OOC: String Players?
Has anyone considered this new type of Fantasy Character? It's Fantasy with a Sci-Fi approach! My idea is, for those of you who know the basics of string theory (ie; have watched the Nova special or have picked up the latest sci am) Someone who could have control over strings... Basically a mage, but with an explanation. By changing the vibration and resonance etc of the billions of strings that make up atoms, one could affect things like energy output, gravitational pull, and change characteristics of atoms! If someone were to possess this power, they would certainly posess any power a Mage would have.
just a thought.
I'm thinking of trying it out on one of my RP campaigns... sound at all interesting?
no comments? please... insights! ^_^

I don't think atoms are made of strings, they're made of particles, and those particles are made of quarks n gluons, and so on. If you want the facts behing whether this would be possible or not it would probably step on your creativity.
this sounds like a great idea. but from what i can gather, strings are just a theroy. with no "physical" or "real world" examples of how this works, i don't know how you would be able to do it.
i my self know nothing about strings, so i might just come off as an idiot...
pssh, as if every other future tech player doesn't turn some theory into fact... ie wormholes, alternate universes, FTL travel... this is simply another aspect.

Well ya sound pretty set on it, I say go for it, its bad enough to have so many trite nations based on other worlds made by other people, its the main reasons why I eschewed a conventional military for warbeast, just make sure it is well balanced.
Meh, i'm just experimenting. it's not gonna be CC Canon, just part of this RP... if it works out, I might keep it, but it'd only be like 1 or 2 special characters.
I just think i should have some unique magic ability, since everyone else seems to... like personally I don't believe in alternate dimensions theory, yet i see it all around me... as well as many others. So I'm bringin up my own stuff... just more effort on my part to bring originality to NS instead of doing the same ol' star wars and babylon 5 crap.

Amen to that, I would say focus your military on one main tenet, mine is number over quality, huge amounts of very specialized, yet low durability warbeast. I can imagine an entire army based on the tenets of ambush and unseen attack through atomic modification and movement.

And few of them.
My fleet is very small, but could easily tak on anything anyone could give them (within reason... no 4 million 4km-long ship fleets :P)

well with a conservative military there are more disadvantages than I like. You can only cover a limited area, you can be overwhelmed by a much larger force, you can only picket so much ground before you are spread too thin. But hey, by the same tenet, you could pull off immenesly destructive air raids with high quality stealth aircraft, you could obliterate enemy ships with undetectable cruisers, so it all evens out in the end I suppose.

Interesting. For what it's worth, try this out - if you haven't already
