Merid Gains Freedom
Today the former colony of Merid was officially granted freedom by the Federation of Merida. For years an independence movement has been going on. We have a shared culture with Merida, but we have our own distinct lifestyle and political differences. Our people demanded control and we got it. The newly christened Republic of Merid is going through a transition of power from the colonial government to a soon-to-be-elected Congress. We welcome relations with all decent nations of the world.
Today Meridan Chancellor Frank Newhart had this to say about an independent Merid
Chancellor Newhart: We fully approve of the Republic of Merid. Today I met with the former colonial governor, who is acting as a temporary head-of-state for Merid. The Meridan government welcomes our brothers to the international community with open arms. We hope that the people of Merid will maintain their close relationship with their former motherland.

OOC: I know this may cause problems. I originally had this nation, but it ceased to exist. When I returned to nationstates I created Merid to copy my old nation; then I found out I could have my original nation revived so I made my new nation a colony. :)
