OOC: My personal rules

This post was inspired by the Vampire, elf , and space tech posts that are flying about. I am open to suggestions, but this is how I feel .
A special thanks to Imitora and Angelus for making some good points and to Iansisle and Larkinia for showing me you can roleplay without being a tech/magic wank.

I am thinking od converting my Nation to a "If it can't be killed by normal means, it doesn't exist rule."

What I mean to say is, I like space tech, but if I shot a missle at it and the deflector shields know it away...I don't want to play with you.
Spacecraft should not be more powerful than there RL counterparts, I.E. modern day naval craft.

If I shoot you point blank with a 9mm pistol in the head and you don't get hurt I don't want to play with you. I understand power armor, I use it to replace tanks in my nation in many ways, but I also limit the number that I have based on available support craft. They do have the advantage of being more manuverable but they have the disadvantage of not being able to carry as much ordinance and they are not as protective. Again work with modern day equivalents. I like walker tanks , but they are the same as regular tanks that can have thier legs blown off. Vampires , wizards and uberraces fall into this catagory as well, if a bullet in the head will not kill you, *poof* I don't want to play with you.

Magic : I love magic, I have several mage characters and psychics and such, can they destroy a nation, no. Can they hold thier own in combat as well as any normally equipted soldier, yes. Given time they could blow up a building, just like a good demolitions expert. However if you don't want magic in your RP and I want to play with you, I bring the demo man and leave the mage at home.

I do like cyberware, and enhanced biology (super soldiers) but I limit mine based on power. If I have a guy who is as strong as 10 I take out 9 other people in the army and increase his logistical needs to that of 10 people.

Comments, questions, or outright flames (no obscene language please) accepted.

That's more or less my view... And I love walker tanks, they can be very intimidating (mind you a normal tank can well and truly do that too ^^;;) but if they're going to be super-powered or whatever there's really no point is there?

Personally I don't like to see magic flying around cause I know very little about fantasy and it's annoying...

I have to agree with you. Right now I'm playing late 18th/early 19th century tech. A bit more extreme than what you're saying, yes, but it's great fun too. Brown Bess muskets, sabers, most destructive weapon known to man is a First Rate ship-of-the-line. . . a nice change of pace. Magic & space navies are all well and good, but I've gotten tired of space and magic was never my bag.

sounds good to me. My rules are similar. Except I don't really like playing with advanced space nations, but I have the tech to take out most.

On the more technical side, if you have an ECm that can fry all computers and screw all radios in a battlefield and render everythig useless, you're ignored.

I tend to only RP up to 2020 tech area though, personally I am in 2010.

I'd love to outright flame you (mm, sleep deprivation), but I'm close to being in agreement with you.
Except that I too am one of those less inclined to magic "fantasy" (the rest of this is reality? ) stuff as it generally can't be explained.. I try to accept it to some degree, but.. but this isn't about me, eh?

Ah! Sir/s et cetera, you should have attended the Union Crown Gala! I dare say the inventive Mr.Arnold's wooden highway would have made an impression.

Highest tech I have is good old Metal Gear Rex, or the WBT-1. It's the most futuristic thing I have. I don't work with magicy people or anyone that uses ortillery.

Fair enough, not much to ask.

Completely reasonable.

good points all, and you are most welcome! *bow**
*
There are a lot of things that I do that are pretty über, and I realize that. However, I play the things I play because I enjoy playing them. If you play with me, cool. If not? There are others that will. Furthermore, just because I don't go around advertising my weaknesses, it doesn't mean that they are not there. *smile* and no, I'm not telling.*
*
Anyway, it is always a pleasure reading your stuff, and I would love a chance to get into some more in-depth RP with you sometime.*

OOC:

Angelus,

Wasn't you it you who had the uber-large armada of space ships?
And have a big huge teleporting Wolrd Disk thing?
Isn't that considered as uber-tech? :?

Please explain.

Why yes, I have a large armada. *shrug* When one has a lot of time on one's hands, and very little need for mass quantities of resources, what else is to be done? Do note that very little production of new vessels has happened in the past couple of realworld months, especially after so many organic people have moved onto the Disc.
*
As for the WorldDisc, it moves. It has always moved, and that point was made very clear BEFORE it moved during a time of crisis. Even WITH the move, over 300million people died, and enough damage was caused that it took Angelus working in concert with several nations almost 15 years to repair it.*
*
Like I said, I have über things. I back it all up with strong roleplay, and if you do not want to play with me, you more than likely don't have to. Simple, really.

Why so defensive all of a sudden? :?
I didn't even have the time to say anything provocative
Not that I really was going to say anything of that sort anyway

Well, my RP policy is - as long as its RP'ed properly and thoroughly, its tolerated.
But I expect the same thing in return ;)
Such as my ECTOS stuff and other nice things I have

But, can you toss a couple of links to your background threads?
Iuthia

Hm... I pretty much comply with these personal rules with possible exceptions (explained for your benefit):

Powered Armour - Iuthia has about 200 men in powered armour and thats it... they get deployed using drop pods (explained here (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=63527&highlight=)). Basically I can only have 200 at any one time and they cost mucho mucho amount, I've only got one ship that can deploy them and every aspect of them costs me millions. Reserves are low becuase of the sheer amount of training required and basically I've never used them... they are my shock troops.

Hover Vehicles - A while back I had a thread covering this, but it got deleted a couple weeks back and I didn't save it. Basically they are highly mobile tanks that are also... well, highly vulernable (sp) if you shoot them with anything bigger then a rifle round they will take damage. They also cost a bomb and take resources from my Air Force allowance... they are never bigger then a tank either, so no giant floaty ships for me.

Guass Weapons - I've covered this so many times... basically Iuthia has replaced most military grade weapons with Guass Technology... or Rail Guns to give them a better name. Anything assult rifle sized and up has probably been replaced, with exception to missiles and things which arn't conventional guns. Again, I covered this in an old post which has died. However, Whispering voices did one of my favorite describtions ever of the damaged these things do. In a war situation however, their game effect is nothing more then the conventional version... I use them cuase they are cool, not to gain power.

Space Tech - See Homeworld... yes, I'm one of them, only I have pictures taken (screen shot) from my colours from when I played the game (blue and red like my national flag) as well as all the big technology taken out of my forces. We don't have:

Sheilds
Hyperspace (though we want to buy it)
Ion Cannons (though we want to buy it)
Super Capitol Ships (except the Carrier we built in the first place, I did something with TVC on that one)
Mothership
Gravwell Generator
Slealth Generator

Ahem... thats me explained for a while...

I'm not really being that defensive, I just get tired of the same people asking the same questions over and over again. Go on, ring that bell, one of these days it is going to break. *smile**
*
As for historical threads... I've got over 400 to go through, any in particular you want?

Oups...

As I say - defensive.

Let it toast anyway. Won't bug you today.

Just so that you know, if it ever comes to your asking me about my nation, I will send you do a Username search

Have a nice day now!

OOC: Well, actually, the fact that your people are AIs and don't need pretty much anything and that makes them able to build such huge armada could be considered as much godmoding as building such huge armada with normal people?

I mean - is it making a nation consisting of creatures that don't need anything and so are capable of building über thingies any better than having a nation consisting of creatures that need a lot of things building those über thingies? Both can be considered godmode, actually.

But no, I'm not accusing you of godmoding. The idea of thousands of ships completely ruins my hope of new nations being capable of being something more than flies, but I'm fine with it..
