((OOC: If I'm a nation that's not even a week old, can I still begin the development of weaponry without it seriously hurting my economy or political presence?))

well, you could use the 1 day= 1 year approach.

 don't listen to Convict....it is assumed that part of your nation budget is used on development, another on your military etc.

So you can have a military (if you want) of approx 2% to 0.5% of your population (the lower the better).

When it comes too developing weapons & the like that have no real world connection just avoid making the unbieviably good, they must have a down side.

I think it's assumed that, from the start, you have a military large enough to somewhat defend yourself. It's not like you start with absolutely nothing.

OOC: Agreed. It would be ridiculous to assume that a nation has no military of any kind at all. I always assume every new country has some form of arms manufacturing from day one. It's not like people have to roleplay the discovery of fire.

It is logical to assume that you have a relative military a weaposn program started. However bioweapons and inter continental weapons systems are just godsimming.
