OOC: IPBM prototype - is this feasible?

OOC:

I got a rocketry manufacturing industry, and apart from a lot SLBMs, ICBMs and suchlike, I'm toying with the idea of manufacturing and Inter-Planetary Ballistic Missile. I've come up with the following specs, but are they feasible? Give me your input(and don't steal the idea, or I'll come round your house and eat your face ;))!

ADI-AS-400 "Apocalypse" Inter-Planetary Cruise Missile

Length: 60.m
Body Diameter: 12m
Wingspan: 20m
Launch Weight: 400.000 kilogram
Warhead: 1200kT nuclear, or customizable
Guidance: Preprogrammed autopilot control.
Propulsion: ADI-Aero2 5-stage liquid incorporating H2N
Range: 40 light years, give or take a few.
Accuracy: 10-100 kilometers of designated target continent.
No. of Manufacture: One.
No. of Deployment: None thus far.
Design: Zulu Warrior Projects.
Manufacture: African Defense Industries, Rocketry dept.

1200kT? Hardly worth the trouble. That's only 1.2 mT. The former USSR has already detonated 58 mT weapons. If they are interplanetary, make em worthwhile...

I have them, of course, mine use a Fission/Fussion reaction. Long story, basicaly, a massive Fussion reaction that creates a large amount of unstable elements that then Fission, giving of a 60 MT nuclear blast, pluss a LOT of radiation in all spectrums.

Conventional hydrogen bombs utilise a form of fusion for the vast majority of their yield... but you're right... it needs a fissile explosion as a trigger. Hence they are sometimes called two-stage devices.

You know this idea has been around...ooh, just about forever?

Less snickering, more feedback, you wankers!

Larger warheads, noted. But, does it looks like it'd work, otherwise?

There's no reason why it shouldn't. But I can't enunciate enough just how much larger a warhead ou'd really want to put on that thing. And with contemporary cutting edge research delving into the possibilities of anti-matter weaponry, yields in that order of magnitude don't really cut it. Sorry if i sound like a broken record...

Perfectly feasible, if you can put a satelllite in to orbit you could put a nuke with an engine in orbit.

Without FTL propulsion it would take huge amounts of time for the warhead to get there though. The Apollo missions took a couple of days to get to the moon, Mars would been a three year round trip, the distances are vast.

erm...

interplanetary ballistic missile...

you just build a interstellar ballistic missile...

cut down the range to, say, 5bn km (enough to reach pluto)...

a bigger warhead...

And another thing... it would be practically useless, to easy to miss the target (planets move, ya know).

And if it hits, not enough destruction.

But aside from that... feasible... and it`s not like NS tech has to be usefull, it just has to be there and it has to be cool... and a IPBM has more style than a giant laser ^_^

The missile has been modified and is for sale here:

I assume the H2N fuel(developed by allies of mine) could make it go FTL in a 5-stage fusion engine.

And I agree with Der Angst - it's definitely not the most effective gizmo out there, but I like it's style ;)

Nope - it will hit .999999+ c eventually, but that type of propulsion is strictly limited to c speeds. An important question is 'what's its acceleration and maximum acceleration time?'. Can it boost at 10 gravities all the way? Or does it carry just enough fuel to hit .2c and coast the rest of the way?
