Coup in Palestinian Lands

01-11-2003, 09:19
Just minutes after the final election results came in, Palestinian Security agents were intercepting intense communication between the two losers, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah and Sheik Ahmed Yassin. While not certain, many reports had been coming in stating that those two and their organizations, Hamas and Hizb'Allah were preparing to oust newly re-elected President Yasser Arafat.

Arafat, at first, was unwilling to do anything against these two organizations, as he wanted to see what they are doing. He did not want to "push" them into acting against him, because he knew that any action against them will push the new state of Palestine into a civil war. He prepared himself and the country for such a civil war, however.

Around the Presidential Compound in East Jerusalem, thousands of men from Force 17 and several extremely loyal Arafat soldiers were placed into defensive positions. In other cities, Arafat moved soldiers who were deemed politically unreliable and replaced them with pro-Arafat soldiers. Tanks were moved into several major cities such as Arafat City, formerly Tel Aviv, and Western Jerusalem.

After hours of monitoring reports and communications, Arafat went to bed. It was approximately 3:30 AM AST when he finally fell asleep. For an hour, he slept peacefully in his bedroom when the sound of gunfire awoke him.

He quickly got out of bed and started to make towards the door when his trusted aide busted into the room.

"This is it, Yasser. Hamas and Hizb'Allah... We must move to the secure facilities underground. The whole compound has been surrounded by them." he said.

Arafat nodded and followed his trusted aide to the basement.

The basement was full of activity. Soldiers and commanders alike were rushing around, reading reports from monitors and talking on telephones. As the commanders noticed Arafat they rushed over to him, giving him status reports.

"We're being attacked from all sides! Over 6,000 Hamas and Hizb'Allah are attacking."

Suddenly, the room went dark...

...and everything became quiet.

"Get the generators online!" shouted Arafat.

Some two minutes later, the lights returned, the hum of the computers returned, and the room was as light as it was before.

One of the commanders who had been talking on the phone before the black out picked up his phone but put it down seconds later.

"Landline phones are out."

Arafat sighed, looking about.

"Okay, look. This is a desperate situation, yes. But we must fight and we will prevail. We prevailed against the Zionists and we will prevail against these things."

"Now, the first thing we must do is to try and contact our forces in other parts of the city and country and get them to join us. Someone find a satellite phone and see what you can do. Secondly, I want reports. Reports on exactly how many men are attacking and from where."

Arafat continued to issue orders and the such for a few minutes later before taking a seat and watching the people work.

Just minutes after the fighting at the headquarters started, Palestine went dead.

All internet communications with the outside world were cut, government websites could not be accessed from inside or outside the country, all television stations from Palestine left the air in the middle of their programs, and the same with all radio stations except one.

The one that remained, part of the government's Palestinian Broadcasting Company, had reported that it had come under attack by unknown assailants, but the security forces defending the building drove them off.

Palestinians themselves had no idea what was going on. No one knew.

Voice of Palestine Shortwave Radio

"We have received the first word on what is happening in Palestine." says the announcer.

"President Yasser Arafat has declared a state of emergency because of certain Hamas and Hizb'Allah units, bent on taking power by force, have attacked the Presidential Compound and several other areas throughout Palestine."

"As of now, all soldiers are to report to their respective units within the next forty eight hours. A curfew has been ordered in all cities throughout Palestine. Everyone must be in their houses by 8:00PM until 8:00AM."

"We will continue to update you on the situation as more information becomes available."

"Long live Arafat, leader of Palestine! Allahu Akbar!"

Presidential Compund, East Jerusalem

RPG rounds slammed into the walls of the Presidential Compound as men from Hamas and Hizb'Allah advanced across the street and to the walls of the huge compound.

Force 17 soldiers had been firing their RPG-7's and AK-47's from the windows of the four-story compound, but they had taken heavy casulities as the enemy brought in rockets of all types and fired them into the compound.

Hizb'Allah and Hamas appeared on the verge of victory. They had captured the area around the compound and had about a 2:1 advantage in men.

Down the street appeared a column of T-72 tanks that were advancing toward the compound. Neither side knew if these dozen or so tanks were on their side or not.

It was made clear a little later. Stopping a few feet from the compound, the tanks fired. Fired on the Hamas and Hizb'Allah positions. Within minutes, the fight was finally over. The Hamas and Hizb'Allah soldiers fled.

After six hours of brutal fighting, the 2nd Armored Battalion of a Force 17 unit arrived to support the beleagured defenders of the compound.

At approximately 11:00 AM AST, President Arafat gave a speech that was broadcasted on the newly recaptured Palestinian Satellite Channel and the one remaining radio station.

Arafat's voice was broken and he looked shaken.

"We have been attacked by traitors! Hamas and Hizb'Allah must be destroyed! All Palestinians must unite!" he said.

"The government of Palestine calls for the support of the international community in prosecuting these rebels to the end!"

"We will win this war. We will destroy these rebels."

Seeing their chance for a 'Israel' once again, the large population of around five million Jews have openly declared their resistance to Hamas, Hizb'Allah, and the elected Arafat government.

Former IDF soldiers have begun attacking Palestinian units in the cities and in the still illegal settlements in the West Bank and Gaza.

A radio station setup by these rebellious units, named the Voice of Israel, took the airwaves calling for a rebellion by all Jews worldwide. It asked all Jews to return to Palestine and help fight the glorius battle to re-establish a state of Israel.
