An era of dictatorship has fallen in Crossmouth. At the gates of the Royal Court, Lord Edward De Venus triumphantly strides out, holding his mighty sword in one hand and the head of his former master, the late King Rinkus, in the other. Stepping amoungst the bodies of his fallen comrades and enemies, De Venus raises the head of the shameful King for all to see. The soldiers cheer as they recognise their victory, it was finally over, after all the planning and their suprise assault on the court in Gertius, a new rule had been established in Crosslands in the form of Lord De Venus.
The coronation of Lord De Venus will commence as soon as he has proven his worth as a leader.
It was midnight and the Knights of Elba Untrod were sitting around a long, elegant table made of mahogany, with Lord De Venus at the head of the table.
They were discussing the new policies of the country and how the radical changes they would implement could be achieved.
The Knights at the table of this age old order were mostly new to the order, with two exceptions, Lord Saul Comit and Lord Bert Yare who had changed sides when the King died, the rest of the Order stayed faithful and therefore executed by De Venus' men.
"What shall we do about the lack of soldiers and guards? We need men to fend off the Lords still loyal to the King, that's still four Lords and their armies! If we defeat them with our eight combined armies, who will defend the country? If a foreigner decided to overthrow the country, he damn well could!" Exclaimed De Venus.
"Perhaps we should call in Mercenaries to fend off our enemy's and send in a smaller force of our own men against them?" Responded Sir Denoting Sotion
"I don't think our funds could afford that amount of merceneries when weighing in the costs of running the city and such. We'll need another plan, but I suppose we could hire a smaller group of mercenaries to help the cause along."
"Conscription maybe, sir?" Inquired Lord Snem Moscone
"Excellent idea! If we put our conscriptees in intensive training with our best men, we should be able to get them up to a standard where they can guard the city to a satisfactory standard! The enemy will have heard about this by morning and it will take them about 5 days to organize themselves and charge the city without us stopping them.
Right! It's decided! Lord Comit, you're in charge of conscription, I want one out of every fifteen men in the city conscripted, you can start tonight. Lord Yare, you can send for the mercenaries, I want to have 20,000 archers and 40,000 infantrymen to guard the city. And Lord Moscone, you are in charge of defending the city, call on as many men you want from any of the Lords. The rest of you, prepare for battle, I will have a battle plan by morning.
You're dismissed"
The Lords stood in respect and left, impressed at the leadership of their new leader.
