It was black, but more than that, it wasn't really "there". A sphere of course, why wouldn't it be? Natures most perfect form always exists in this universe due to the energy equations created at the beginning of time.....

But it wasn't from this universe. It wasn't "from" anywhere. It couldn't be said it blinked into existance, because it didn't exist. But it was there. he could see it!

Moderatii Rosokov paced the bridge of his ArcShip. Sent on this fools errand into empty space. He was certain they would be forgotten, brushed under the beurecratic red tape like so many other voyagers before him. But this was unusual he reminded himself. None of those people had ever been sent to a place where noone expected to find anything!

He turned to his sensors operator

"Voss! how long untill we can leave?"

"18 hours moderatii. The 0-point energy of this place is unusually low."

"Of course it's low! there's nothing here!"

"Moderatii!"

a junior officer stumbled ontyo the command bridge, carying a readout

"Moderatii! there is.... something here! Our sensors are detecting.. well nothing, but too much of it! There should be at least some hydrogen, but this space is empty for hundreds of cubic parsecs!"

"Impossible! re-scan at ESES ftrequencies."

"We already did moderatii! the results are always the same. Nothing"

Rosokov felt a chill. An impossibilty in the carefuly modulated environment of the Zagarokhod

"Notify Omkvost Transit control. Tell them we found something"

Rosokov pondered the oxymoronicity of those words....
