Amidst the rubble...[serious co-RP]

28-10-2003, 18:11
George Wrankwind stepped carefully up the staircase, avoiding fallen debris or pieces of ice that might make him slip. Slowly, the major in the Red Storm Regiment raised his Spidershot missile, bracing it on his shoulder, flipped the selector to 'independant'-no C3I here-, turned on it's infra-red seeker and waited. Judging from the sound, he wouldn't have long to wait... and he didnt. Two FB-111 Aardvarks streaked low over the landscape of rubble. George aimed the missile's head at the rear of the second 'Vark, and pressed the trigger when he heard the missile's ready tone. He watched it trace up to the fighter-bomber's left engine, and detonate. The left engine went out at once, and the right one caught fire, while the FB-111 trailed smoke, slowly losing height. His job done, the major threw away the disposable launch tube and hurried down below. Once their planes had cleared the area, the artillery would resume...

Jack Rovester was a FB-111 pilot for United Power, inc. Up till now, a well-paid job without drawbacks, and even now, streaking over a ruined city in the North of Karkan Island with a load of Mk82 iron bombs, Napalm and Rockeye cluster-bombs, it didn't seem to dangerous. Then he heard an explosion at the rear of his bomber.... he checked his status board. The left engine was out, and warning lights flashed red to indicate a fire in the right engine.... ahead of him, his leader released his weapons over target. He wasn't particularly eager to meet the people his friend and co-employee had just Napalmed, but he didn't have much of a choice...
"Enforcer Two to lead, i'm hit bad. Probably a handheld SAM. Ejecting!"
He pulled the lever, hoping the company wouldn't make his family "pay"-by a lif eof forced labour-for the aircraft, and the seat burst out just after the canopy detached. He hit the strap release when he felt the acceleration let off, but he had poorly adjusted his parachute harness: when the 'chute blossomed above him, it tugged his right shoulder out of the socket...
"Shit!"
The pain brought tears to his eyes, and to crown it all he hit the ground poorly. He managed to rooll away and cut loose his 'chute, and stood on a painful ankle, only to see the barrel of an automatic rifle pointing into is eye from a ground-floor window whose glass pane had long since gone missing.
"Damn."
He raised his left arm, and said "I can't put the other one up. I think it's dislocated. My ankle is also hurt. I'm unarmed. I surrender."
He felt more than he saw the People's Liberation Front guerrillas surround him. As they tugged him roughly into the building, he heard the whine of incoming artillery fire...
[OOC:obviously, this is Cirdan's puppet. The storyline is simple: the city is controlled by Cirdani-backed rebels, and surrounded by governmental forces (in reality those of the corporations that control KI) who are pounding it mercillesly. The civillians can't get out because the besiegers blast everything that moves, even if it's obviously harmless. That said, you can RP anything you want to RP in the circumstances. I just hope people participate....]

High over the land, a high-altitude spy plane flew over Karkan Island, photographing the activity.

Meanwhile, in the Five Civilized Nations's capital, the Citadel, the Defense and Foreign Ministers were meeting with the King, contemplating whether to intervene in this war...

Alther Nora's goverment is currently debating if to send a intervention force.
(Maybe if the one side or the other would send delegates and try to "persuade" our goverment into joining their side...:))

You can hardly expect a flood of people wanting to join in when they have no interests in your country or link to current events, this is where so many people go wrong with RPs, they don't give other nations a good reason to get involved.

Encrypted communique to Cirdanistan

Greetings, comrades and allies.

It has come to our attention that a situation has developed in Karkan Islands, that a city desirous of the freedom and liberty offered by socialism and communism has had its efforts stymied by the reactionary, capitalistic incumbents.

Perhaps we could assist?

After a long meeting that lasted four hours, the King of the Five Civilized Nations has decided to dispatch a medium sized army of 200,000 troops to support the Cirdani-supported rebels, commanded by Lieutenant General Joshua Reynolds...

The troops have begun to mobilize for the war...

A army of 10 000 is being mobilized and being sent to the area to act as protection for red cross facilities and refugee camps.
The Grand Duchy does not wish to particapate in this war until it gathers enough evidence to prove which side is right.

The following information is not official and is a military secret, for the time being it is impossible for other countries to know though in time they might find out.
Athel Nora'n Military advisors (experts in siege warfare) are co-operating with K.I. military to speed up the taking off the city (they got the apropriate tactics, lets see if they can use them properly).

[that's very fine, but i rather it stayed done to individual level in the thread...if i wanted a swift resolution i'd send half my regular army to steamroller K.I and the damn corporations...]

yes...the situation on the ground is somehow critical, but with the current world situation we are refraining from dispatching a powerful force, keeping it down to special operations commandoes on the ground...since it is well known that your forces contain experts in this domain, we'd have no objections to a few teams helping us to keep the PLF alive.

But of course. This course of action shall be proposed before the Commonwealth Synod at their next meeting, which is.... tomorrow, actually. We see no reason why the rest of the Synod should not approve of this.

Currently I estimate that a maximum of 1 brigade may be mobilized on short notice, though of course given the tactical neccesities of such an operation far smaller numbers may suffice.

New Grey Havens, central Cirdanistan
"So, that's settled. Would like some more of this excellent Celdonian apple liqueur, my dear?"
Ilthi held out her class.
"Now, Ingrid, about that Karkan Island situation..."
Ingrid Feuersturm, an Air Force major and the Praesident of Military Matters, shook her head sadly.
"It's very unfortunate....but we can't move openly-especially not with Attila the Hun's hordes in Skargarden-and with the corporate forces surrouding the city, we can't sneak anyone in. A Nebula would be spotted."
"I'll go. We've got the Nemesis Infiltrator."
"Ilthi! it's just a prototype!you cna't use it!"
"You mean a ten thousand PCSP prototype you'll have to answer for to the SRC?" The elf's voice was incisive.Cold.Hard. The other woman's face registered surprise, shock.
"That's not what i meant, and you know it."
"Do I?" the colonel's eyebrows shot up.
Ingrid's face closed. A look akin to sadness passed over it...
"If that's how you take it, Colonel, i don't see a point in continuing this discussion."
She stood to leave. Ilthiriël caught her wrist.
"Stay. I'm sorry. But i must have the Infiltrator."
Ingrid's voice was half an octave higher than usual, and slightly quavering.
"It's madness! suicide! it's an untried prototype, using technologies we never fully considered before."
"And it's my life to risk."
The elf stared straight into her eyes. Ingrid held her gaze for a moment, then looked down.
"And can you speak for those who will go with you?" A last feeble attempt. She knew the answer before Ilthi said it.
"I'll only take volunteers."

Hephaïstos Military base, central Cirdanistan.

Colonel Ilthiriël and three other soldiers climbed into the stealthy helicopter, the only one of it's kind the People's democratic republic had ever built. It had taken the full authority of the Praesident to get it free dup in twenty-four hours. They closed the doors; the pilot turned on the engines. The rotors started spinning, the roar getting louder, then increasingly high-pitched as the rotors accelerated. The soldiers suddenly covered their ears as it got unbearable-and disappeared, as the rotors speed went beyond the frequency audible to humans first, then even Ilthi's more sensitive elven ears. The chopper took off, and headed east. they'd arrive around midnight.
