The Xanthalian Imperial Armada two decades ago put it's hopes of correcting it's vessels' greatest vulnerability in the nation of Capsule Corporation and their joint fighter development project. Now that project has collapsed and the Armada must seek a new way to protect itself.
The Imperial Armada has since it's creation relied on it's vessels' slipfighter complements to protect them from light enemy craft; but with the ever advancing technology in fighters today the slipfighter, though an excellent fighter, is simply inadequate to counter the threats presented by larger fighters, a group of which can overwhelm the slipfighters and move in on a ship unable to effectively shoot down such numerous small craft.
The Imperial Armada has begun researching the best way to deal with this itself. There are three options under consideration.
1: Improve shielding on slipfighters.
2: Develop a light warship of it's own to counter larger fighters.
3: Develop an advanced cluster missile system for Armada starships able to home in on and destroy large numbers of enemy fighters while evading friendly targets and countermeasures.
