LOST PLANET ASSOCIATED PRESS RELEASE

THE LOST PLANET
31-10-2003, 05:29
The Nomadic people of the Lost Planet, having recently arrived and settled in the hinterlands known as Schrodinger's Cat, wish to acknowledge and give thanks to the United Nations for granting them admission into their most auspicious organization. An informational packet was distributed to all press corp. in attendance at this news conference giving basic and ancedotal info. on this developing country with 8 million inhabitants. The country is run by a multi-party parliment commonly refered to as the Grand Peleton or simply the Peleton by the populace although the official title is the Federal Parliment. This is a nod to the county's obsession with cycling, the national and most popular sport. Although Automobiles are becoming more common, Bicycles followed by public trams and buses are the main methods of transportation in urban and suburban areas. One year compulsary service in the Combined Armed Services (CSA) is required of all citizens upon reaching 18. The CSA has very little high tech or expensive equipment but is suprisingly well trained and equipped (small arms are manufactured locally using simple and rugged designs) reflecting the county's can-do attitude and penchant for coming up with low-tech and innovative ways to solve the problems facing a modern society. Education levels are high and political and philisophical debate is a common passtime. The region is peacefull and the country has not been involved in armed conflict since the inception of the current government. The official Government news agency is the Lost Planet Associated Press, an independent organization of newspapers and broadcasters, and all official press releases shall be through the LPAP.
