The Panzer VIII

Armament: 1 - 76 MM(long) gun KwK 40

Engine: Maybach,V-17 gas 800 HP

weight: 26 tons

Speed: 70 MPH

Crew: 3 (1 Driver 1 Gunner and Radio Officer)

Similar to the Panzer III the Panzer VIII has more armor, better weapons capability's and it is alot faster then it's cousin.

this tank is still pretty new in the field and is prone to breakdowns in the main Engine assembly.

a way to avoid this is to not to forget matainance and repairs.

this tank can be modifyed to take a laser cannon instead.[/code:1:5b5bdf4487]

"I'd hate to put a dampner on things" said one Lusakan army major, "but for that engine to give that tank that speed, the armour must be open to penetration by rifle fire.. and with that suspension I would not want to take it off road at such speeds..
"The gun wouldn't scratch our T-56(L)s, never mind something modern.. and if it is to act as an infantry support tank, I wonder why it need be so fast, and why it be so vulnerable.
"I suppose that at least it is cheap.. but apparently maintaining the tank will soon off-set that saving.
"Best stick with the upgraded T-55s."

"The fact remains that an 830hp engine pushes the Leopard 1 up to about 65km/h, and that tank has 70mm steel armour at best- which is less than the Panzer IV had.

"With a slightly weaker engine, this tank apparently goes what? Near twice as fast, despite supposedly weighing a lot more."

The major was then told to go away and have some pizza.. so he did.

we use a different BRAND of engine that is a good quality. not the brand that the germans used in WW2.

Its really difficult trying to Sell older Weapons, where most people play at Modern-tech or higher.

Think of me, im Medeival/Fantasy Tech. I recently posted up a list of Weapons at an Arms Bazzarr, Including Long Rifles, Elven Longbows, Axes, etc. But i havent had much response yet, pity really.

a 70 mm gun, the Thelasian Sabre has a 150 mm Main gun. I would have a firing distance of about twice your tanks, even then, myacuracy would also be better. And at 70 MPH, your armor would have to be really thin. And I eco what others have said, I would hate to have to matinace that thing. Even if it was defencive only, it would get slaughtered by my Sabres never mind what an artillery barage would go to the thing.
28-10-2003, 20:17
Abrams can go 67.5 MPH with its engine protector taken off......

75mm gun is absolutely useless.

The 76mm gun I would say could be useful-ish on a light/medium tank meant to engage soft targets, or maybe static defences.

In the latter case though, one would expect much more armour and much less speed. In the former, I suppose the tank would be useful- raiding enemy supply lines perhaps? But then there are modern armoured cars and such which are probably just as good and more reliable.

Ya, I agree with Lusaka, a 76/75 mm gunn could be good against soft targets, but it would do little against even a modern APC like the Bradley fighting vehical. Plus if you want to raid supply lines, just get a hellicopter gunship.
