Venusian Magnets
The Snel Race

We have come to the conclusion that the ancient reformation of the Venusian surface is responsible for its lack of a native magnetic field. When tectonic action halted, the mantle was prevented from cooling. The resultant heating of the mantle is likely what led to the cesation of core convection currents and the loss of a magnetic field. In order to restore the planet's magnetic field, a way must be found to cool the mantle and reheat the core. Until then, we must be content with either the induced magnetosphere bestowed on Venus by the solar wind, or an artificial magnetosphere.
If this plan is approved by Wazzu and/or Menelmacar, we will either begin installing the necessary equipment on our Worldring, or construct a smaller Dyson ring exclusively for that purpose.

Why bother? Just find a better planet. Xanthal prefers to spare itself the agony of terraforming whenever there's an alternative.

Another theory is that the lack of a field is partially caused by Venus' slow rotation. Menelmacar and Wazzu have been working on a solution to the rotation problem. If this fails to create an increase in the magnetic field, your solution is approved for testing.

The nation of Pilon fully supports the Snel's efforts and will send any help they request to help them in this effort. Our scientists agree with your conclusions regarding the Magnetic problem.

We have discussed this with Wazzu, and determined that the energy requirements are prohibitively high. In addition, the evidence that total rotation has any significant influence on a geodynamo is questionable.

The Wazzu attempt to increase the rotation of Venus by any significant portion has failed. It was discovered that the scientific team responsible for this attempt to create a magnetic field in Venus was poorly qualified and lazy. After the great costs already incured, the team was fired and blackbooked.
Another method is needed to give Venus a magnetic field.
The worldring is one possibility, but it is not viable in the long term as the Snel may wish to move it.
A smaller, built dyson ring is a possibility. However, it would take a lot of time and resources to build. It would also be itself, and therefore make Venus' artificial magnetosphere vulnerable to outside attack.
A network of satelites would be much easier to deploy, but require much more maintainance.
Cooling Venus is a possibility, but the effectiveness of its result is unpredictable. Further, the cooling process requires an absense of greenhouse gasses, making this a long term possibility.
The current Wazzu team thinks that the best option is to start with the Snel Worldring. This will help protect ships and stations in orbit as well as the bioforming planet below until a Venusian dyson ring can be completed. The dyson ring will remain either until the planet cools enough to restart its magnetosphere, or as the permenant magnetic shield for the planet.
This will cover all time periods, and allow for optimum cost/benifit.

The Wazzu proposal is approved, and should be commenced as soon as possible.

In that case, We shall begin fitting the Worldring with superconducting magnetic coils immediately.
We estimate that this will require a total of 1,005,310 kilometers of YBCO. Acquisition of the final product, as well as Ytterbium, Barium, and Copper, has been moved to the highest possible priority.

We'll focus our exploration efforts on locating sources of those minerals.

Wazzu can easily pick up any slack in the production of the finished materials/products but lacks signifigant mining facilities for the necessary components.

The nation of Pilon shall begin the construction process for these desired minerals on our Venusian Colony. We will begin to ship them up to you as soon as the mineral creation process is started.
