Due to increases in military technology, and a desire to focus more funding on scientific pursuits, the Chairman has graciously reduced the required period of military service from 4 years to 3, effective immediately. While top generals expressed some concerns in the reduction of manpower, most conceeded that the loss of soldiers was more than offset by the improved performance of each soldier equipped with the latest in Calcednian military hardware.
Calcednie also recently established its navy last year, with the first battleship entering service yesterday. A commissioning ceremony held at the port city of Machiavelli was well attended, with all the people expressing their pride in their esteemed government.
