Chimaean Wargames

*An article by Harold Kent-Smith*

It seems that the Chimaean government is keen to show off its heightened defence spending - now a little over 4 trillion Sils per year. Perhaps in an attempt to show a sceptical public where its money is going to, the Armed Forces has hugely increased its bi-annual expo.

On the books in the coming three weeks are displays of the latest cutting-edge military technology, such as the CR60, a modular assault rifle reminiscient of the United States' OICW. Favoured to bring in almost 600-800 million Sils in manufacturing and sales alone, the CR60 is well on its way to being one of the world's most top-of-the-range and lethal basic rifles.

The Navy, too, has got into the act. In a rather daring show of Naval prowess, the First Fleet (reputed to be the most powerful fleet in the Navy) and the Second will be practicing manouevers and engaging in wargames in international waters off the Empire of Baron.

No less than six aircraft carriers, four helicopter carriers and over fifty other craft, including the new Snuffopolis-produced Oxford-Class nuclear submarines, will be involved in the manouvers. Target craft have also been constructed specially for the wargames to simulate enemy ships and submarines and over sixty percent of the wargames will be live-fire exercises.

Meanwhile, the newly invigorated Chimaean Air Force will also be making a mark on the three-week expo. Over a thousand bombers, fighters and multi-role aircraft, most of them manufactured by Snuffopolis and Clock Hill to Chimaean designs, will be taking part in land and sea exercises on Chimaea and the islands near the coast of Chimaea. Precision bombing, SMART missiles, computer-controlled weapons systems and ground-support will be on public display for the duration of the expo.

So is this a recipe for success? Most definitely, taking into account the almost-permenant tensions in the world today. Chimaeans will feel protected, the military will have its best face on and the signal to the international community will be very clear: we may be known as a diplomatic upholder of democracy and freedom, but we have the steel and thunder to back it up.

The newest Chimaean basic assault rifle has been released by Chimaean Military Product, Chimaea's state-owned military contractor.

The rifle has a long and involved history. Commissioned in 2001 by the Chimaean government due to a need for a more effective, modular rifle that would enable a soldier to yeild the maximum amount of firepower with the highest accuracy and safety, the CR60 has gone through at least 14 revisions in the past two years.

Building on the cutting-edge technology of the CR59 and the reliability of the CR48 (which dates back to the Amerigo Slaver War), the CR60 enables the operator to have a fully modular and changeable assault rifle capable of three fire-modes, a built-in grenade launcher, scanning equipment, laser targetting systems and a whole host of other devices and functions, most of which the Chimaean government has kept a tight lid on.

Already the gun is in production and rumoured to be in use with some special forces teams. Almost twenty-four thousand units have been made and almost two million are due for production in late November. The CR60, when fully tested, is set to replace the CR59 from all aspects of the Chimaean Armed Forces by 2005.

Multi-role Aircraft Technology Reaches New Heights

For the first time in public, the newest fighter jet made by Snuffopolis Aerospace, Chimaean Military Product and Clock Hill's Air4000 took to the air over the Chimaean coast, showing off its incredible manouevering capabilities and its lethal weapons systems, in simulated dogfights and missile-runs over a sand-island near the coast.

The lean, curvy shape of the new fighter also made a show of its afterburners as it left the staging area for the final time, reportedly hitting speeds of up to nearly two times the speed of sound.

Made out of a need to replace Chimaean veteran Hawkeye and Vengeance-class fighter-bombers, which were beginning to show their age in recent operations and maintenance costs, the SC-42 AirHawk was designed by the Baron Intervention Taskforce super-powers, Chimaea, Snuffopolis and Clock Hill out of a request by Chimaea to level the playing-field against fighters being developed in other regions.

Utilising state-of-the-art technology, some of the best technical minds in Baron and a budget of almost four hundred and thirty billion Sils, the coalition of three major defence-products companies designed and created the fighter in two years, a period which has been criticised in some areas as too hasty. The Chimaean Air Force, Marine Force and Navy have displayed a solid faith in the new aircraft, buying almost one thousand units at a cost of thirty-two million Sils each.

The exact capabilities of the new aircraft are still classified, but some of the more open functions are an advanced computer-controlled targetting system controlled by voice commands and a virtual visor-shown heads-up-display, a Harrier-like ability for hover-landings and a new design to enable the aircraft to land safely on carrier decks. The question of whether this is a stealth fighter has been largely left unanswered from official sources, though it is believed that this is the case and the SC-42 has new-concept stealth technology.

The SC-42 is set to replace all remaining Snuffopolis-made Hawkeye fighters (dating back to the Chimae-Clock Hill war) by 2006. The sturdy and reliable Vengence-class fighter/bomber will not be completely taken out of service but is believed to be in line for an updated weapons and propulsion system.

That's one BIG rifle...

We're happy with out Colt M16A4s, thank you very much (though they may be getting some Tiberium ammo sometime soon, thanks to "acquiring" some Nod weapons during the Knootian War. ;) )

Do you think Syskeyia could do some military cooperation stuff with you or something?

God bless,

Syskeyia, if you DO get these bullets I assume you will be a good ally and share... :P

OOC: Tiberium bullets? Heh, I use mini-ECTOS strains in my bullets.
They hit their target and in ten seconds the victim turns into a little garden 8)

Tiberium! My goodness, what're you gonna shoot at with that

Yeah it's a big gun, not lengthwise but the bottom-to-top scale... lengthwise it's actually shorter than the M16; people keep forgetting that the M16 is a fairly long weapon lol.

and I designed and made that pic, in Cinema 4D! *random acts of showing off*

Sure, any of our allies can cooperate with us in military matters... in fact we might be making a limitted sale of certain technologies to allied states.

Look out of a window facing the beach in the Stanely Bay Resort during normal times and you'll see long, uncorrupted beaches, graceful palm trees and the uninterrupted vista of the blue ocean...

Look out of the same window now and what you'll see is a beach teeming with military and police personnel, tourists, prospective buyers, diplomats, bodyguards and ice cream vendors.

Why? The Chimaean Armed Forces Expo '03 has come to town and the previously uninterrupted vista mentioned above is now dotted with cutting-edge military technology from the Chimaean First Fleet. The immense shapes of aircraft carriers, destroyers, missile frigates, the latest in armoured troop transport ships, refuelling ships, command and control craft and many other shows of Naval power dot and shape the horizon.

The more futuristic shapes of amphibious landing craft and docks also clog the horizon, albiet closer to the shore. And for one of the first times, the low, almost portentious shape of the new Oxford-Class submarines also lay on the water, as if awaiting the order to sink and send its payload of missiles into an enemy hull.

The Oxford-Class is one of the biggest attack-submarines built for the Chimaean Navy. Produced by close ally Snuffopolis, it has eight faster-loading, automated missile tubes for a deadlier punch, as well as enhanced sensoring equipment and precision firing systems for cruise missiles... or perhaps missiles of a deadlier payload?

The rumours over this controversial launching and guidance system have spread like wildfire; in a nutshell, people are asking the simple question, "Is Chimaea going nuclear?".

Chimaea does not have any firm domestic policy on nuclear weapons; None of the Baron nations were party to GUDA or any other treaty concerning weapons of mass destruction. Although successive governments have shied away from the nuclear issue (though fully backing nuclear power), the current administration have been very active in getting the latest and most deadliest technologies for Chimaea's armed forces. The defence budget has risen almost to four trillion Sils annualy.

That issue aside, the Oxford-Class submarines are still one of the most lethal weapons under the water. It's lightly staffed and its bigger proportions means that construction and maintenance costs are kept to a minimum. It's exact specifications are under high confidentiality of course but those able to be released spell out a very capable craft.

There are also rumours that the Baron Intervention Taskforce are developing a submarine without propellors. Crafted mainly for stealth, this submarine will have artifical muscles made from shape-memory alloys that allow it to "swim" in an almost fish-like manner. The Ministry of Defence has not commented on these rumours however, and even without such a futuristic concept, the Chimaean Navy remains one of the most efficient in the world.
