Due to the expansion of Isla de Penguinata across the galaxy, it is becoming difficult to maintain a republic across such a far distance. It is becoming increasingly hard to make sure that every corner of the nation gets what it needs. Therefore, it is imperative that a new form of government be put in place. Currently Isla de Penguinata is a representative democracy. Current plans have been submitted, and will be voted on by the public:

Constitutional Monarchy
Dominion
Empire

The most popular choice at this time appears to be Dominion. This government form is being defined by an Emperor and Empress that would be elected every 10 years. The Empress would be like a Vice President, who may be the candidate's wife. However, it could also be the other way around, with the Emperor being like the Vice President. At the moment, exit polls are showing the choice of Dominion soaring at 71%.

Candidates are being prepared, some single, some not. They will be introduced later. However, a new bureaucratic system will need to be implemented, and the following is one way that is suggested the government should be divided:

Kei Cho (25 yrs. old)
Conservative Party
Ms. Cho is considered a bright young lady, and she is very learned in matters of art, science, and international politics. Kei Cho first entered public service at the age of 19, when she ran for mayor of Arctique City-and won! Kei has brilliant economic ideas, and wants to restore Christianity back into the lives of all. Her platform consists of low taxes, low government regulation on business, and reinstating moral values into government. Kei Cho is supported by the current Administration.

Martin Black (72 yrs. old)
Liberal Party
Mr. Black is one of the most respected Senators in the nation. He has about 20 years of experience in government, and has served as Senator for 12. His clear-minded and well educated. He was a college professor for 6 years before entering public service. Martin has never let his own beliefs get in the way of following what the people want. During one important issue involving a trade agreement, Mr. Black did exactly the opposite of what he wanted for the sake of his constituents. Seen as an honest and kind person, Martin Black's liberal views don't keep him from being admired by Penguinatans across all political spectrums.

Jessica Van Retter (31 yrs. old)
Capitalist Freedom Party
Ms. Van Retter is a former Calvin Klein model, but has been active in government, serving as an aide to the current Defense Minister. She has very Conservative views on most social issues, and wants to abolish income taxes and business regulation. She is seen as a prime candidate, but some doubt her judgement. Jessica says that she is ready to lead, and wants to lead to help the Penguinatan people.

Elections will finish at 7:00 pm on October 27, 2003.

Update:

Kei Cho is in the lead at 43%, with Martin Black following closely at 39%. The other 18% have voted for Jessica Van Retter.

If Kei Cho is elected Empress, it will be the first woman of Asian descent to ever hold public office. She has accepted applications by Jennifer Coulten to become the future Minister of International Affairs. Ms. Cho has also sent requests to Martin Black that if he loses, for him to become Viceroy. Black's campaign so far has not made an official response, but the results look positive.

Yes, viceroy. Instead of an Emperor/Empress type government, there will be an Empress or Emperor, with the Viceroy acting as Vice President. :)

The election has ended early because of high turnout. The following is the results. They are in the least bit surprising:

Kei Cho: 51%
Martin Black: 45%
Jessica Van Retter: 4%

Kei Cho will be inaugurated on October 27, 2003. Martin Black is to become the Viceroy of DIDP (The Dominion of Isla de Penguinata), though a new acronym is to be introduced soon. This is seen as an outstanding victory for DIDP, as well as the current Administration, who supported Cho. Kei Cho is to make a victory speech soon, with Martin Black at her side.

The Holy Dominion congratulates you on your success. Although we are not fans of democracy, we congratulate you. And the Emperors son is lookin' foward to workin' with your new leader.

He is an honorable man, and though we have our political differences, we have worked together before, and we will prevail together now! Diversity is one which brings us together, not that which seperates us!

We congratulate Kei Cho on her victory and we are glad that Empress Cho sees the wisdom that Viceroy Black can offer from his many years of honest and loyal service to IdP. We are wondering what planets you plan to expand to.

The Empress thanks you graciously, and hopes for a meeting with several leaders soon (I'll post that seperately). We have discovered several planets, one which we are extremely interested in that we have named Pantura.

NEWTON, THARKAD--Today the first elected Empress was inagurated in a makeshift stadium in Newton, the temporary capital of PZT (Penguinatan Zone of Tharkad). Kei Cho, 25 years old, said today that her challenges were great, but planned to fight every issue she can. "It is not my role to lead this nation into prosperity, but ours. Together, we can build a prosperous dominion which all will awe." Empress Cho announced her concerns of building a strong infastructure, saying that "a planet cannot be pieced together if there are no roads to connect it." This is considered to be the most difficult challenge facing the Cho Administration, and she hopes to conquer it. Also on her agenda today were issues on healthcare and foreign policy. Cho announced her plans to hold an international summit, and the Empress said that she has "a little secret that may surprise long-time Penguinatan allies." Any hints? Other than saying that most of DIDPACs allies have never considered it a leader, she also commented on the fact for a pact of friends in this new era. In conclusion, many praised Empress Cho's speech today, saying that it was a marvelous piece of work.
