Thousands fill the streets as Imperium ends isolationism
Melkor Unchained
02-11-2003, 21:19
It was announced yesterday by several high-ranking Imperial officials that the Imperium is to end its recent adopted policy of isolationism, brought on by the ongoing construction of military facilities around the Jovian moon Io. Construction on the "Io Imperium" is nearing completion, and the government now beleives it has the funds necessary to rethink their foreign policy.
Something of an oddity for a nation considered by many to be a major world power, an isolationist policy was adopted several years ago by Lord Melkor in order to divert more funding to the Io Imperium.
As the announcement became public, revelers in the strongholds of Angband, Udun, and Ali'Staan, took to the streets. For many of them, the announcement meant that they would be getting their old jobs back, and for still more, it meant getting out of the country to staff the Io Imperium.
Parades are being planned in all three cities to mark the occasion.

On behalf of the Empire of Burninatonia, I am pleased to welcome Lord Melkor and his Imperium to the World of Fire. I have observed the construction of the Io Imperium from The Great City, and I am impressed with the results.
Should Lord Melkor and his followers need anything from me during their extended stay on Io, you know who to contact.
This is a grand day for Burninatonia-Arda cooperation, and I look forward to what the future will hold for us all.

"How could we miss this?" Walton asked his Minister of Defense, stunned.
"Technically, sir, we didn't."
"We didn't"
"We recorded it all, but our attention was diverted."
"Is it possible our attention is still diverted from important matters?"
"Possible? Probable. I would go as far as to say it always is. There is simply too much to keep track of, even within the Earth-Moon system."
Walton sighed. "Suggested course of action?"
"We need to keep trade safe, we need our own outpost there."
"More expenses." Walton said to himself, "And just when we have to start spending more on Venus for the magnetosphere problem, and for the new Wazzu and M2DF ships. Now we have this."
"Isn't life grand?" Meyer asked sarcastically.
"Indeed. Well, maybe we can turn this into a profit. I'll get all the usuals thinking on it."
"And me sir?"
"Draw up a plan for a defenible position in the Jovian area. Maybe somewhere where we can mine."
"For the excuse, or for the profits?"
"Both, it is about time we got a regular source of off-Earth hydrogen."
"Right sir, will do."

"Excellent."
Taking a sip of water, she moved to send out a missive, but paused, thinking better of it. This was, after all, Burninatonia's business, not NDA ... though, all in all, she was pleased to have yet another tie there.
"Most excellent indeed," she murmured, moving on to check on the progress of the crews she'd sent to clean up the rather massive mess of oil and such from the harbor of the Imperium.

Admiral Ahadi Il-Amir stood on the bridge of the massive command carrier, the Ali'Staan. Out the window, Jupiter rolled by slowly. Behind the Admiral sat Lord Alkanphel, his hands steepled before his face, staring coldly out the window.
Alkanphel cleared his throat. "How are the Fleets coming along?"
The Admiral smirked and slipped out of his reverie. "Quite nicely. Shipyards are still working at full capacity. The Third and Fourth are soon to be completed. With the addition of the Io Imperium to our assets...." his voice trailed off.
Alkanphel stood with a sigh, clasping his hands behind his back. "Admiral. I'm well aware of your hatred for Titan, for it is shared by us all. But we cannot allow your sentiment to cloud your judgement."
Ahadi scowled. "Archanos lost the Nargothrond because he did not understand their treachery. He allowed himself to be taken advantage of." Ahadi closed his eyes and clenched his jaw. "He made the mistake of trusting them."
Alkanphel sttod besidet he Admiral, turning his head slightly so as to address the man. "I assure you, proximity to Titan was not a factor in building on Io. It was merely an excersize in practicality. Lord Melkor does not expect you to use this fortification to attack Titan. Should you do so, your job--and possibly your life-- will be forefeit."
The Admiral sighed. "Of course."
Both men turned as Il-Amir's desk console blinked. A hologram of Il-Amir's secretary's face appeared. "Sir, we've received a transmission from Io. Lord Lancaster has addressed the Imperium."
The Admiral nodded. "Open line?"
The secretary shook her head. "No sir."
Ahadi turned back to Alkanphel. "Always a pleasure, Lord Alkanphel, but I've got lots more to do yet if we expect to get the Io Imperium to full strength. Some construction yet remains, and I still have to inpect the Third and Fourth."
Alkanphel nodded. "I'll be keeping in touch."

The ships sat in a slow orbit of Jupiter, watching the Imperium ship that was identified as the Ali'Staan.
Admiral Munro sat in the command chair, at her sides were consoles that allowed her to take over for any station, should it fail. On one a duplicate of the science station, showing the emmisions and power systems(OOC: power systems should be visable if you don't have some weird hull or dampening field around the ship. Emmisions should still be readable though). The other showed a tactical readout on the command carrier, showing what weapons and defensive systems the computer could recognize. "Very impressive. Melkor doesn't skimp on his fleets..."
The report in front of her was orders to contact and question the Imperium's presence in the outer solar system.
She walked up to the helm. "Open a channel." When it was confirmed open, she continued. "Ali'Staan, this is Fleet Admiral Telsia Munro commanding the CSS Doomslayer II. The Crimmond Impirial leasdership has some questions that they feel will be answered here more readily than through the redtape of Arda." She pauses for a second. "We assumed the Imperium Expansion Effort was concerned with Terra... with these large facilities on Io... we have to wonder if Lord Melkor has become interested in taking control of parts of the outer solar system."

IC: The council room was the remains of a battlefield. Around the entire room, people lay dazed. Prince Alexander was rythymically hitting his head into a wall, chanting repeatedly "No. No. No. The Elentari is probably going to ask us to do something."
Edmund Hyacinth looked at the half empty bottle of brandy. "Best... pour some more. Why not finish it?"
Duke Darquis and Cardinal Richelieu sat at the table, heads in hands. "Okay. So, he's reopened his borders. Things get worse when?" The Cardinal asked.
Kelly, the Prince's fiance shook her head. "Well, it was nice while it lasted."

Amir snorted as he listened to the transmission. Apparently, it had a number of his officers corps in stitches behind him. Ahadi turned and shot the men a look that could chill the water in the ever-present bridge coffee pot.
"Silence you whelps! If I am to make an answer, I cannot have the likes of you imbeciles rolling around in laughter behind me. That kind of slapstick is Reaven's act, not mine."
The men picked themselves up off the floor and saluted. "Of course sir. We'll be returning to our posts at once," one of the men said, obediantly filing off a second later.
Ahadi turned and nodded to his comms technician, who activated the transmission. Ahadi's face appeared on the Doomslayer II. "If you think that I'm foolish enough to divulge Imperial plans to one such as yourself, are sorely mistaken. We have no answer for your query at this time."
Ahadi stepped off the small dias, ending the transmission. Short, and sweet. Just his style. Indeed, if he was to be taken for a fool, it would be dangerous for anyone involved to make him prove himself.
