a very poor stroke, however, as he got a thick edge to a ball from Inrath that sailed way outside the off stump. Busilian at first slip said thanks and howzat, and Nicklaus had to leave on 36 (141 for 2) The Daurama crowd appreciated Jones's brave efforts to keep the innings together, and as he reached 100 with his 106th ball, one that was struck fiercely to deep midwicket for a one-bounce four, the crowd rose in cheers. Also, the efforts of Lee Weaver must be mentioned. He started out very slowly, being on 10 from 24 balls when Jones nicked Sharavati's only good ball of the day to keeper Inrath for an easy catch (214 for 3), yet his mind suddenly changed. The poor and wayward bowling of Dasgupta and Busilan did not alter the fact that this was a splendid knock. Weaver ended on 80 not out from just 64 balls, hitting 70 off the last 40 balls, including 7 fours and a massive lofted drive that went all the way to the long on boundary. Cockbill Street closed on an impressive 281 for 3, with a pretty solid run rate of 5.62.

Then, it was time for the fast and furious Aitkin & Underwood show. Bowling with all kinds of confidence, they took 5 wickets between them in the space of 17 overs. Gunit tried to loft Underwood's quickie, but never got behind it properly and got way too much bat under it - easy catch at mid off for Aitkin. Aitkin then bowled a quite good ball, a bit outside the off stump, but Ganguly got a very thick edge and it sailed to Nicklaus at first slip (35 for 2). Moments later, Sharavati did exactly the same mistake, but now to Bearhugger at second slip off Underwood's bowler (36 for 3). Dasgupta tried to his best to collaborate with Runagan to save the innings, but Runagan got caught to a fine running catch at midwicket by Stronginthearm (56 for 4 after 12.4 overs). These fine bowling spells resulted, naturally, in a deep crisis for Shonar Bangla, and the hole was dug deeper when Dasgupta was plumb leg-before to a splendidly delivered yorker served by, you guessed it, Tom Aitkin. Aitkin retired with figures of 10-0-36-0 and was Cockbill Street's second hero of the day with his fine length bowling. Underwood, although getting the wickets, was often erratic and bowled his balls very wide and short. Rinkukar tried to save the innings with a fine knock of 96, but Brian Trescott eventually got him more due to luck than anything else, as Rinkukar tried to score his 100 with a stroke to deep midwicket that was caught well by Nicklaus - his second catch of the day (207 for 7 after 39.3 overs). Busilan had been caught and bowled for 34 earlier by the same man, Trescott, but apart from those wickets his bowling was decidedly mediocre, and he was lucky to end with figures of 2/67. With 10.3 overs to spare, Bearhugger and Jackrum were sent out to keep the run rate down, as Shonar Bangla needed 74 from those 10.3 overs - well possible given a proper slog. However, Singh and Romagathi were not up to the task, and Cockbill Street's fans survived some nail-biting final overs.

27 Belmorians dead after Spaamainian Attacks in Storavora

"A dreadful act of Terrorism" was what Prime Minister Alan Belmore said about the brutal attack from Spaam supporters in the recent cricket match in Kaze Progressa. The lone attacker found out the names of 1,000 Alan Belmore's travelling to the match. The attacked found 50 of them and knifed them during a 10 hour period during the night. The Belmorian Police at the match released this statement-

"The attackers nationality has not been confirmed but he is presumed to be Spaamainian. We cought him trying to attack what would have been his 51st victim. The Storovian Police worked swiftly to aprehend this man with no shots being fired. He has been taken to a Storovian Police Headquarters where he has been questioned for the last 2 hours. He is currently sleeping in a prison cell awaiting his bail hearing tomorrow."

This is the first attack by a Spaamainian on a Belmorian and this man is a dreadful reflection on great nation. We are still awaiting forthe official Kaze Progressa response.

In a press conference this morning in Storavora, where the tragic events of last night took place, head of the Storavora Police Jartillan Nurvalta made the following announcement:

'Good morning to everyone, on this sad, sad day. The traditionally gentle, sporting game of cricket has been ripped apart by events beyond all imagination. A lone Spaamian assassin discovered the presence of numerous men named Alan Belmore, survivors of the recent purge on men of this name, among the 15,000 fans in the Batty Bay Stadium. Upon the conclusion of the match, at approximately 5:25pm local time, the assassin left the ground quickly, slipping by undetected among Belmorian fans celebrating victory. It is believed he then knived a number of Alan Belmores within 750m of the ground, mostly close to Batty Bay railway station and the Golden Duck Chinese restaurant. The attacks took place throughout the night, and the arrest made at 3:17am local time. No shots were fired in the operation. The man cannot be identified for legal reasons, but will remain in police custody inside a maximum-security island prison to the northwest of Storavora until further notice.

Twenty-three men were recovered by Storavora Ambulance Service and taken to Batty Bay General Hospital. There is no word as yet on the condition of these men, who are believed to have primarily suffered chest wounds. Twenty-seven more were pronounced dead at the scene.

It is clear that there is dramatic and excessive rivalry between the two nations; there were offensive chants from a small minority of fans from both nations during the game, specifically after several wickets and at the end of the Spaamian innings. Storavora Police therefore recommend that no international matches in any sport between the two nations be sanctioned by the appropriate governing bodies. As there was little evidence of such a dangerous rivalry at the time of the draw, no attempt was made to separate the two at that point.

Our condolences and sympathies obviously lay with the relatives of the dead, and to the players who could never have anticipated such tragic events. Matches in the Cricket League will be postponed until tomorrow, in respect for the dead.'

The Standard It's just not cricket!
Several calls for victorious Walmingtonians to withdraw from bloody tournament

After Walmington's first match ended in the sound defeat of some nation no one can even find on maps, or in reference books, many in the nation's cricketing establishment have voiced horror at the corruption of the game in other competing nations.

"If we wanted this we should be watching the Red Bears!" So said WCB umpire Clarance Teebles, referencing the nation's up and coming ice hockey team.

This after the much reported fatalities surrounding The Belmore Family's defeat of Spaam lead to a state of war being declared between the two nations.

The WoS cricket team has yet to comment on the situation, content to quietly celebrate their victory over ENTROM, whoever in God's name they may be.

Walmington's victory was a solid one, and much needed by a cricketing community feeling threatened by new fast action sports arriving in Walmington, ice hockey most notably.

WoS fans had every sympathy for ENTROM's Smith, who scored his side's only half century as the order collapsed around him, leading him to being unfortunately run out in a desperate attempt to salvage the match.

Walmington's solid all around fielding performance was backed up by half centuries from Cottee and Edwards -who was not out and just short of a century at 95- while Chamberlain fell frustratingly short of his own half century, bowled by van der Wyst for 49.

Kaze Progressa proved too strong for Spurland, their bowlers skittling them out for 164 with nearly 14 overs to spare after the batsmen knocked up a target of 269 led by Pugat's steady 71, punctuated by three fours and two sixes, and rapid-fire knocks from Ferita (58 from 59) and Taazii (48 from 45).

Puter dominated the bowling with 4/37 from his ten allotted overs, including a maiden, while Etin took two late wickets in barely five overs. The Progressans look good for progression on this display.

OOC: Kaze Progressa, I think your net RR calculation is slightly wrong for Kaze Progressa v Spurland. Spurland actually had the chance to bat out 50 overs, they were just bowled out before that, therefore their total of 164 should be divided by 50, not 36.166666. And the spacing doesn't work, I put it in myself so it will look nicer :)

Aitkin Continue On Rolling Form
Four wickets send Rats to new heights

What an enormous display. The whole team was solid throughout against the first real opponent, Akbarland, and that resulted in a huge five-wicket win that could possibly send us straight into the semi-finals.

Tom Aitkin, the match hero with figures of 4/41 that paved the way for an easy run-chase, was of course pleased with his own performance after the game. He persisted, however, that the last two games against Spurland and Kaze Progressa would be the toughest, and that especially the Spurland game would be a key, as a win could send us right through to the second round.

The Akbarland batsmen did a pretty good job, but were too slow scorers to ever threaten the Cockbill Street players. Aitkin got off to an excellent start as Islam got a thick edge to Nicklaus at second slip - 0 for 1 after 3 balls. After that, Ahmed, Cowdhury and Kahman all made solid scores, and brought the Akbarland score to 147 for 4 after 30.3 overs. Some problems were foreseen, because although the lower-order batsmen were not as skilled, they were expected to start a real slog if they could get settled. However, Jackrum and Aitkin refused to give them that edge, and bowled well with good line and length, and got rewarded. Jackrum with the wicket of Akbar, who was caught by Nicklaus for 21 just after he'd hit two fours in succession, and Aitkin with that beautiful ball to Haque that dumbfounded him completely and left him dollying the ball to mid off, where Sanders stood thankful and caught it cleanly. By that time, with about four overs left, Akbarland were in tatters at 223 for 7. Anwar was later dismissed for a duck and Alam for 3, leaving Rana and Kowshik to fight to get the target up in the last three overs. Amazingly, they held out, and Akbarland closed on 238 for 9.

Time for a proper slog, Pete Jones thought, and did so. With six fours in the innings, he made his fifty off just 35 balls, although he was very lucky not to be caught on at least two occasions. He wasn't so lucky with the next one, however, a real turner from Anwar that was left alone but smashed into his off stump - bowled for 50. His opening partner, Stronginthearm, left long before that, and Nicklaus and Weaver had also been dismissed for relatively low scores. Thus, the Rats were reeling a bit on 93 for 4, but Ilkin Ridcully and William Sanders brought the game back in control. They put on a 138 partnership for the 5th wicket, before Sanders was trapped lbw by Rana, and thus Stjepan von Uberwald and Ridcully had to hit 9 off 17.4 overs to win the game. Ridcully scored a good three to deep square leg with the first ball of the 35th over to win the game for the Rats.

The Standard- Walmingtonians complain as side falters on "world's worst ever surface"

Walmingtonian confidence was dented yesterday as the cricket side narrowly lost to I-Rey, a side most domestic pundits still rate as far inferior.

"Clearly this surface was not fit for play" Insisted vocal Walmingtonian umpire Teebles.

WoS found themselves bowled out for 131- no one in the empire -even the Ceylobans- believe this a likely outcome given the side's talent. The potentially sore opinion was backed up somewhat when I-Rey lost eight wickets for just 132 runs. Perhaps Teebles had a point- this was clearly not a batsman's field.

Walmingtonian fans made their way home disgruntled, most feeling that they had witnessed only half of what they payed for in a match that was over exceptionally soon, and as such one that seemed deceptively one-sided. The side maintains that their defeat was nothing more than poor luck, and with a nod to the more fortunate opposition, promised to soundly defeat its next challenger.

OOC: That game was played on Farela, a ground which usually has higher bounce than usual and doesn't suit spinners. D. Harry who took 7/26 off ten overs is a fast bowler... but I agree, this is a pretty mad result.

I was getting results like this all the time before I changed the bowling economy stats.

Stronginthearm Finds Form At Just the Right Time
Spurland Brushed Aside For Rats' Third Win

Excellent stuff. No more need be said about the cricketers of Cockbill Street, who yet again proved their worth in an international. Today, Spurland were the victims, but the executioners were different. Before, Peter Jones and Tom Aitkin have been the stars of the team. Today, Ilkin Ridcully (who, admittedly, had a very good game against Akbarland) and Bjorn Stronginthearm stepped up to smash the Spurland bowlers all around the park. Their fourth-wicket partnership of 91 was absolutely crucial in the win, and when Stronginthearm was caught on the boundary he had made 116 off just 93 balls.

Before that, however, the Spurland players had tried to make a huge target, but they were all stopped before they really got off the mark. Lone made 47, Hind 35, Sick 70 and Day 20. The Daurama pitch seemed very unresponsive to fast bowling, and as such, the Spurland batsmen had a field day with Underwood and Aitkin. Despite that, the captain persisted with Aitkin for the full ten overs, with mediocre figures of 10-0-56-0 as a result. The final target of 259 looked tough, but not impossible to beat.

And due to Stronginthearm's heroics, it wasn't either. The other batsmen played mediocre at best, bar of course Ridcully's 58, and in the end the bowlers Lars Bearhugger and 'Sturdy' Jackrum had to stand up and hit the winning runs for Cockbill Street.

This victory means that Cockbill Street surely must be through to the second round. In theory, a huge loss, about 100 runs maybe, against Kaze Progressa could send us out of the tournament, but that depends on Akbarland beating Kaze Progressa by quite an amount as well. Of course, with a win over Kaze Progressa, the Rats could get an easier semi-final draw against the second-placed team of Group B.

Spurland Cricket Board Upset With Team
~The Times of Spurland~

In response to the humiliating defeats to Kaze Progressa and Cockbill Street, the Spurland Cricket Board have announced that preformances like that should not continue and warned that there could be changes made in the team after the tournament.

There are several players waiting for their chance to play for the team. Among them, the Engelman brothers, Harry and Peter, each averaging over 40 runs. And spin bowler Christian Redknapp.

The players appear to be putting more of an effort in training and it is expected that they should be able to retain some pride in the next game.

(ooc: Hehe, I hope the Walmingtonian press doesn't offend anyone- we are a 1940s constitutional monarchy, still maintaining a vast empire, and under a conservative government. So far as we're concerned there are very few and very British nations on earth that can ever do anything right, and everyone else is just learning ;) Especially when it comes to national sports like cricket- WoS has begun to..loose to her colonies, which smarts ('s what you get for colonising South Africa and Sri Lanka), especially during such uncertain times as.. the second world war. Pride is presently exceptionally easy to bruise :) )
