Explain your language and alphabet.

Espario
02-11-2003, 20:59
The official Esperi language is "English" or "Esperi English" to be more precise. But actually it is quite different from normal English as we in Espario use an other alphabet than the latin alphabet:

The Esperi Alphabet:
ø B C D F G H K L M N P Q R S T U I Z ' Ð

The ø is used when in British English the A, E, I, J is used. There is no capital ø, when you would use ø at the beginning of a sentence ' is used.

I replaces the "Y".

' also replaces A, E, I, J afther the Ø has already been used in the same word. It is not used at the end of a word: like in are you will not have ør' but ør
Ør'di = already

Ð or ð replaces "th" like in the (ð).

Soon more will be added, the Esperi government is asking other countries to post something about their, alphabet and language.

Sø'n mør wøll bø ødh'd, ð'sp'r gøu'rnm'nt øs'øsk'ng øð'r cø'ntr's tø pøst søm'ð'ng øb't ðør, ølp'b't ønd løngu'g.

Terraus
02-11-2003, 21:09
Terrausi, which is believed to be descended from a form of Continental Celtic common in the Iberian Penninsula between the 9th and 1st centuries BCE. The script is both alphabetic and syllabic.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-9/411680/Terrausi.gif

OOC: Actually, it's Celtiberian. My people are descended from the Celts living in the Iberian during that time period. In real history they were displaced by the Romans, Carthagians and Gauls. In my history, one of the displaced groups left the Iberian and ended up in Terraus.
Xanthal

Xanthalian is a close variant on Japanese (formal speech is nearly identical), but also has components from English, Chinese, and some other languages as well.
Xanthalian is written in a combination of Roman, Hiragana, Kanji, and Arabic characters, as well as some unique to the Xanthalian language (most of these express broad, subjective concepts).
Root languages of oral Xanthalian in order of prevalence:
Japanese,
English,
Chinese,
French,
Arabic.

Crystallian sounds exactly like English, uses the same alphabet, and has the same grammatical rules as English, but instead of the word THE, we use teh, which is helpful when writing on the internet.

All right here is how it works.

You take a sentence IE: My Cat Ran Fast.

And you take (usually the last word) and take the first letter of that word and put izzle after it.

(Finished Product) My Cat Ran Fizzle.

Now if it is a sentence like: My Cat Ran Away, you use the A&W and it is.
My Cat Ran Awizzle.

Aequatio

http://www.angelfire.com/mo3/terrapvlchra/conlang/tpscript.gif
It is polysynthetic, meaning that the gender, number, and person(1st, 2nd, 3rd) of the subject and object is marked on the verb, allowing free word order. Noun-verb and verb-verb compoundwords are common, allowing for extremely long words like fê|xomun@âûlkakûma, which means "I like very big butts."

Pantocratoria
02-11-2003, 21:21
The official language of the Holy Empire of Pantocratoria is French, although a good proportion of provincial Pantocratorians speak Greek.

The official language of Pantocratoria was Greek until 1712, when it was changed to French as part of the then Imperial Government's attempts to modernise the Empire, to transform it from a Byzantine-style state into a Western European one.

Eniqcir has multiple languages. The most common are the two Celdr dialects, Scyldranon and Celdranon (also known as Celíminé), and Serikats. A small minority speaks Kolipoki.

Celdranon and Scyldranon use nearly the same two alphabets, one runic, and one script. The transliterations are: a, o, u, e, é, [í for C., i for S.], [i for C, y for S.], b, c, cy, cw, d, dy, dw, h, ph, g, gy, gw, l, m, my, mw, n, ny, nw, q, p, r, s, t, ty, tw, bh, mh, nh, z. The use of diacritics, however, reduces the number of letters used in the actual alphabets to only about 13.

Serikats uses an entirely different alphabet, the transliterations being Consonants: a, e, i, o, u, b, c, d, f, g, h, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z, Þ, ð.

Further information, including samples of the writing and simple phrases, can be found here (http://timesurfer.linuxcowboy.net/artificialmyth).

Rejistania
02-11-2003, 21:40
The rejistanian official language is Rejistanian, which is a conlang, which mixes ligatanian, northern and southern mintanian and english influences. It is written with the letters of the latin alphabet, but does not use all of them. Most consonants are pronounced like in english, but the x is a sh-like sound and the j is sometimes spoken as j and after that an h.
The vowels are pronounced as followes:
A like in 'mark'
E longer as normally in 'America'
I like in 'eagle'
O like in 'order'
U like in 'soon'
Y like 'I'

Also some sounds are made by combining two letters: 'a-o' is for example pronounced like as in soul. Despite of this things, the pronounciation is perfectly regular.

Grammar is very different from english. Example:
Xe'isa rejistanha'tes. Il'isa suntes? is translated word by word:
I'go Rejistania'from. You'go from-where?

Engalish is a secondry languag in aracas as in 1900 we swiched over to proffecor Lawrence tong's malas languge it is the only langeg in the world that makes perfect sence everything spellt like it is said. this has taken a trmendous burden off our education system and deslecsics everywhere also if you do spell something wrong no one cares.

This dose unfortunatly take it's toll on our intenational communication as you may notis here.

02-11-2003, 21:44
Right now, English and Spanish are the official languages of Bedistan. However, with our recent plans to move out into space due to extreme overcrowding, linguists are working on a new Bedistani language that borrows some elements from these two.

Spyr
02-11-2003, 21:49
The official language of the PRS is English, which is the language of schools, government, etc. It is, however, a modern introduction, intended to replace the varied regional languages of the nation and bring the people into the modern era.

Both spoken and written 'Spyran English' are spattered with words and ideographic symbols fro these regional languages, and so there can be quite a disparity in vocabulary between different regions.
Nianacio
02-11-2003, 21:53
Here are some notes on unusual or basic aspects of the language of the Nianacianoj:

minimal number of words over 3 syllables
I/me: si
my: sia
she: shi
her: shia
it: ti
its: tia
he: ri
his: ria
we: ki
our: kia
you: ni
yours: nia
they: mi
theirs: mia
this/these: ini
that/those: iti
is: ati
The stress falls on the second-to-last syllable of a word.
Nouns without masculine or feminine suffixes are neutral.
The adjective can be put before or after the noun it qualifies as convenient, but is typically placed after.
Words with the first letter capitalized are proper nouns or polite forms used when speaking to elders & respected peers.
no articles
OVS (object first, verb second, subject third)
Front vowels tend to be used in words that relate to largeness, loudness, or low pitch, and low & back vowels are used for the opposite.
pitch-accent system with each syllable being either high or low pitch
A significant glottal stop is represented as a '
alphabet written in the sounds the letters represent in English: ä, ĕ, f, h, ē, k, m, n, ng, ō, p, r, s, sh, t, th, ū
letters look distinctly different, and the shape of each symbol represents its phonetic articulation
Letter names signify their sounds.
Words are generally similar to those of Indonesian, but are modified to fit the different alphabet and affixes.

Interestingly, when writing some words with Roman characters, we don't use the simplest spelling possible, even though that's how our language works. For example, "Nianacio" would, if being directly translated, be spelled more like "Neeahnahtseeo", "ee" representing "ē", "ah" representing "ä", and "o" representing "ō".
This is because we use the pronounciation of Esperanto when using Roman characters.

There are also parts of Nianacio that speak Chinese, Japanese, and other languages.

A Historical Account of Ancient to Modern-Day Dimeldish

In the years before the cannon's roar and the clang of steel on steel, the first sounds heard across the Dimeldish continent were of a language in development.

In long-gone days, the unintellgible accenting of Dimeldish in its earliest form ranged from a high-pitched squeaking to a low-sounding murmur. More than twenty-two different dialects formed up around the different regions. In the North, the people would say "mee-rao-ous" for "Greetings and Good Fortune to You!" while in the South, the most common form of greeting was "kaa-daar," which said simply "Hello."

In modern times, the majority of the populace speak the combined remnants of two forms: the Northern Keerah and the Eastern Mordahs. In the more segregated areas, the Old Dialects are still in use, but are continually being pushed aside for the more useful modern-day terminology.

((OOC: I'll make the language dynamics later, when I have more time to research.))

Hell Bovines

There are two main languages in Hell Bovines:

-Mootish: This is the native language of the hell bovinian race. It is composed by a series of death-pawning moos and wacky sounds and it is written in hell bovinian hieroglyphs, who happen to resemble by casuality, to those of ancient egypt.

Hell bovinian hieroglyphs

-Spanish: Brought by the spaniard colonists, Spanish is the second language of the grand duchy. Although a symbol of colonialism, the language has become increasingly popular due to its beautifulness and easyness to write (latin alphabet is more easy to print than the mootish one) and now, practically all hell bovines have accepted it and embrased it as a language of their own.

Well, I share on island with four nations, two of which I control, but I'll explain all four of them for you anyway...

The Island was settled by France, then England mind you... The Native Language of the Island was lost to time, as the Natives were all forced to Western Languages after colonization... A branch of the Catholic Church, and Muslims arrived at the island in great numbers after the Colonization, so Latin and Arabic are spoken often as well.

The Opressive Church: Most commonly spoken is King's English, although most residents also know Latin and French.

Your Nickname: King's English is the perffered language, and all residents must know it. French, Arabic, and Latin are knows by a small percentage of residents.

Overopinionation: French and English are jointly spoken. Latin and Arabic are looked down upon, as the country tries to distance itself from religion.

Pro Capitalists: French is the main language, and must be known by every resident. Arabic is also spoken, but isn't required.
Spaam
16-11-2003, 08:06
The main language of United Spaam (Spaam and East Spaam) is
Common, also known as English. Elvish (mostly of the Sindarin
variety) is also widely spoken. The Tengwar script is used for both
languages, as is the Latin alphabet, though Tengwar is the official
script of United Spaam. East Spaam has digressed a bit, speaking a
dialect of Common, with Elvish not being spoken as much. Here is the
Ring Verse in the East Spaamanian dialect:

Three rings for da Elven kings unda da ski
