In preparation for a possible war with the goa'uld, new technology is being researched heavily. The hyperdrive is months away at best as Terra Pvlchra never developed it. Scientists are tesing a technique for entering hyperspace as we speak, though.

Current Capsule Corporation FTL Technology:
All larger Capsule Corporation ships, also known as the FoldShips, are equipped with a Space-Fold Drive. This drive consumes a great amount of energy, one we've only been able to provide with the Chlorophusion Power Technology (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66190), to pull two points in space together, allowing instant teleportation between two points. THis is called "Space-Fold" because it is much like the analogy of drawing two points on a piece of paper, then literally bringing the two points together by folding the paper rather than drawing a line between them. Obviously this ability grows significantly harder with distance, which is why our largest, most efficient Space-Fold Drive in existance is only able to reach a maximum of 500 light years.
For long range travel, all Capsule Corporation Ships (with the exception of the production short-range fighters) are equipped with Hyperdrives. Hyperspace ((this is the Star Wars type hyperspace I am speaking of)) is a plane of easy movement that exists slightly beneath normalspace. Propells you at high speeds through a "tunnel" of hyperspace you create with energy in your ship... the better the hyperdrive the faster it goes. Hyperdrive Multipliers is a scale relative to the average corvette... usually fighters can make a coefficient of 1, hot rods can make .5, and big capital ships can make around 6... Hyperdrive Multiplier=x1 = roughly 1,000,000c/1... as a simple rule, just divide 10^6c by the multiplier number.
And finally, for communication, Subspace Transceivers allow a ship to transmitt a message through subspace, an actual plane of existance completely beneath realspace. Lightspeed is almost instantaneous here, and thus, transmissions can be almost instantaneous. The average heavy Subspace Tranmsceiver has an active range of about 5,000 light years.
Recently out of the research (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84189&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=) stage is a mixture of the Hyperdrive and the Space Fold Drive, called the Cascading Hyperspace Fold Drive. This system is being installed on every FoldShip, and will allow mini fold jumps INSIDE hyperspace, allowing very rapid travel for FoldShips at about 10 Million C (1200 ly/hour) relative to realspace.

Slipstream isn't instantaneous. It's 10,000 times the speed of light. Transdimensional gateways are the instantaneous travel method. And there is no constant speed. There is no speed at all. It's just a device that fuses two points in space.

Everyone else uses hyperspace... at about 100,000c to 1,000,000c
And as for instant travel, nm, Lots of people use Stargates ;)
Warp speed is slower than that. Warp 9.9 is only about 1,000 times the speed of light (ref Voyager. 70 years to go 70,000 lightyears home with as little delay as possible).
Either way, hyperspace is faster, at least in star wars.
I won't contest that. Warp speed is my forte.
The hyperdrive in SW is around 20 million C.

Well, we maintain that our slipstream drives are most efficient. And efficiency is all that matters since we use our TD gateways for normal long-range travel.
Well, that's your choice.

LOL SW Hyperspace was NOT 20 millionc... it took about 2 weeks on an average ship to go from Tatooine (outer rim) to Coruscant (core)
If their galaxyt is the samer size as ours, that is definatle NOT 20 million times the speed of light. if you do the math, it's around ONE million c :)

Umm... Stardestroyer.net is a fansite, its not official. Every RPG, every sourcebook, and every movie implies that it is around 1 million... Weeks pass in hyperspace travel most of the time. Also, we don't know how how large their galaxy is.
Oh well, I don't know what i'm talking about, hyperspace is toooo inconsistent in star wars... it's just really fast :p
Put whatever number you wish on it.
