IC: In the place of Here. A place where many people dwelled, of different kinds of people ranging from elfs, witches, vampires, dwarfs, orgs, you name it lived. Yet, the human race still pervailed until a few groups came along and tried to disrupt the balance. Now it was a battle between good and evil, white and black. The balance was causing chaos and the humans were recognizing what was happening. Some would help the humans others would harm. The battle would begin and the war would hopefully end soon.

Serenity, a women of mysterious powers, walked into a small cafe and sat down. A waitor came up and asked,"What can I get for you mam?" She did not look and the waitor shuttered again, while starring at her, "What what can eh I get you to drink, ya know something like ummm a soda?" Serenity glanced up and smiled. The man took a step back. "A mocha latte." The man rushed off and nearly tripped over a women standing by a table. Serenity laughed a low laugh. She was used to that reaction. She was a tall brunette. She had dark peircing eyes and they were glaring now. She was skinny, but very tone. She wore a black dress. It was cut low and v-shaped. It clung to her and went down to her feet. She wore high heals that could cut through any flesh or even metal. The waitor brought her drink and just stood there. "Umm I was wondering what you were doing after this? I get off in a bit." He was smiling at her. She looked him up and down and she noticed he began to sweat. She grinned and said, "No, thanks. I like them alittle bit more meaty." She laughed cruelly and he slowly walked away. She drummed her long pointy red nails on the metal table. She was waiting for someone.

Estario was walking through the city, his elven ears and features carefully hidden behind his hooded cloak. "It's not normal to walk around with a cloak this day. I think I'm attracting more attention dressed this way but, who cares, anyway if someone find me, I will be just another elf". But he was no normal elf, his silvery hair and his sharp features were showing his drow heritage. He was a half-drow, half-elf, his kind usually despised by his light cousins, and threatened or killed by the undeworld race. "Worst than being just a half-elf", he said to himself.

Serenity rose her head and her hair shimmered with the lights reflections. Her hair was a carmel brown and went down to her middle thoracic back. She brushed her hair out of her eyes and looked in the direction of the booth. Ohh one of those just had to come here. She rolled her eyes. They were always watching and seeing what made up the environment and always classifying. She never seen one actually have a conversation with another being. She almost wondered if she should go over there and talk. She smiled a smile that sent shivers up people's spines.

A short, thin man dressed in a long brown trenchcoat over a faded blue suit walked up to the Serenities table. He looked somewhere in his mid thirties and carried a small case in one hand and a wide-brimmed brown hat in another. The overall effect was to make the watcher feel like they were being approached by a character out of a 50's detective show.

He sat down at the table with no introduction and began funbling for a cigarrete, "You're Serenity right?"

Estario entered the coffe shop, looking for something to refresh his sore throat. "I'm far from Aelosia, so forget about a good elven wine", he says to himself.

He walks inside, until he find a suitable table. He sits, without taking off her cloak, pulling out a book from beneath his clothes, and starting to read.

Ja'nok entered the town warily. His head, hidden beneath a masive cloak, swiveled from side to side as he scanned the various buildings and shops along the road. Then he spotted her sitting in a cafe just off the road, exactly as she looked in the picture he'd been given. He was already half way across the street when he remembered that his Qualta Blade was back at his camp. He knew he was no match for her without it. He hated having to wait to capture her, but he was new to this land and his Qualta Blade would attract too much attention. He only a two weeks left to report her capture and still get full pay. Well, he'd just have to wait and watch.

Serenity looked up from her latte. "For your information yes I am. What is it to you?" She growled it. She hated being bothered by people with cases. She knew what he wanted, but hated to wait for him to ask. She noticed the elf sit down at a table and wished he would have sat down closer so she could be distracted instead of having to look at this man who dressed very old fashioned. Oh well, better make it look good. She smiled at this man and ran her finger over his case. "What's in the case, sir?"

Lifeform targeted is classified as 'human'. Gender: Female. Scans indicate high levels of caffine in bloodstream. The Devilish Unit designated 942 sat in the booth, observing his surroundings. His programing was male, which seemed to relate to his thought processes. 942 had been an unusual experiment by the Devilish, seeking to create an infiltration unit capable of operating without direct supervision from a Commander unit. Unfortunately, 942 developed morals, which disrupted his usefulness to the Collective. 942 was supposedly destroyed, but has since made himself adaptable with the inclusion of a prototype nanotechnology system that allows him to change his equipment at will. At the moment, he has equipped himself with a pair of Drone claws. Drone claws feature a pair of short claws acting as fingers, with a third acting as a thumb. 942 waits with robotic patience, amusing himself by identifying the various races gathered in the cafe.

Serenity looked at the creature again. They always thought she was human. She smiled mysteriously. Good thing they thought that. It was better for them to think that then to know what she really was and what she was capable of doing.

Unit 942 decieded to make contact with the female.

"Greeting: Hello. Unit Designation: 942."

Unit 942 wasn't quite sure what else to say, he'd had no prior verbal contact with any biological lifefroms before. Sure, he'd slaughtered quite a few, but he'd never been given the chance to discuss anything with them.

A shadow shot quickly over the roof of the cafe as a rapidly descending figure passed before the half moon and crashed into the alley behind the cafe. An explosive clatter of snapping wood, breaking glass and "Son of a..." broke the calm momentarily. And then the silence swept back in and all was again quiet, outside.
04-11-2003, 21:12
Outside, a figure stood up from the rubbage heap behind the cafe and stretched his limbs. "That was a nasty one" he thought to himself as he removed his black and grey pinstriped coat and, holding it up to the light, began dusting off debris. "Will you just look at this. Tailored Italian suit..." he was distracted by a figure out in the main road. He quickly stepped back into the shadows and pulled his arms back into the coat. A quick brush of his hand through his black hair put his closely cropped cut back in order. One hand thoughtlessly straightened his black tie while the other checked for the weapon tucked into his waistband in the small of his back. "Where am I?" He wondered. "And why?" He knew it made no difference. All that he knew was he was here, and that meant he had to be.

Estario opened his newspaper, trying to sneak over the pages at the strange conversation that was taking place not so far from him. "A droid, a clown, and a strange woman", he says to himself. "That droid looks like one of the ElfHunters of the west, better remain undetected", He raised his newspaper again, covering his face, waiting for the unusual conversation to begin.
04-11-2003, 22:31
"Everytime I take these damned jumps I get all foggy." he mumbled to himself. "C'mon John, what's the last thing we remember?" He vaguely recalled a bordello in some tropical latin paradise. "Rosey?" his mind flashed quickly through to that other dimensions events and his thoughts finally fell into place. "Rosey you thieving little tramp!" He reached inside his coat and realised she had lifted his wallet. "You'd better hope I never jump back to your world, honey."

He tried the backdoor to the cafe and found it unlocked. He slipped in past the storage room and found his way through the kitchen to the door leading out into the dining area. He peered through the circular window toward a table in the middle of the little cafe.

A droid, a flatfoot and a... His body seized when he saw her. He had a weakness for dangerous women. And at least one scar to remind him of every one he had ever crossed paths with. The elf caught his attention last.

"Definately not in the States." He concluded. "Maybe L.A."

Serenity looked at the figure. She smiled, "Well, hello there. Unit designation: 942. I will just call you 942. My name is serenity." Serenity extends her hand for 942 to kiss it. She looks at the mark he did not leave. Smiles secretly. She begins to laugh at the gentleman with the case. "Hahaha, I didn't know. Well, I suppose it is good that you are clean. To bad, I like them dirty." She looks over at 942, "Please, join us. There is plenty of room for more." She pointed to a chair nearby her. Serenity looked up and noticed a man in a pinstripe suit. Nice very nice she thought. She smiled and played with a strand of her hair. She rose her eyebrows at the gentleman and went back to her latte and took a sip. She looks at her company and asks, "What brings you all here?"

Ja'nok watched from the shadows as the man in the alley straightened his hair and checked his coat. "That's it", he thought, "first the man with the case, now the guy falling from the sky, screw not fitting in. He was going back to camp and getting his Qualta Blade." Slipping from the shadows, he walked into the cafe to get a bottle of water. It was on the way out, walking past her table, that he caught her scent. He could now find her anywhere in the vicinity. With that knowledge he headed down the sstreet and out of town.

OOC: My scent? What do I smell like? Is it good and attractful?
I still haven't decided totally what my character is, a vampire, a witch, maybe a goddess, any ideas for me? I do not want her to be a human, that is obvious she is not though.

OOC: Ja'nok is a Luxan(Farscape). He can track a person by their scent. Like a dog. I'd say your characters scent is probably flowery or perfumy with some underlying mustiness, to indicate long amounts of time spent in dark, wet places.

A vampire would work well.

05-11-2003, 15:07
OOC: Hm… I think I will have a small group of innocents then, the random occasional drunk, lost child and pretty much anyone I can come up with when I feel like it… I was thinking of adding one or two villains, but they don’t fit and I’d rather save them… anyways, I think the vampire craze is calming down a little now so I’m going to leave my vampires where they are.

Oh, and what time is it? Any descriptions of the Café we’re in? If not then I’ll do it.

Joe was sitting in the corner of the quaint café drinking his over-priced cappuccino as he read the local business news; it looked like Wombat News was up again for this fiscal year and the INN news channel stock was down… shame really because Joe had bought stock in it the year before.

Joe is currently wearing a dark grey business suit with a novelty tie with bouncing tiggers on a purple background. His face made him look young and his eyebrows gave away that he is concentrating on something. He is currently reading the stock lists in the hope of finding something interesting so he can get out of his boring job. He keeps in shape at the local gym and he drinks here at least a couple times a week.

On the other side of the café by the window is a young couple, sharing hot chocolate and staring into one another’s eyes with the naïve looks of youth. Both look to be in their early twenties and they are dressed casually but the girl has at least tried to look cute, her auburn hair is in a plait and she is wearing a pink fuzzy cardigan and light blue denim jeans. The guy is wearing a white short-sleeved shirt with a dragon motif on the edge of the sleeves and he is also wearing black trousers and brand name trainers, his hair is blonde and spiky.

Occasionally they look over to the odd people that have entered the café, but they are used to most of them because of the diversity of the place they live in, however the Robot is a new one and has earned it more then a couple stares from local patrons.

Joe isn’t paying attention to anything that is going on; instead he is engrossed in his newspaper and is currently crunching numbers in his head (if anyone wants to read his simple mind). The couple, Mary and Luke, are thinking of one another… though in different ways. Mary is thinking about how Luke is a nice guy, but wishes he would drop the gentleman act already. Luke is thinking that Mary is cute but he wants to make sure he doesn’t mess up. Both of them think the Robot is odd, but they aren’t paying too much attention.

Currently Luke is slowly placing a marshmallow into Mary’s mouth while she waits with her eyes closed.

OOC: Yay for innocents… now you have detailed people to think about if you want to smash up the place, adds to the realism of the situation because when fights break out in public places, innocent people get hurt… well now we have faces to those people! I will role-play their reactions to IC events and anything bad they may happen to them… which I suspect is likely… they have no pictures because that would be a waste… they are all human and they are all completely normal… for now. Who knows how they will react, but you can guarantee they are no heroes….

"Damn! She spotted you John."

He backed away from the window and surveyed the kitchen. Small, confined, and stocked with potential weapons.

John Canton was alot of things. Drunk. Womanizer. Killer. One thing he wasn't was stupid. His position had been given away. And it was an ugly position. The girl had seen him and he had to assume the preservation of his existence wasn't one of her priorities. He knew the droid alone could probably off him easily. John was in no mood for another trip to Hell.

"Fuck that." He said to himself as he patted his coat down looking for his Marlboros and a light.

A door opened at the back of the kitchen and a young man walked out tucking his shirt into his pants.

"Hey who are you?"

John lit a smoke and took a deep drag.

"Health inspector. Everything looks alright in here." He said as he dropped the lighter into his pocket and exhaled the smoke through his nose. "Don't forget to wash your hands." He pointed to the sink and started to walk out the back door of the cafe. "And light a match. Christ kid, what'd you eat?"

He disappeared out the back and slammed the door behind him.

Serenity looked bored. She wasn't hiding that fact. Geez these people joining her were lame. She thought maybe the robot might bring alittle excitement to the table, but she was making all the converstation. She frowned. Hmmm. She looked about the cafe. She hadn't payed much to the humans that were there. She glared, dirty little beings. She always had a hatred for them. Then she smiled. It was always fun to play with them. That was what they were to her play things and food. She noticed the couple and almost gagged as she saw the boy feed the girl a marshmellow. The girl was cute, but she knew what she looked like and no guy ever refused her. Maybe she could take him out back for alittle nibble and break the girl's heart. Serenity liked to pick and torture them first. She said to the company at the table,"Excuse for a moment. I will return in a bit." She got up and adjusted her dress. She walked over to the table where they were seated and asked the guy, "Excuse me sir. I work at the local clothing store, Abercrombie and Fitch. I am sure you have heard of it." She reaches into her small black purse and pulls out a small white card with writing on it. It was her business card. The boy nodded at it as he looked over it. "I come here usually on business meetings and to scout out new models. I was curious if you wanted to come with me for a moment to discuss the oportunities I have in store for you. Would you just follow me outside. It is alittle too crouded in here for me." She finally looked over at the girl and gave a faint smile. "How cute that sweater is. I think my grandmother has one just like it." She continued to smile and wait for the guy's decision.
05-11-2003, 18:32
John moved slowly out of the alley toward the main road. He kept a watchful eye through the glass window of the cafe. He knew the combination of the fluorescent lights of the cafe and the darkness outside would create a one way mirror effect. Glancing across the road he noticed a small pub with a couple tables and chairs outside.

"Hello, what's this?"

He crossed the road toward the pub, occasionally checking the cafe patrons over his shoulder, and took a seat facing the cafe near the open front door of the pub.

"Service!" He yelled through the pub door.

A young boy of around 9 came running out. The boy looked Asian. His head was shaved bare and he wore tattered black button up shirt and matching linen pants. He said something in a low voice that John took to be a request for an order.

"Beer"

The boy looked at him, puzzled.

"Cerveza?" John knew it was a long shot.

The boy cocked his head, still with a look of puzzlement. John stuck his thumb out and tipped it up to his mouth, mimicking a drinking motion, then half shut his eyes and, grinning, swayed back and forth in his chair.

The boys eyes lit up and, seemingly understanding the request, he shot back into the pub. He returned with a bucket of brown bottles and ice and placed it on the table before John.

John popped the top of one of the bottles and sat back, staring across the street at the mysterious ensemble inside the cafe. What the hell brought these characters to a coffee shop on the edge of the universe? He didn't know. All he knew was he'd have a wait before things started to unravel themselves, so he might as well get shitty. The only thing that worried him was the tab.
05-11-2003, 18:42
John watched the woman in black stand up and cross the cafe. He sipped some ale and leaned forward. She approached a young couple seated near the window and, leaning over, handed the young man something.

"What the hell?"

The young man looked up at the woman in black with his mouth hanging open as the young woman he was with glared across the table at him.

"This should be interesting."

He took another pull from the bottle and lit another smoke.

"Hm... could be a laugh" Said Luke. His retail job was getting him no where and he had always heard that models earned a nice sum of money for relatively little work... of course, he didn't think Mary would like it much, but he wouldn't object to her doing the same... would he?

Mary however, automatically didn't like this woman... she cut in during their date and was now enticing her boy friend away from her attention... what kind of man works for a model agency anyways? They usually end up homosexual or something like that... * Either way, she was giving this woman a dirty look, but she didn't want to push luke too hard because that may deter him...

"Can this wait for another time please, we are kind of in the middle of something" She said sweetly, she would rather deter Luke from this line of work when shes alone with him and away from people who could contradict her. However, Luke was flatered and he wasn't about to let his chance go...

"Surely we can wait a moment Mary, if I get a job as a model maybe we can get that car we always wanted." This didn't impress her, but she concided none the less, she did want that car... getting the bus every morning was stressful and irritating. However, she wasn't about to give up.

"Can I come with you Luke, for moral support?" Again, she smiled sweetly...

"I don't see why not... how about it?" Looking to Serenity...

Serenity smiled at the girl. She said cold tone mixed with sugar, "I wouldn't mind, but it is business and I see only that he come. We are in need of male workers in our store and he fits the description. I take my business seriously and I don't need a little girl following out discussion like a little puppy. I hope you can understand this. Would you bring him along to the gyno when you get your annual pap smear. He is a big boy and I think he can handle an interview. But I suppose if he can't be taken away for five minutes I will find someone elsewhere." She tapped her fingernails against her side and smiled at Luke. "The decision is yours, but I am sure you will not regret it."

Sam, who had been rumaging through the apparently bottomless pockets of his coat, finally, triumphantly brought a wad of papers and a bleeping electronic instruments on to the table. "My organization is in need of someone with your..." he looked up, "Oh, she's gone." He looked around, "So has everyone else."

He shrugged, and flicked a switch on the electronic instrument in front of him, bringing it to life. Three lights immediately winked on, bright red. He tapped the dials a few times to see if they were stuck, or if the background magical aura really was approximately 50,000 times normal effective levels. They weren't stuck.

Johns eyes followed the droid as it crossed the cafe towards the woman in black and took a seat near the young couple. He reached behind him into his waistband and discreetly unholstered his glock. He chambered a round and quickly slid it under a bar towel on the table in front of him.

"Looks like the shit's about to hit the fan." He mumbled and finished the bottle in his hand. He grabbed another from the bucket, twisted it open and leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. "Why me?" He thought and tipped the bottle up.

After Serenity finished her "offer" Luke looked at her in a new light... he may be young and he may be naive, but he knew a problem when he saw one... and he saw one all right.

Luke, being a relatively conciderate person prefered to work with people he liked becuase it made work that bit less boring... however, if he didn't like them the job would be less desirable, afterall, who wants to work with someone who is going to constantly look down upon his girlfriend, who is 23 and one of the few people he cares about...

He could see that Serenity was not a nice person... hell, she didn't even manage to hold her tongue and Mary was more important to him then a chance of becoming a model. Anyways... who wants to work with someone like that? Luke came to his senses and turned to his girlfriend.

"Your right Mary, this can wait for another time, I'd rather we get on with our date." He then turned to serenity, "if it can't wait then I'm sorry, but my girlfriend takes precidence over a chance of becoming a model... If you want you can give me your card and I'll call you some time, otherwise I'd rather just get back to drinking with my girlfriend."

He sat back down and passed the large mug to Mary who simply sat down and didn't say a word.

Serenity nodded. "Very well. I do apologize for interupting your date, but the opportunity is shot. I am just sad that it ended that way." Serenity had never been rejected before. This was a new feeling and it sucked. She glanced up and saw the pub. This was just not her day and she was not going to resort to being nice that wasn't her style. The moral of that story was the guy was blinded by his girl, which probably was a good thing. She contemplated on that one and what she did wrong and decided she wasn't about to change her strategies when they had never lead her wrong before. If it happened again maybe. She walked outside and across to the pub. She noticed the pin striped gentleman again. She walked up to him and said,"I would start smoking if I knew it would kill me." Her tone very serious. "You mind if I sit down?" She didn't wait for his answer and sat down next to him. Seeming the day she was having she wasn't quite ready for another rejection. My as not let it happen then. She wasn't much into getting slickered up with liquor, but she liked the atmosphere of a bar. She would just wait until that couple left and she could go back and talk with unit 942 and the man with the case. She reached for the pinstriped man's hand and grabbed it,"My name is Serenity, and yours?"

He was just outside of the town when Ja'nok realised he was still wearing the cloak. "Well", he thought, "if I'm gonna give myself away with the sword I may as well all the way" "Besides, it's not like its cold outside" With that he whipped off the cloak and started down the main road. As he walked he ignored the stares of passerby at his sword and his tentacles. When he reached the corner he noticed that Serenity was now across the street with the cloaked man. Walking over to the cafe he sat down next to the robot to keep an eye on her. "Hey, name's Ja'nok" he said as he took his seat." "What's yours?"

John was now shitty drunk and bored with this world. He looked down at Serenity's hand holding his, and then looked up into her eyes.

"Sorry sister. I have a rule against dating non-humans."

He snatched his hand from hers and grabbed the pistol from underneath the bar towel. Jumping up from his seat he knocked the table and empty glass bottles into the road and, aiming at the beautiful monster Serenity, began backing up and firing off shots.

The elf stands, jumping with an amazing speed, reaching Serenity in less than a second, throwing her to the ground, trying to put her away from the line of fire. He stands with a sommersault, his dagger on his hand. "Are you mad?, stupid Mon-Keigh", he yelled at John, red rage in his eyes "Put that gun away!, NOW!".

Serenity starts laughing. "To think he thought I was hitting on him. I try being nice and this is what I get. Being shot at. I can't win today. Being mean didn't do anything and being nice was worse. Hahaha. How ironic. Thanks for saving me I guess, even though his bullets would have no effect on me." She stands up and brushes herself off. She glares at the drunk man and pounces ontop of him. She easily grabs the pistol from his hands. Being drunk makes a person sloppy. She places the end on his forhead. "Now, don't you wish you hadn't picked on me." She smiled and pulled the flip back and pulled another. She pulled the trigger and the man jumped. She laughed. She had put the safety on. She got up and said, "Guns are just an easy way to get yourself hurt, human." She walked over to the table and took a sip of water. She looked withdrawn and she was frowning.

"What the hell's goin' on here?" John slurred while stumbling forward toward the two. "What is this anyway? Elves and acrobatic women? Let's get this thing goin'" He lunges at the elf and swings an overhand right at his pointy head.

Serenity looks at him and laughs. Drunk people were always silly and never really a threat. Infact this human wasn't even a threat sober. She wasn't worried that he was making his way towards them. She was certain the elf could handle himself and she knew she could. Just before the drunken made his way to the elf she extended her leg and tripped him. He fell to the ground, maybe that would keep him preoccupied for the time being.

John rolled over onto his back and propped himself up on his elbows to look at the pair. Smiling he threw his right ankle over his left and said "Okay you two, I'll just sit here and watch for now. May I have my Glock back, Serenity?"

Laughing, "Actually that would be quite fun, " with a serious look on her face, "only time will help the liver detoxifiy the alcohol." "Oh no you don't!" John twisted over on to his hands and knees before they could inforce their grasps. Slipping free, he got one foot onto the ground under him and lunged into a mad dash down the street. Looking back over his shoulder with a crazy grin he yelled: "You'll never take me alive!" He turned around just in time to see the steel light post he had run head on into.

Ding!

"Mom, is that the telephone mom?" a slow line of blood trickled down his forehead from his hairline as he slowly stumbled backwards, his eyes rolling back in their sockets.

Serenity watched him take off in a dash and get knowcked out. She chuckled. She walked up to him and wiped the blood off of his face. She stared at it and the hunger grew inside of her. She had contained it till now. She saw his veins pounded and her heart beat with his. She bent down and swung him easily over her shoulder and walked back to the elf. "Should we take him to the hospital? I am sure that is a concussion he has. Besides his blood is tainted with alcohol. I don't want it." SHe readjusted him on her shoulders and awaited for the elf's decision.

"And about this man, well, we should leave him in a lonely alley. If his destiny is to survive, he wil survive, if his destiny is to die, he will die. Let the fate choose for us".

Serenity smiled at his comment. It was quite odd of her to associate with elfs, but she was changing of the late. "Yes, I guess you may call me that. Hahaha. After so long being called things like this you just get used to it. Dead. We were never really alive, therefore, I don't think you can call us dead. I call it an advantage. We are weak and have the flaw of mortality. What does it matter that I am? Why ask even if you don't care?" She motioned for the elf to follow her into the pub and drop the guy off at the table. Then she walked outside and waited for his answers. They were always the same. She wasn't going to expect anything different from him. But she waited, she would always wait.

"Mr. Canton."

John opened his heavy eyes and tried to focus.

"Mr Canton, wake up."

John lifted his head from the table and, seeing a small puddle of blood on the table, touched his forehead with two fingers and examined the blood.

"Mr Canton, your mission was not drinking yourself unconscious." John looked over and saw the bald headed asian boy standing beside him.

"What's that kid?" He closed his eyes and sat back, rubbing his throbbing head. "When'd you learn English anyway kid?" He opened his eyes and looked back to the boy.

The boy stood motionless before him, staring stonefaced into his eyes. "Mr. Canton, we'd like to know just exactly what you think you're doing here."

"Oh, it's you." His face turned serious and he looked into the boys eyes with a flash of hatred. "Why don't you tell me what the fuck I'm doing here."

"You'll know when the time comes Mr Canton. Just know the agonies you've endured in the past will pale by comparison to what awaits you in the event of failure."

Rick Forester walked into the coffee shop. Short red-blonde hair, a comically lanky body and a nervous stutter made his human form even more uncomfortable for him than most 'Weres. Walking across the threshold, he tripped and fell flat on his face. He scrambled up, his face a red to match his hair.
"G--d---ed f---ing door!"
In a fit of pique, he shifted. While his human body was rather ugly, his Cervid form had broken the hearts of many 'Were women, and more than a few 'Were men. Gold-red fur covered a massive buck just as lanky as his human form, but with muscle and mass to fill his body out. A scar across his snout and an impressive pair of antlers finished up his looks. He looked around the room with nature-sight. Several normal humans, something that looked like a machine, and an undead were all barely visible aside from the glare an elf nearby gave off. There seemed to be a...darkening of his aura seemed the bast way to say it. Something about his energy hinted at an aura similar to drow, almost...

Groggy and aching, John walked out of the pub into the crisp night air. He wiped the blood from his forehead with a rag and threw it aside. As he walked past the Vamp and the Elf he overheard "you don't look like like the standard, common vampire. I'm not the common elf neither." and wondered just what in the hell a common vampire or a common elf was. It didn't matter. There was no time for mincing words now. He needed to sober up. He needed coffee.

He crossed the road in a haze. Barely looking around, he entered the cafe and made his way to the counter and took a seat.

"Coffee. Black."

He knew that something important had to be done. They wouldn't have bothered with possessing a child for just anything. In keeping with their usual method of operations they had sent a cryptic message through an unlikely channel.

The coffee was placed before him in a white cup. He lifted it and took a sip as he swiveled on the stool to survey the room.

"Every day those bloody wizards in R and D come up with a dozen extra theories and expect us to double our workloads just to compensate for them. Twenty years ago my job was chartering leylines and the movement in the magical poles. Now there are sixty types of magic, each one split into at least four flavours, with more being discovered every year. They're starting to claim that there could even be an infinite variety of magical resonances due to the infinite number of ways a group of thaums can operate. The last memo I got they were talking about splitting the thaum to create endless amounts of cheap, clean magic."

John was listening closely, but it did no good. He was sure that it was english but figured their was some kind of knowledge gap working against him. The waiter walked past behind the counter and John motioned for a refill. He received the coffee and took out a smoke. Lighting it and exhaling over his coffee he took a sip and tried to think.

Serenity grinned,"I was once told that by my nanna. Then the humans came with sticks of fire and killed her." Her eyes began to water then quickly dried up."Maybe that is why I have become so cold. I used to not be like this. But once something you loved is gone what do you do. Hmmmm...I don't even know what that means anymore. I hate them now. But she always told me there was something about me that was different than others of my kind. My kin was always jealous of the attention our mage gave me. I still don't know why. They always compared me to the mom of all. Maya, the first to make a made vampire. They say I look like her and have her qualities. I should have studied on her and found out." She glanced over at the cafe and looked up. The sky was getting dark. She smiled. In the sky shot some light and it looked as if a star bursted and small stars came from it. She looked over and said,"It starts now." She held out her hand and caught one of the fallen stars. It remained in her hand and intensifyed. She brought both hands together and then brought them to her mouth and she blow them the light went to the young couple and surrounded the two. They began to rise as if attracted to the light as if metal to a magnet. It carried them to the roof then brought them down. Serenity watched the whole thing with wide eyes. The couple didn't know what was going on by the surprised looks on there faces. As they came back to the ground their faces were blank, but there was a calmness to it. A mere serenity. OOC: To fit the format that Slutbum Wallah is setting up...

Outside of the bar and the cafe, small silvery objects began to fall from the sky. They were falling from the sky like raindrops... however when they hit the ground they bounced and wiggled. The density of this rain began to grow as more and more silvery objects fell from the sky like a storm...

Mary sighed at the sound of the rain outside. "Luke, it's raining mackerel again... we'll have to stay inside for a while, I don't want to get fish on this cardigan." She looked a little anoyed... it rained mackerel far too often recently. Like all rain, it was annoying but it made a nice sound so you didn't mind so much.

"Again? Damn... the forecasts said we wouldn't have mackerel showers for another week." Luke sat and stared out of the window at the bouncing silver fish. "Well, at least it isn't bedposts..."

"Mackeral?" John thought to himself as he looked through the window at the insane phenomenon outside. He snubbed out his cigarette in an ash tray on the counter and pulled another from his pack. Lighting it he turned to look at the small device again. "Well, I guess that thing's accurate after all."

He sipped a little coffee and took another drag. As he exhaled the smoke it formed the shape of a writhing grey serpent in the air over his head. John stared up with mild amusement. As he pulled another drag the serpent reared back like a cobra. John exhaled another cloud into the air and the form of a mongoose took shape. The two figures began circling each other preparing for combat as they drifted across the cafe.

Sam, meanwhile, was rapidly finishing his drink and packing away his equipment. "Yeah, yeah, it's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye. A magical background this enormous is never natural. Somebody or something has to be drawing this power here and I'm not staying to find out why." He paused a moment, trying to find a way to express the intricacies of thaumic resonance.

"Magic isn't just pretty lights and colours, it has substance, in a rather deranged way at least, and it affects the area around it. To use the famous expression, imagine a bowling ball on a rubber sheet, the bowling ball is the magical build up and the rubber sheet is this little section of reality. The "weight" of the ball distorts the sheet, and any marbles lying on the sheet rolls towards the centre, further distending the sheet."

"Now imagine the marbles are multi-dimensional semi-sentient predatory creatures, and that we have a large problem." With that, Sam rammed his hat back on his head and made to leave.
14-11-2003, 00:16
"Hold on a sec' buddy." John put the cup down and snubbed the butt of his cigarette in the ashtray. "What exactly do you mean by multi-dimensional semi-sentient predatory creatures?"

"Sir," The waiter behind the counter tapped John on the shoulder. "Sir,"

John turned from Sam and looked to the waiter. "Yeah, hold on," He started to turn away.

"Sir, you have an urgent phone call" The waiter tapped him on the shoulder again.

"Phone call?" John looked to the waiter with a perplexed expression.

"Yes sir. The pay phone near the restrooms. I'll show you." The waiter walked to a doorway near the back of the cafe and pointed to a phone mounted on the wall between the men's and women's bathrooms.

John walked to the phone and lifted the receiver, which was dangling from the phone, to his ear. "Hello? Anyone there?" There was no answer.

Suddenly his forehead was smashed forward into the steel phone casing. The metal cord wrapped around his neck and lifted him from the floor. John, struggling at the cord for air, looked around to see the waiter staring him in the face.

"Mr. Canton. The surveyor. We require his knowledge. We must absorb his essence. But first, you must shake him loose the mortal coil."

John, barely able to speak, managed to draw a painful breath past the steel cable and whispered hoarsely: "You want me to kill him? Done and done. Understood. For christ's sake let me down." The cord went slack and he fell to the floor grasping his throat and heaving deep breaths.
