Mine 04CU11
Halifa, Kingsford

The dark depths of the mine was illuminated only by the industrial lights in the corner, where the packs were dropped. The light broke through the rubber coated cage that protected the hands of workers from being burnt of the light's surface. 21 miners took their tools to the hard rock walls, trying to earn enough money to feed their family for another month. And then, it happened.

Norus Kilno heard it first. What sounded like a rampaging herd of rhinos was coming from above, with the occasional crack of rock. The Frontier River, which was almost directly above them, had broken it's barriers and was crashing down. As the sound grew louder and louder, eventually every man stopped digging. Kilno walked to the entrance, where it was coming. He turned to face the others, as to say something, shout some order, but before he could get a word out, the water snuck up behind him and sent a rock that it was carrying straight at him, taking off his head and killing him instantly. The others grabbed the packs and light and rushed to the next chamber. The way the mine was dug, it was a series of long chambers with small doors connecting. The water chased the miners through two complete chambers, each the length of an american football field, before the rocks it carried with it finally blocked the doorway, allowing no more water to enter.

As the miners stood ankle deep in water, they looked around. There were only 19 of them. One miner, Legur Banner, said he saw Rijel Belmont get swallowed up by the water. Another miner, Jeff Newson, was not among them, so they could only assume the same fate. Banner pulled his radio out of his pack and pressed the button.

"Can you hear me, Can you hear me? This is Legur Banner of mine 04CU11. The river has trapped us in the fourth chamber of the mine. We are at two dead, one missing. Total present is 19. Over." As he released the talk button. A part of him felt relieved, because soon, there'd be an international rescue attempt to get them out.
