Oglethorpian man listens to 'Ride the Lightning' 334 times in a row
Oglethorpian man of Villa Arica, Porlamar listens to Metallica's 'Ride the Lightning' 334 times over
VILLA ARICA, PORLAMAR (PT) -- The overseeing citizens unplugged the CD player from the AC outlet, and the man of 32 let out a sigh of relief after listening to 'Ride the Lightning' by Metallica 334 times in a row -- or the equivalent of listening to the song for an entire day and a half.
Newspaper and TV interviewers on hand attempted to get a word out of the man, by now curled up on a couch; all he was heard saying is "burning in my brain, I can feel the pain..."
Critics didn't think he could do it. His family thought he was mad.
Hell, the whole country thought he was mad.
It does mark the longest anyone has listened to 'Ride the Lightning' in a row though, the last record-attempt topping out at 224 times consecutively -- only two more playings of the song short of the one full day mark.
The man of 31's name is Randy Guadalupe, native of Villa Arica -- and avid Metallica fan. His family doesn't think he'll listen to Metallica again for a very long time.
"I'd be tired if I listened to that song 334 times over too," said one passerby who witnessed the feat made by Guadalupe. Critics didn't even think he could make it past the former record holder, Jeremy Killough of Sheffingham.
"He looked so weary, as if he were already tired of the song. Then I went to bed, and when I came back, he was still there listening to the song," said one judge.
Rules for the "competition" include the maximum sleeping time of five hours -- it is widely accepted that even during sleeping, the brain is subconciously taking in the message of the song. As such, this listening time is counted in the total of times over the song was listened to and the total listening time.
His family continually fed him and nourished him during the duration of the entire day and a half -- Guadalupe, for his feat received nothing more than a 2,000 Pachinko Credit cash prize and recognition in the "Really Big Book Of Stupid Records," it's 616th edition soon to be released to the public -- with Randy Guadalupe listed as the record holder for "Most Times Listening to Ride the Lightning" -- among such songs as "Won't Get Fooled Again" by the Who and Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond."
More on Guadalupe's condition following the Metallica marathon.
