From the Diary of Don Juan Alejandro de Sanchez,
January 1, 1950,
At last, I have risen to power at the head of the beautiful tropical island of Tropico! The people loved me - I believed they took very very well to my final speeches against my opponent - the vile Eduardo Esteban - (not to mention a few ... ahh... let us say 'special' contributions on my part - heheh). Now I am el Presidenté, at last!
There is not much to see here, at first glances (the last three presidentés left the place in shambles), other than my palace, the remaining construction ministry and teamster's office, a dock, some farms, and a great many ugly shacks. Needless to say, this will change in time. My miner's background tells me, however, that Tropico might be extremely lucrative for socialist industry - I think there's gold in them thar hills!
Ahh well... I shall write more later - now el Presidenté must do a little... overview of the palace's wine cellar. I hear there's some fine, delicious, delectable...ahh.... *writing trails off*

Don Juan Alejandro de Sanchez
El Presidenté de la Républica de Tropico
----
Dear Nations of the world,
Whilst our honourable presidenté gets reacquainted with our last three presidentés' cider stores (or was it our last four? Five? Ay caramba, there have been so many presidentés...), let me, Guillermo Sotomayor - el Presidenté's personal advisor - introduce you to some of Tropico's fine leadership:
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-8/359341/Sh240002.jpg
This is Ximena Flores, the Diplomatic Advisor. She is 45 years old, and has the sharpest wit, harshest tongue, and lightest touch in all of Tropico (I know this from experience). If you'll be dealing with us, you'll have to talk to Mrs. Flores first.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-8/359341/Sh240001.jpg
This is Ramon Allendé, leader of the capitalists and el Presidenté's financial advisor. Rather unpopular, his skill at making money is nonetheless, an asset to our new Presidenté's grand plans for Tropico's future.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-8/359341/Sh240005.jpg
This is Pépé Gomez, leader of the egghea- erm I mean the Intellectuals, and the Science Advisor. A rather dapper, quiet old man of 67 years, he is almost certainly never wrong, though he can be quite curmudgeony at times.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-8/359341/Sh240004.jpg
This is Domingué Santiago del Fuego, leader of the militarist faction and military advisor to el Presidenté. With a predilection towards finely-rolled cigars, General del Fuego is not a man to be trifled with, for if his hot temper will not get you, his soldiers certainly will.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-8/359341/Sh240006.jpg
And finally, last, but not least, the beautiful Conchita Ruiz, Construction Advisor to the president, leader of the Communist Party, and certainly the most attractive of his cabinet. Don't let her prodigious -erm ahh well you know - decieve you, for Ms. Ruiz always manages to get the first and the last words in any argument.
This ends our brief introduction to our little island republic of Tropico. Best wishes, and buenos noches!
-Sincerely,
Guillermo Sotomayor,
Personal Advisor to El Presidenté
