Omzian Presidental Residence
2:09AM, Near Osaria

A group of black sedans, arrived at the dark, and vast Presidental residence. It is dark, so indeed, the sedans look unusual. The escorts --- several armed military Humvees, makes this even more unusual. But it is not unusual to the Omzian government --- after the military coup in 1989. And indeed, inside, were high ranking military officials, mostly from the Omzian High Military Authority, the military authority who governs the government.

First one to step down from the Sedan --- license member MA-223-89 CP --- is Lt. Gen. Yankze Haragas Lanpa, one of the top officials from the Military Authority, and a member of the coup in 1989 against Oma Zee and the previous Omzian President Earuage Ukan. Dressing in a black military suit, he was then followed by several aides, also wearing miolitary suits. The moon light shines on the metal badge on his chest: Omzian Military Authority.

Slow walk. Finally, Lt. Gen. Lanpa stepped to the front of the door. He pressed a red button: Emergency. "We need President Earuage Ukan here, immediately!", he ordered without mercy.

A maid heard the officer. Obeying him, and the president's previous orders, she went to the President's bedroom. Then, she pressed another red button, and said, "President, it is time. The Military Authority is here."

The President, barely awake, opened his eyes. Even he was barely awake, the messages triggered the long, unforgottable memorys about the military coup: November 8, 1989. When the military controls the Republic. For a few seconds, he got up from his bed. "Mrs. Kansas, thank you. The military authority is here...", he said, trembling.

"Where's President Earuage Ukan!?", Lt. Gen. Lanpa ordered again, this time, with an even more brutal voice. "Get him here immediately!" Just at that time, the President, in his nightgown, opened the door. "Lt. Gen. Lanpa... Nice to see you, comrade," President Ukan, said while he couldn't believe what he just saw.

"About time, Ukan," Lt. Gen. Lanpa changed his tune, to a more "humourous" one. "The Omzian Central Military Authority announce, you are expelled from Omzian Democratic Republic Leadership. You will go to exile in an unknown residence in the suburbs. However, it is not a gulag, nor a jail. You will stay away from the public, while you live in a house, similar to this one." A sudden wave of sadness, anger, fear, and shock came to Earuage Ukan's body. For these years, he was loyal to his top ranks --- the military. The military liked him, or as it seemed. He simply could not believe this. But, he have to obey --- as there's a gun pointing at this head for these past 16 years --- since the military coup.

"Comrade Lanpa...," Ukan replied, with fear. Wthin a few seconds, he regained his mind. "It is sad, but I understand. I fully obey."

"Good, Cormade Ukan," Lanpa replied, in a cold tune. "Now, I will give you a pen, and sign this," he said defiantly, while handing Ukan a paper: Document X2-28388-EART2 was the only title. "Sign... there," Lanpa directed, as he pointed the small space, with Signature of Comrade Ukan, written below. Earuage Ukan complied, and signed the paper. Earuage Ukan, President of the Republic.

Lt. Gen. Lanpa, seeing the job done, turned away, and directed his aides, "arrest Comrade Ukan. Do not brutalize him, do not torture him. This is not a normal prisioner. This is a political prisioner."

Earuage Ukan is immediately exhausted. Thinking nothing, his mind was full of blackness. His reign has ended. The people has chosen him, but the military took him away. Why, why!?, he questioned the blackness of his brain. he know that the military won't put him in jail, but he know that his power is ended.

Only a few minutes later, the sedans were gone. Earuage Ukan, is nowhere.

A group of military officials sat in this dark room of the office. This is the following day, exactly 1 day and a quarter from President Earuage Ukan's arrest. The public has not known about this, nor the meeting, and the plot. The meeting was composed of only 4 officials --- and 2 aides. Lt. Gn. Lanpa, the person who masterminded and ordered the arrest, was there, sitting in a comfortable, heated chair in this snowstorm outside.

Lt. Gen. Lanpa grinned, then finally spoke. "Mission completed."

Busy evening news. International news, local news, sports, entertaiment, weather, and even science and technology. The usual propaganda is there. But, the silence of the normal, state --- or rather, military, controlled media.

The news reporter, a young and beautifully-looking woman, dressed in a blue suit, began the news. "Top story, Omzian President Earuage Ukan has suddenly resigned because of illness and sickness reasons. The President privately announced 2 days ago that he has a form of cancer, and will resign because he is too ill to continue his duties. But, President Earuage Ukan will likely be housed in a hospital for years, due to his other illnesses beside his current cancer. We wish him well.

The Omzian Central Military Authority is controlling the Republic as President duties temporatorily, until a emergency refrendum and President Electon is held. Please stay tuned for more infomation.

"Of course, very successful mission," Lanpa's aide, Major Yankze Ganpae-Kansa chuckled. "This should teach Ukan for badmouthing the military. After all, we do have a gun pointed at his head."

"Well, true," Major Truman Franc, another major offical of the Central Authority, said in a normal tune. "But, you gotta remember, there's the downside: the media will know. As long as this is kept in our 'Ukan is sick' script, it should be fine, comrades. Afterall, we control the media, not the Socialist government. If they badmouth us, it is a deal for them. Anyways, if any officers leak these infomation, he or she shall eb arrested without a trial."

"Agreed, Comrade Franc," Lt. Gen. Lanpa lied on his recliner, and said comfortably. "We'll assure, no one knows our plot. So, another badmouther gone. Ukan will be staying at the 'Paradise Resort' at the Northern Miountains for the rest of his life, no questions asked."

However, the ever-quiet Colonel Qwans replied. "This is a democratic country. We are governing a democratic country. Soon, they'll revolt on us."

"Revolt?", snorted Lanpa. "Yes, we know this is a democratic country. But, badmouthing gets Ukan himself in the Paradise Resort. As long as these people don't do these kind of things, we'll respect them. Ukan got his punishment. By the way, we'll get the presidental election up and running as soon as possible."

"Very good," Qwans answered. "The plot will be successful. In the meanwhile, keep the work going." As he finished this, he got up from his chair --- so did everyone else, including Lanpa. "Good meeting."

"Good meeting," they all answered in unison.

Lanpa is the last person to finish. "Next time."

OOC: nice. But of course we suspect nothing.

IC:
The resignation of Earuage Ukan had been in the Knootian news, though it was not seen as unusual. Even though the Omzian New Democratic Party was more popular in Knootoss, they had no quarrel with Socialists. After the general elections, the ministry of foreign affairs and the Prime Minister sent out a message of congratulation.

The Knootian government congratulates Honjak Ukan with his election as the new Omzian President. May his government bring the people of Omz happiness and liberty. We are saddened by the sickness of former president Earuage Ukan and wish him well.

We hope that the existing friendship and cooperation between our two Democratic Republics will continue under this new leadership.

"Now what I want to know my friends, is why the f*** the f***ing Knootian Mafia is stealing my f***ing cut."

"Well Jimmy, they were a little pissed off at your quick wacking of their family head and...."

The door opened, a henchmen walked through.

"Send them the f***ing complimentary flower basket and the f***ing telegram saying we would be willing to do business if they kept of our f***ing backs."

Agent John Ferryman of the Federal Inteligence Agency (rough equal of CIA or KGB) looked out the window of Free Pacific States embassy. "Just great" he thought "a new leader. I have to reastablish good terms, and reastablish all my contacts, cause the old one's might be loyal to the new president. Hmmm...cancer...sucks for him..and me. Oh well, my works cut out for me...and I doubt there's anything up, so it's probably going to be boring".

He then sat down, picked up the phone, and started setting meeting dates.

We thank our friend, Knootoss's concerns and wishes.

However, because of the entrance time of Honjak Ukan is 7 months close to another major General Election, Honjak Ukan is now replaced with gagarin Vansare, of the New Democratic Party, after the 23rd General Election (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1999746#1999746) of Omzian Democratic Republic.

Earuage Ukan is however, still in hospital. Iti s believed that he will recover after a few years.

Oma Zee Central Hospital, Osaria Downtown

Another boring day for the hospital administration: Dr. Vaugas Janue, and Dr. Garnard J. Langley-Hanue. But their topic of the day: Earuage Ukan in their hospital?

"Something tells me this 'Earuage Ukan' is not the actual one, it seems. What do you think?", Dr. Janue asked, to initate this conversation. Indeed, it has been the conversation of the hospital these days. Sure, it seems exciting to have a President in their hospital, but it doesn't seem to be the actual President.

"Well, I'll tell you this: the governments are all about mockups these days," Garnard replied with a plain tune. "I doubt this Earuage Ukan is the President anyways. The government is all about secrecy these days. Doesn't bother me," he chuckled. "As long as I don't get in this, the Secret Police won't arrest me."

"Point made," Dr. Janue said while sipping a cup of green tea. "Say, who is this Earuage Ukan 'replacement' anyways? Someone they grabbed from the streets?", he joked.

"You are asking me? If they didn't grab him from the streets, a village then. Weird way to find a replacement, if it isn't Earuage Ukan. Now... Lunch time," Garnard commented, as he looked at the clock: 12:20. "I heard today they are serving fried meatballs and hamburgers."

"Very well, we'll continue this conversation later."

But indeed, it will not be long until the public finds out that the real Earuage Ukan is in a remote village area, instead of the usual hospital. Despite the military can keep their classified infomation, the Central Military Authority --- ironically --- can't. The Authority know that, they will find an excuse --- a "genius" excuse.

Agent Ferryman sat back at his desk, closed his eyes...and calmed down. Hard as it was, he needed to stop worrying so much. He would get new contacts...a new information net. Sure, he had had 34 informants in the government a week ago, and now only had 5, but that didnt matter. He had lost all his government guys, and most of his usefull non government guys. Something fishy was going on. Everyone seemed more scared to talk ever since the president fell into the worse stages of cancer. And the new president....Ferryman only had one informant in his administration...it was horrible. The intelligence officer-in-command for the area was also all over him about his having lost contacts. But then, he was going after all four of his agents, not just Ferryman. Anyway, he needed to find out what about the president's becoming sick had made his contacts freak. And there was only one person who could tell him the truth. A doctor. He needed someone in the hospital. Sure, he knew many of the doctors there, but who could he trust to ask? "Oh well" he thought, turning on his computer. "Maybe I'll find a name I remember...and if not...I'm in as bad of straits as everyone else here at the embassy". He scanned up to Dr. Janue. He had met the man a year ago at some function held at the hospital. Hmmm...maybe he could make contact with Janue......maybe not. He'd have to think it over.

Not trying to burst your bubble, FPS, but 34 infomats!?

Perhaps you could explain how you got them in, as immigrants in Omzian Nation needs to stay in there for 5 years, plus passing exams? Inserting infomats into governments is not something that you just claim :P

I'm not saying that it is impossible to have infomats/intelligence officers/etc. in my nation, but I doubt that you can just claim that you have so many infomats there.

IC:

Recent news suggests that Former President Earuage Ukan will be sent to a rural area in the Northern Mountains region to receive "special treatment", upon his request. The Northern Mountains is his birth place, and for superstitous and other reasons, he will return there to receive treatments.

That is all.

"Paradise Palace", Unknown Location in Northwest Grasslands

The Former President Earuage Ukan is well-protected in this house. Other rich people also lives around him in this small village -- as Ukan himself as described as a "retired CEO from a large industrial business". Or at least, what the military say. However, one thing made the neighbors wonder --- why so many military Humvees and bodyguards here? And in these past months, they've never seen this "businessmen" getting out Seems very suspecious.

Indeed, Earuage Ukan is under an umbrella of protection. Press were immediately shoved away from the area, aircraft overflight is rear. No one could step near the residence --- without a large fine, that is. Even people with binoculars couldn't see what's in that residence. This makes a barreir for the outsiders, and the insiders.

Earuage Ukan stood in his living room --- a huge room. Artcrafts, medals, coffee tables, even a large screen hang-over TV. He is prohibited to go outside. "My my my, what the military has bring me here," he thought.

He pressed a red button above a message reads "Communication Box", and said, "could someone switch on the news for me?"

In return, a bold voice over the speaker said, "yes. Do not watch too long."

Earuage Ukan cared about the invasion. He cared about the people. But, despite this, he is placed undeer house arrest. Without charge. WIthout trial. And without diginity.

Agent Ferrman wasn't happy in the slightest. Since the war had started, everything had been going down hill...not that it hadn't been going downhill since President Earuage Ukan got cancer. He was down to 20 contacts, and wasn't even allowed to research the war.

That's right, he had been assigned to the domestic portion of affairs during the OMZ war, so while the rest got to go on covert ops missions and see troops moving around, he was researching the president's cancer, seeing if FPS doctors could do anything about it. This wasn't exactly what he had been hoping to accomplish when he joined the Free Pacific States Intelligence Agency (FPSIA).

He had finally remembered to contact that doctor at the hospital where Earuage Ukan was being treated, and was now typing an e-mail to the man.

Dear Dr. Janue
Hey, its John Ferryman, you met me last year at the hospital blood drive? We had a conversation about types of blood storage? Just been awhile, thought we could go do something...it's been getting kind of dull here at the embassy. Anyway, e-mail me back, or call me at the embassy. Hope to see you this week. -John Ferryman, Diplomatic Attache

After typing the message, he sent it, and started doing other random paper work. This job actually WAS getting kind of dull...

"Hmm, must be some new email," Dr. Janue browsed his email inbox on his desktop computer, after a small shower in the afternoon. He have a week off, for various reasons he doesn't even know. "That Ferryman... Guess he sent me some email..."

He tapped the button of "Open" on his screen. The window opened, to the email. "Greetings John Fe...," he said to the voice-recongization word processor as he lied back on his recliner.

Greetings John Ferryman,

It has been a while when I contacted you. I've been wondering where you are anyways, I thought it might be that you have returned to your country. So seems you are still here, good friend. Indeed, we did have a conversation -- and debate about blood storage. Good times... You are still interested in medicine? Still doing fine?

Anyways, time gone by fast... Earuage Ukan was just gettin' out of our hospital, or at least, it is someone named Earuage Ukan. Was good to accomdate the President. Now we are onto this invasion, busy times. Hospital's having busy times these days before and during the invasion, heard that the enemy forces still hasn't even made it outside of Honjaksgrad, as you know. We just had another drill of evacuating into the bunker, ironic at a modern apartment at the Osaria suburbs. Anyways, have something new or concerned about, email me back.

Thanks and respectfully,

Ferryman couldn't believe it. The doctor not only had responded, but was friendly, AND new about the president. Now, at last, he had something to do! He started typing a reply to Dr. Janue.

_________________________________________________________

Dr. Janue,
Yea, I'm still interested in medicine, in fact, I'm currently taking some courses from the embassy medical staff (small as it may be) on medicine. No, I wasn't back in country, but my work just overwhelmed me. If you remember, I'm in the file procesing division of the embassy....also known as the paperwork division, and it wasn't untill this week that I've gotten any time off. The new war has caused an unbelievable number of transfer requests out of Omz, and so its been only me in here since the first signs of a war appeared.

Enough about me though, how are things with you? I mean, getting to treat the president? Is he going to be alright? We've all been worried about him over here at the embassy...most of us have met him personally, and it's just such a shame, he was a great man, I hope he survives. By the way, if you don't mind my asking, what did you mean by your saying "or at least, it is someone named Earuage Ukan"? Message me back!

__________________________________________________________
Ferryman felt pretty good. He hadn't really lied at all during the e-mail (he was actually taking some lessons in the medical area from the embassy doctor....after all, there was nothing else to do up untill today, so why not gain a few skills), and he was actually happy about geting to speak to Dr. Janue again. He was a great man. Most of all, though, he was happy to know he might have found an interesting lead into President Earuage Ukan. What could the doctor of meant in his last e-mail?

IC:

Ah the smell of coffee..., Dr. Janue wearing his working clothes sat in his office during lunch. Sipping a cup of "ice coffee", he checked his email again -- as usual -- on his venerable laptop. It is that Feeryman again...

Perferring privacy, he typed the message in instead -- something he hasn't done in... Years?

"Greetings Ferryman,

Very interesting about the news of you are interested in medicine. Very good, what do you plan to be once you are a graduate? There are a lot of options... I'd say that going to the hospital is the most 'fun', but if you want big bucks, biological research is for you.

Also good news that you are still in the big city. Although curfew's keeping us out, maybe I could visit you sometimes around, with a permission note from you? Interesting to know the effects of the entire invasion. Still safe here up in the north though.

I'm doing good these days. Same work, same pay, same job for these past years. It isn't very fun now, but still exciting. I'm hearing that the President is getting proper treatment in his home village, but the government's always keeping us out for some reason. Fishy, I tell ya. I hope he survives too. If he passes away anyways -- which is unlikely anyways -- then guarenteed, it would be a huge newsevent no matter how fishy the entire event is.

About your last question, it is still fishy. I mean, we are not allowed to speak to the president directly in hospital. There's always the military visiting the president, very weird. And now they are saying that the president wants traditional treatment? Unusual, I'd say. Doesn't recall that the President is that traditional... Maybe even a mockup, but don't tell this to anyone else.

Anyways, waitin for the reply.

Most respectfully,

Dr. Janue"

Cafe Holla, Osaria Downtown District

Another afternoon summer day here. Sunny, as usual. The air conditioner of this cafe blew on the heads of young Omzians, sweating and talking. Certainly, the coolness and comfortableness got 2 junior officers in the Omzian State Administration Bureau talking. They talked low, so few can hear them. As the cars passed by, they sipped their "ice coffee". "I heard that the 1 billion population parade's coming soon after this year's census? They always say...", one initated the conversation.

"Yep, the census's going to be soon. If the news' 1 billion, then we'll get the parade rollin'. No need to worry, they're finishing the south and Honjazgrad," another replied, looking at the Omzian National First Tower, a building 1088 feet tall. Certainly a wonder. "Certainly a wonder, Sakav. Certainly a wonder."

"Yep," the junior officer replied swiftly, glancing at the blue building, then back to the conversation. "Say, isn't Earuage Ukan going to appear in the parade right after that... cancer treatment thing? Or so I heard..."

"I think so, they said that Earuage Ukan will be making an appearance. 'On his own request' or something. He do care about his own nation," the other junior officer chuckled. "I still remember he was first elected... He was 42 then I believe? I was still a teenager... Heh, he's only 57 and got cancer."

"I tell you, time goes by fast, time goes by fast...". A small group of 6 Omzian Army National Guards marched through the sparkling-clean street, as the citizens made way for them respectfully. The military, especially the Reserves, are highly respected in Omzian Nation. So is the government. And the New Democratic and Socialist Parties. "Remember when we did that air force cadet training at Janua Trainings Base? Good times, we get to fly a trainer..."

"Yep, good times...," one said as he looked on his watch. "I gotta be picking up my date soon, we're going out."

"Date? Fiddling around again?", the other officer, who already has a wife, chuckled. "Anyways, I will probably need to pick up my little girl soon too."

"So I see..." They glanced the National First Tower again. Seems like a wonder.

****************

"Paraide Palace"

Earuage Ukan's been here for 4 month now. 4 month. 4 centuries, he thought. The military's controlling his life now. All things he does haev to get through the military. Sure, there's no work. Heck, the military even offered "young female entertainers" for him. But he doesn't see them fit. He doesn't see his life fit now. But what can he do? Suicide? The military's going to go nuts if he jumped from the house. The military's going to be mad if he slashed his throat. But he kills himself for the military? No, no. He now have all what he want: luxury TV, swimming pool, an entire collention of expensive wines... Being one of the "poorer" politicians, he never enjoyed those things -- well, he did enjoy some of them in his presidency. He want to live in his own home. Not even the Presidental Residence.

It is midnight now. He just couldn't sleep. Couldn't. Lying on the sofa, he thought about something. Something... A knock on the door. Followed by a warm voice. Middle aged man. "Earuage Ukan, are you awake?". he seems to know that Ukan is awake. Not a suprise, since Earuage Ukan seems to be always awake at midnight. "Yes," Earuage Ukan answered in a "normal" but relaxed tune.

The military officer opened the door. But he was not. He is a member of the "State Administration Bureau" -- something new Earuage Ukan heard that replaces the Internal Affairs Ministry. "We got something for you."

Earuage Ukan froze for a second. He thought of everything. But nothing. Unsuccessfully trying to raise his eyebrow, he asked suprisingly, "something?"

The officer simply said, "you are going to the 1 billion population celebration parade that's likely to happen. We are going to tell now, letting you to make a decision."

A good news. An exciting news. A potental news. An "useful" and beneficial news for these curious to find what is Earuage Ukan like now.

Dr. Janue,
Nice to hear from you again. Yea, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with medicine. I've been taking night clases from the embassy doctor. But it's going to be awhile untill I graduate. I have to take a huge exam to become a doctor in my nation, and it's going to be awhile before I'm ready for that. I'm really interested though, I mean, healing the injured, to me, seems much better than shuffling around paperwork...though I'm sure as a doctor there's still some of that.

At any rate, I wouldn't mind meeting you again in person. I could probably get a permission slip for you. I mean, your a doctor and I'm some pen-pusher at a friendly nation's embassy. Not sure what anyone could find dangerous about us meeting. My government will probably allow, if yours will, that is. At any rate, I'll try to arrange something.

As for Eurage...traditional treatment? That suprised me just as much. Can't believe it, actually, but it seems to be true. I hope it works for him, I mean, from the one time I met him, I could tell he was a good man, and I must say, his death would be a great loss for both our nations.

Finally, about his being a "mockup"? I really don't know about that, there doesn't seem to be much evidence. But then again, your one of the few who's seem him recently, so you would be one to tell. As for telling anyone else...don't worry. I could get in as much trouble with my government for discussing this as you could with you. Not that they would be that angry...nearly everyone can put up with a bit of curiosity.

Anyway, on to happier subjects, I'll try to get that slip for you ASAP. It will be nice talking to you again...and this time we'll both be able to relate to each other medically.

Your Friend

John Ferryman, Diplomatic Paperwork Bitch...ahem...Liason

He sent the e-mail, feeling rather good. Even if he didn't learn anything intelligent from Dr. Janue, it would still be nice to talk to him again. And more experience with other doctors could help him for when he has to take that exam. After sending the e-mail, he checked his desk, and sure enough, all four daily newspapers we're there. He checked them all, but found nothing untill he was on the 11th page of the fourth. Standing there, in big letters, was something that made him spit up. Eurage Ukan was going to show at the 1 Billion Celebration. Ferryman couldn't believe it. How could Ukan do this, if sick with cancer? Or was it truly Ukan who had been in the hospital. And if not, why hide the truth? If he had been extremely sick, and the rest of the government didn't want to bring morale down, he would understand that. But he was showing up at a celebration! Something was definitly fishy about this.

Suddenly, the life of Agent John Ferryman went from boring and stupid to....well, it didn't go to much actually. Simply stupid now, though getting rid of the boring would help a lot.

"It is that time...", Dr. Janue sat at his desk again, in his luxury apartment. Reading his email -- tens, or possibly even hundreds -- he sipped a cup of coffee, like a busy man he is. A good drink for a wet weekend afternoon. Let's see... John again. He stared at the email message appearing on the "chalkboard" display, as he wrote down some notes not related to the email.

After finished peering at the last line, he automatically pressed the "Reply" button on the screen. Using the voice input, he stared at the floods of text appearing as he spoke in English -- an accented one, that is.

Greetings John,

Glad to hear your great interest in the area of medicine. As I can recall in my young days, it did took me a lot of sleepless nights and 'boring' labs inside Osaria Central University. but for the hell of it, it is worth it. Work hard, concentrate, and you get a degree. Although us doctors will be extremely busy, of course, the medical area is great to gain extra experience from, and of course big bucks. At my hospital, we also have a first aide night class, although I won't be teaching. There are also these kinds of classes at other hospitals, although generally we offer then very cheap and very in-depth. By all means, good luck in your new interest.

Well, also glad to hear that your boss might be able to get you to meet. A good news. I will probably send a slip soon if you need one.

Of course, Earuage Ukan is an important person. During my lives, he has done great feats for Omzian Nation, and he just couldn't die from cancer. It would be unbelievable. However, I heard that they are going to use some kind of herbs to treat his cancer temporatorily, and then he might as well switch to us again. Or at least, that's what the boss told me. Hope he could get well. For the mockup, I am still not too sure, but it still seems fishy as you've just expressed. He does seem a lot like Earuage Ukan, although suprisingly he doesn't talk much. We are always barred from seeing him unless iti s for medical puproses anyways. Surise things can happen, I thought the government's supposed to be more open than that. Democracy, you know...

Glad to talk to you. Anything you need, contact me. I also have a phone number at home, 2833-2993, although you'll need to enter the area code of 779 if you are outside of Osaria. Hopefully we can meet at a cafe, or something.

Respectfully,
Dr. Janue.

With that, he happily tapped the "Send" button, and the email was instantly delivered. With the job done, he was happy, as he turned on his "Web terminal". Time for the daily news...

Ferryman felt great, for the first time in about a month. He had something to investigate (the president), something was happening domestically (the 1 billion celebration), he had finished all his paper work, and he had made himself a new friend. Dr. Janue seemed nice enough of a guy, and Ferryman was looking forward to meeting him in person.

Dr. Janue
I finally got my pass approved by both governments ((if that's okay with you Omz)), and would like to meet you in person for once. E-mailing is fine, but nothing beats face to face talking. Anyway, it expires Sunday at Noon (Omz Time), so how about meeting Saturday at 6:00 PM?. You can pick where, I haven't gotten out much lately, not sure where to go. Heh, we got a lot to catch up on, don't we? Anyway, e-mail me back on where (and when, if Saturday doesn't work).

As for President Ukan....well, he's appearing at the celebration, so I'm assuming he's okay. It's kind of weird, but we should be able to derive the truth when he's there. First time in awhile I've discussed a mystery.

Hope to see you soon!

OOC: You have decided to pay attention to this after... 18 years of coup? BTW, the military will not appreciate your help (aka intervene with someone else's internal affairs), nor do the republic obviously.

Greetings John,

Great news, it seems. I do have a break on Saturday, night, yes. I'd suggest the Osaria Cafe near the Omzian Military Museum on Yorktown Street, is that fine? It is not far from where I live, nor the embassy I suppose.

About the parade, Former President Ukan could still be in cancer, just still be able to appear. I assume that you will come to the celebration at the Osaria Square in downtown? I heard that there will also be a parade there. Good stuff.

See you soon,
Dr. Janue

OOC:

Sneak preview of what will come:

-Speech at parade ignite conflict between military and government
-After war finishes more incidents worsen relationship
-Military authority orders unsuccessful overthrow of Republic government
-Central Military Authority dismissed; members arrested.

Alright! It's a date...but not a date...er...you get the idea.
I'll see you at the Osaria Cafe. It's not too far from here, not to mention I could use some walking. Meet you there at six! And as for the celebration..you bet we're going. The embassy worked us all passes so we could go to the celebration, only a group of security guards is staying back. Maybe I'll see you there!

As for President Ukan..well, I don't really know. I'll see if he acts the same was as last time we met, if I get the chance to speak to him. Hopefully our suspicions are wrong, but if right...then I don't know. Ah well, see you Saturday Night.

Greetings John,

Glad to hear. Well, we still have 1 days left -- today's Friday, also ironically my pay day. So, remember our meet time, and talk there!

As for the parade, glad to hear. A lot of people are are going to go. Especially with the report of 980 million citizens in the government databases, we are on hyper. Celebrations are already being prepared, despite the war. Well, people's morales are still high.

See you later.

Osaria Subway, Green Line, Downing Street Station
Saturday, 4:48PM

Dr. Janue is having a break today. Ironically, he just heard about that he is having work off today from his boss -- a representive from the Osaria Healthcare Management Board -- right after he checked his email. Wearing a modest jacket, the middle aged man is just like any ordinary citizen -- but he is also a rich hospital chief from a central hospital. "One ticket please," he informed a subway station staff at the ticket counter just as he handed her a 1 Omzar coin. The ticket machines here are broken -- or having an upgrade, at least that's what he heard. "Thank you," he said as he received the ticket.

Walking down towards the beautifully-built subway station's platform -- which is even more decorated with murals, paintings, lights, and tiles -- he looked at his watch. Still a hour, the subway ride will probably take some time. He waited on the platform just as the subway train came. Another old train car, he thought to himself, as be boarded the subway train. Not too many people were in the car, nor there are too many people boarding the train. "Ticket please," an inspector informed him just as he handed the inspector the ticket. "Thank-you... Excuse me, aren't you Dr. Janue from the Osaria Central hospital or some sorts?"

Dr. Janue's face turned to a even bigger smile. "Of course I am, comrade. Nice to meet you."

With that, Dr. Janue sat on a seat, just as the train moved nto the dark tunnel...

Ferryman got into the embassy car and buckled up. As he started the car, he saw all the people walking in and out of the embassy, and realized just how lucky he had been to get permission to use an official embassy vehicle. Of course, he was the director of domestic intelligence, so it hadn't been too hard. As he started driving towards the cafe, he realized how little traffic there was this time of day. "Oh well" he thought "must be some new movie on TV or something."

Ferryman was extremely excitied about meeting Dr. Janue again. It would be an interesting conversation. Not only in the area of medicine and what they had been doing, but it would be nice to talk about the fishiness of what was going on with Ukan. Of course, Ferryman was going to be discreet about his questions about Ukan, as he didn't want to get in himself or Dr. Janue in trouble with either FPS or Omz. At any rate, just the chance to do something like this, as unproductive as it would probably turn out, was fantastic to Ferryman. He had been stuck inside the embassy for around three weeks now, and at last he would be getting out.

Ferryman had been unlucky in one way though. He had been unable to get the embassy to send a couple of other Intelligence Agents to watch him. Because of this, Ferryman was planning to be extra-cautious, just in case this was some sort of set up. Much as he doubted such a thing, Ferryman deeply agreed with the phrase "Better safe than sorry".

Osaria Subway, Green-Blue Switch, Yanbaze Central Station
5:46PM

It is certainly a long way from the suburbs to the central of the city -- well, not exactly the central yet. The line between the suburbs and the centrals were just opened a few years ago -- origionally Dr. Janue have to go to the city by a more expensive option -- train. The station, which is near the business district of Osaria, is a huge and old station -- built in 1928, it was one of the first station in the origional Osarie Underground Railway Network. Decorated with various lights, murals, and food and newspaper stands scattered across the station, ti is certainly an amazing sight. Just as Dr. Janue walked out of the train and stepped onto the dark platform, he quickly got familiar with the station. He have been to here for some occasions. Just as he navigated his way through the large crowd, he quickly walked down to another platform -- the Blue line. The Blue line is the tourists' favourite, since it links the Osaria downtown, especially the historical sites and museums. There are machines for tickets here, he kept that in memory. Before walking quickly into a traincar just as it prepared to leave, he bought one of the evening newspapers -- Osaria Evening News. There were the headlines: Earuage Ukan Steps Out. Earuage Ukan, going public now!?, he read suprisingly, just as the traincar went into motion.

To his suprise, it seems that the State News Agency is reporting something else -- Earuage Ukan is "having success with his war on stomach cancer". Some suprise..., he frowned a bit upon suprise as he read over once more. Earuage Ukan decides to step off!?, even more suprises. As he arrived at the Faruan Street Station, he quickly stepped out of the train, with the newspaper at hand. Look at the watch, he still needed to finish a short walk to the Omzian Military Museum -- featuring "Modern Air Warfare" this weekend. Quickly, he stepped out, and quickly rushed his way through the sidewalk.

Ferryman rolled his car to a stop next to the curb, and put some money into the meter (assuming your country does as the US does for parking). As walked up onto the curb, he turned around and remotly locked his car. Though it wasn't really his car, the last thing he needed was to fill out a form for a stolen car. He walked about ten paces down the street, and looking around, saw no one suspicious. He turned around, walked twenty paces in the opposite direction, and, after looking once more, entered the cafe. He got a cup of hot chocolate at the counter, and took a seat with a clear view of the door. He then started waiting for Dr. Janue while sipping his hot chocolate.

The waitress replied back cheerfully, "that'll be $0.99 Omzar, thank-you. Your coffee will be ready soon." As Dr. Janue waited and got his hot coffee, he carefully got back and put it on the table. "Anyways John, nice to meet you face-to-face again."

Dr. Janue paused for a moment, while looking outside. He heard something -- much like a young male voice, as he saw a young, pertty woman, wearing western-style clothings running. "Don't go Maria! Don't go!" the young man finally rushed, with 2 policemen following behind. "What the hell...", Dr. Janue muttered under his breath.

"Excuse me, anyways," he began. "Well, I could say that's a possibility. The military, although they are quite loyal of their country and listen to them, they are essentially still enacting their coup from the 'Military-Parliament Cold War' in the late 80'es. That's what initated the coup anyways." He paused for less than a second, and continued. "I mean, the military's very smart. They wouldn't just secretly try and execute Earuage Ukan, or just get some Air Force bombers to bomb the Presidental Headquarters. They don't speak violence or go rough, if you know what I mean. Doing so would seriously hurt their credibility among both the international community and the people. " Taking a sip from his coffee, he paused for another second, then grinned a bit but still thinking. "John... I have to say that is a possibility. From what I see, this whole thing is very quick and brief anyways, if you get what I'm saying. I did also remember the President criticizing the military some times ago anyways, could be a possibility..." Dr. Janue nodded, and then again spoke. "Well... If this whole cancer thing is just a mess from lies, it clearly showed that the people can't be fooled well anyways. What do you expect even from a bunch of smart Generals in the military, trying to fool 1 billion Omzians?"

"Well, yeah. Even though the military is good at fooling its rivals, it is useles against civilians, obviously. I'd personally say it is a bad choice anyways, for both Earuage Ukan and the Central Military Authority. Now, excuse me for a moment, I gotta get another cup of coffee," Dr. Janue said in a quick fashion shortly after he finished the coffee. He went to the counter, and requested the young male clerk. "One large, plain Banard coffee."

The young clerk seemed confused, as Dr. Janue observed him filling the cup. "Would you like sugar with that?" Dr. Janue, a bit annoyed, replied, "no, plain please." The young clerk didn't seemed to really listen, just as he shoved in some sugar. Dr. Janue immediately interrupted, "I'd like it plain please. No sugar." The young clerk, suddenly replied. "Plain? What plain?"

"Yes, plain Banard. That means no sugar, just the coffee." The clerk again asked, blankly, "so you want sugar with that?"

Dr. Janue, seeming a bit irritated, heightened the volume of his voice. He felt that some people are already watching him and the clerk already. "I said, plain, no sugar." "We... well, we haven't got plain here," the clerk simply replied, also seeming to be irritated.

Dr. Janue, even more irritated, pointed to the sign above the clerk as he said, "yes there is. The sign clearly said, Banard coffee $1.29 for plain, $1.39 with sugar. I want $1.29 plain."

"I'm sorry, but I don't think we sell plain here."

"Then why is it on the sign? Get me the manager," just as Dr. Janue said, another young female waitress interrupted. "Plain Banard for $1.29?" Dr. Janue smiled a bit, and then replied, "yep, plain. No sugar."

"Coming right up," the young teenage waitress said as she got Dr. Janue the cup of coffee. "Thank you," Dr. Janue siad as he paid the $1.29. Walking to John, he mumbled clearly in English, "service these days".

"Well, simply it is human's desire to gain power," Dr. Janue replied somehow with a sense of "smartness". "Omz222 is not really an old democracy anyways, it is barely 65 years old right now. I mean, vote rigging still exists, along with the military continuesly bugging into the government's affairs. Although the government isn't too corrupt unlike it used to be and the government has improved ever since, I wouldn't say that the government is really serving the people, still. Sure enough, there was a car parked across the street with two men inside it. Looking at the front license plate, John saw it was a vehicle of his own embassy.

"Damn." John said, looking around. "Are you sure you weren't followed? Because I definitly was. Looks like my own people didn't trust me enough to leave the embassy." Matt racked through his Brain, thinking of how the could have followed them, and then realized suddenly. "They must have used the tracer in my car. They have one in every car, just in case they need to find someone quickly. Doesn't look like any of them are close enough to listen, but if I remember right, those two across the room were a lot further across the room when they first walked in. "

OOC: Hehehe, if you wan't your government to get involved, now would be the point. If a secret agent was able to be followed, I'm sure a few undercover cops might have followed Janue. Of course, that's your choice. Couldn't help but put a little mysticism in it. My own embassies people following my guy? Perhaps a little conspiracy here?

OOC: Well, that is still a tad bit early, at least, in the cafe. Maybe in his apartment  Maybe the 2 men are agents after all, following...

The 2 men were indeed Omzian Internal Safety Bureau -- formly State Security Services agents. But they didn't drive an embassy car -- a red Chanbou Civic instead -- 2010 Premium. Wearing jackets, they were only going to get some coffee. Looks like they're wrong. They even took the same subway routes as Dr. Janue, but they only stepped out a station early.

****************

Dr. Janue looked at the car, as he saw what John was doing, He indeed find that suspecious, as the license plate is a black one -- the special license plate Omzian Armed Police issue to embassy and foreign diplomatic teams. Just as John finished, he replied almost instantly. "Heh, your embassy must be worried. They even installed a security devices in your car?"

Pausing for a moment, he suddenly remembered 2 man wearing blue and black jackets. It seemed that they are also following him. "Wait, I do remember some people following me... Well, at least they are gone now."

A light smile appeared on his face as he drank some of his coffee slowly, without a sound.

He was wrong.

"Wow." John said. They couldn't possibly know why he was speaking to Janue, and even if they did, his boss wouldnt have John followed. Looking at the vehicle across the street, John waved, and, midway through his second wave, flicked the occupants off.
"Don't worry about it, we're fine. Their probably just making sure I'm not betraying the embassy or anything. I've seen a lot of stuff in the files division over the last couple weeks. Still kind of freaky. Dah, doesn't matter, they can't hear me in here, so it's obviously not that important. You sure the two who followed you are gone?"

"Ah, must be some kind of percaution then...", Dr. Janue said, looking at the car driving away and joining the crowd of cars on the road. "Well, I'm sure of it. Just some of concidence maybe."

"Huh. Anyway...why would the military replace the president? I mean, he's always been completly supporting! And, if you think about it, he's never really done anything negative to anyone else! Unless I'm missing something, there would be no movive." As John said this, he looked around, making sure no one he recognized was there. He didn't see anyone, so he sat back, a little bit more relaxed.
"I'm going to kill whoever ordered that." he thought to himself.

"I'm telling you, struggle for power, plus the socialist administration was always treating the military like third-class citizens. Ever since the military coup, they just had to watch closely over the government which they control, and a foul move? Bam. I wouldn't say Earuage Ukan would really deserve it if he is really captured, but he sure did a great mistake of continuing this reputation."

He said that outloud. He does have the right to exercise his basic human rights. He have a right of free speech.

Struggle for Power..., the phrase began to flash in the doctor's minds, storming in his brain. Struggle for Power...

John thought over what Dr. Janue had just said. No intelligence had ever really pointed to the military being in full control, but now that he thought about it, the military control WAS quite obvious. But it was another part of what Dr. Janue said that cought John's attention. "What do you mean by 'his reputation'? I never knew President Ukan had a reputation...besides caring, anyway."

"Well, he quite have a reputation besides his 'caring' for the people. That is, against the military. If you are in the military yourself, you would know that Earuage Ukan often limits the military budget and prefers various new weapon which aren't so effective anyways. The military wasn't so effective under him anyways -- well, with him. That's why we got a military reform after Ukan. My brother who is in the Navy as a F-4 - er, F-14 - fighter jet pilot didn't like Ukan's policies on them anyways.

I wouldn't really say that the military really 'captured him' anyways, well at least they wouldn't get revenge on him just for that. Ever heard about that Earuage-General Banard case a while ago?"

John new exactly what Dr. Janue was talking out (OOC: Though I dont...), but kept his face looking quizical. Getting the opinion on the case from a citizen could be helpfull...it would at least make it look like he'd done some work that day. "No, I'm afraid I haven't. What happened?"

"Oh, you must haven't came here so early then. It happened some times ago," Dr. Janue said with an understanding voice while sipping his (now cold) coffee. "There's this incident in 1997 or 12 years ago when Earuage Ukan himself proposed to have that General Banard step down because of his 'attitude' and performance. So the administration made up a few excuses, and it went. Some parts of the military also decided to discharge Banard themselves and not believing what Banard has said, until a court decision found that the evidences were false. Completely made up.

This single incident explains the military's relations with the government anyways, heh. If you want more on that subject, I'd recommend the book Hitting the Military by J. Longe"

IC:
"Well, that would give the military some motive to want to get ride of Ukan. I mean, getting the military to split against one of their leaders probably didn't make them happy. But why wait so long? I mean, why not simply remove him immediatly?" Even as he said it, an idea as to the answer popped into John's head, but he wasn't sure he believed it.

"Of course. But why not remove them immediately?", Dr. Janue replied, with a successful attempt in raising his eyebrow. "Simply, if the military remove him immediately, then that's definately going to hurt their reputation, and they don't want that. Instead of something so open that can damage their credit, why not do it covert so they could delay the criticizing part?"

He thought about it for a brief second, then continued.

"You have to know that not all of the military will be supporting this idea, trust me. Only the higher ranked officers. The military never actually wanted to be involved with politics, that is, governing the country. Only the small crowd there at the Central Military Authority wants to. Now, I wouldn't say that the military are fascists or communist rebels, but they do want authority, if you know what I mean."

"Yeah well, everyone's a little power hungry." John replied, sitting back. But there was one question John couldn't get. "But why say he has cancer? Really, wouldn't that leave a lot of room for error? I mean, come on, me and you, a doctor and a low ranked embassy person would be able to figure it out. Why not simply have him 'Die' or something? And especially now, bringing him back out into the public...couldn't that cause some serious problems if the truth were somehow to get out?"

OOC: I'm just doing a bit of foreshadowing towards the rebellion you talked about earlier in the thread. Anyone reading, I'm sure OMZ doesn't mind....we are still open to new ppl joining the thread, it's still an open RP!

OOC: Sorry for the delay, some domestic problems + homework + (I'll admit it) a bit of lazyness. Anyways, I wouldn't mind, and anyone is welcome.

"Yep," Dr. Janue was glad that John understood him, just as he pooked around, closed his eyes gently, and slowly opened it after a short period of time.

"You know, having him to get cancer is a better excuse than having him die or actually do let him die," he replied again with a refreshed voice. "There are alot of these Ukan fanatics, and once the man dies, I wouldn't want to imagine what will happen to the entire nation. Of course, if people eventually find out about this, they are going to get mad. A revolt? Possibly." With that, he performed a short blink, and continued.

"Problems? Oh well, there's a lot of them. The military knew they screwed up, and frankly, they shouldn't be playing -- excuse me, they shouldn't have thought of playing politics in the first place. Surely with that, I could imagine a whole mess between the military's administration and the governmental administration. In fact, I'm afraid, this might degrade into a civil war." Dr. Janue really turned serious this time. If this is a lie by the military, and if a future mess goes above the line, they were to expect blood. Either blood, or havoc.

The words "Civil War" and "Revolt" stuck inside John's head. John tried to ignore them, but he couldn't. Even as he thought of a response, he couldn't help seeing what was happening. He had just stumbled upon a textbook example of the people rebelling against a military dictatorship. If what Janue and John were putting forth was true..."No wait." John thought to himself, "What were putting forth? There's no way we could be wrong..."

John looked at Dr. Janue. "If that were to happen....the results would be horrific." Suddenly, John looked at the clock on the wall. "We have 15 hours untill the president makes his speech....if anyone else has thought of this as well....it could spell disaster for the ceremonies...and for the nation. I know there's only the two of us, but we've got to do something to try to stop this disaster before it starts!"

John, on one hand, knew it was his duty to tell the embassy about what they had just come across. But on the other, he and Dr. Janue really needed to do anything they could to resolve this situation before it became....humungous. The question being, what would they do?

"Speech?", Dr. Janue questioned curiously, not knowing recent international events much. "Oh that President Address, that's not until next month," he continued while highlighted that last word. "Or rather, that's being delayed actually. The President's having some other matters.

He paused for a moment, looking at 2 fully-dressed soldiers across from him blankly. "Oh, don't worry. Nothing is really going to happen anyways, the military is becoming smart enough to start any trouble. If they plot a slow, bloodless coup again... That's another matter," he replied with a careful tune.

"What? Not until next month?" John pulled out a newspaper, and looked. Sure enough, the thing was on DECEMBER 17, not NOVEMBER 17. "Wow, I must have signed off on any number of documents that said the wrong date for such an event...oh well, that's life."

As he thought about Dr. Janue's second comment, John eyed the officers. They didn't seem to be looking at him in particular...but he didn't want to risk anything. Lowering his voice slightly, and leaning slightly over the table, John decided to ignore the guards. "Yea, but the question is, can this nation really survive a coup of that type without breaking into full civil war?"

"Actually, you are not wrong either. They just changed the date some days ago, don't know what the president is up to now," Dr. Janue simply replied, noting that Omzian Presidents typically do not come out to the public very frequently. Staring at a headline, "BLOODIEST MURDERER IN OMZIAN HISTORY EXECUTED THIS MORNING", he quickly thought about something. "Well, I would say that's entirely possible," Dr. Janue said, gazing on the officers and then John. "You could have a somehow 'peaceful' military dictatorship, with all the political people either placed in house arrest at some 'Paradise Palace', or the opponents in asylums. Now, that isn't a good thing, of course. I wouldn't want to imagine what the changes can bring, good or bad."
