Pantocratorian Elections

With the first election in sometime due to occur in Pantocratoria any day now, pollsters are predicting a win for the incumbent government, the Pantocratoria First Party.
At the start of the campaign, the Imperial Parliament was entirely occupied by members of the United Christian Front party, under the Chancellorship of HIH the Prince Basil however, a party-room coup led to the split of the United Christian Front into the Pantocratoria First Party and the Loyal Christian Front. The Pantocratoria First Party is led by HIH the Chancellor the Princess Irene, Prince Basil's sister, and the LCF is led by HIH the Prince Basil. Both leaders are the younger siblings of His Most Catholic and Imperial Majesty the Emperor Andreus.
The PFP was behind in the polls at first, but its blatant racism towards elves, a populist policy in the all-human Holy Empire of Pantocratoria, soon saw it start to gain ground on the LCF. Donations to the Cardinal Duras Memorial Fund saw the PFP equal the LCF's numbers in the polls. The PFP's numbers slumped a little with the declaration of war on Espario, but now that the war has been brought to such a quick conclusion, Princess Irene's approval numbers are extremely high. Her visit to the new Esperi government later this week will mark the climax of her campaign.
The only identifiable worry for the PFP is the controversial imprisonment of Bastianel Dephil for the assassination of Cardinal Duras.
Favoured leader polls:
HIH the Chancellor the Princess Irene - 67%
HIH the Prince Basil - 28%
Other - 5%
Favoured party polls:
Pantocratoria First Party - 56%
Loyal Christian Front - 40%
Other - 4%

If you have any questions about the policies of either party, please ask.
To the PFP: "Why do you hate elves so much?"
To both parties, "What is your position toward the South Atlantic Treaty Organization?"
God bless,

The PFP blames elves for the corruption of global human culture, for confounding human diplomacy, and for what it describes as the "many attrocities committed by elves against humans over the years". The PFP says that these attrocities are well-documented in the Iesus Christi film The Eternal Elf.
Neither party has formed a position on SATO. (OOC: I think I am probably too new to know much about it!)

Are there specific issues about which you'd like to know the stance of each candidate?
Both parties are fairly similar, both splitting apart from the United Christian Front party. They are both firm defenders of Imperial perogative, the established social order, the Catholic Church, and human rights (although the PFP doesn't extend these rights to non-humans).

Of course we support the Loyal Christian Front, as a matter of fact, if in the hypotetical case that Princess Irene approaches Aelosia, she is likely to be killed by a enraged crowd. In that hypotetical case, our goverment won't do nothing to help her, of course.
No, no, no, I meant information on the canidates themselves.

The PFP has described the position of Aelosia as "unfortunate, but understandable - nothing but base spite may be expected from elves!"
The LCF has welcomed the support of Aelosia, whom it describes as a "friend and ally which has been wronged, estranged and villified by the incumbent government."

His Imperial Highness the Prince Basil, Leader of the Opposition
The former head of the Imperial Government and president of the Loyal Christian Front party, Prince Basil is the brother of the Emperor Andreus I. He is 49 years old.
As Chancellor he never bothered to curry public support, since for the period of his government, democracy had been suspended in the Holy Empire of Pantocratoria. Despite this, he is fairly well-liked, but he isn't associated in the public's eye with any particularly popular or unpopular piece of policy.
He is married and has two daughters. His wife's name is Princess Jacqueline, and his daughters are called Princesses Helen (20) and Marie (18 ).

Chancellor of the Imperial Government, Princess Irene is the sister of the Emperor Andreus I, and is 51 years old. As former Ministry for Cultural Development under Prince Basil's government, Princess Irene was unpopular, and some described her as excessively pious, to the point of being an unreasonable zealot.
As Chancellor, she has instigated populist policies of making scapegoats out of non-humans, which have bolstered her popularity. She also led the country to a brief and relatively bloodless war against the Empire of Espario, which was committing acts of genocide against its minority caucasion population - the old Esperi regime was toppled and Princess Irene is helping the new Emperor of Espario rebuild his country with equal rights for all citizens.
Princess Irene has never been married, and has no children. Rumours persist that at a young age it was determined that Irene was barren, and her father the late Emperor Isaac V forbade her to ever marry as a result. She is accompanied almost everywhere by a priest named Father Michél Guillot, her confessor.

Interesting... Princess Irene is just about as different from me as the sun is to the moon.

Yes, but the Moon and the Sun are more alike than that. 8)
The sun, whose rays
Are all ablaze
With ever-living glory,
Does not deny
His majesty--
He scorns to tell a story!
He daren't exclaim,
"I blush for shame,
So kindly be indulgent."
But, fierce and bold,
In fiery gold,
He glories all effulgent!
I mean to rule the earth,
As he the sky--
We really know our worth,
The sun and I!
I mean to rule the earth,
As he the sky--
We really know our worth,
The sun and I!
Observe his flame,
That placid dame,
The moon's Celestial Highness;
There's not a trace
Upon her face
Of diffidence or shyness:
She borrows light
That, through the night,
Mankind may all acclaim her!
And, truth to tell,
She lights up well,
So I, for one, don't blame her!
Ah, pray make no mistake,
We are not shy;
We're very wide awake,
The moon and I!
Ah, pray make no mistake,
We are not shy;
We're very wide awake,
The moon and I!

What does the average Pantocratorian think about these elections? Not much at all!
Pantocratoria is ranked 73rd in the region and 65,265th in the world for Most Politically Apathetic Citizens.

Pantocratorian voters will be casting their votes at their local parish church after Mass on Sunday. Every Pantocratorian who has reached the age of majority is allowed to vote. Pantocratorians do not enrol to vote - when they come to the church to vote, they bring their national ID card with them, which is scanned in with a barcode scanner, and checked against the Pantocratorian Catholic Church's baptism records. Therefore, if you've been baptised in Pantocratoria, and you're a Pantocratorian subject, you're automatically enrolled to vote in elections.
Using a preferential voting system, in which the voter indicates their first, second, third, etc through to last preferences of local representative, each parish's Member of Parliament (or MP) is determined by counting votes until an absolute majority is attained by one member.
The newly elected MPs then meet in the Imperial Parliament in New Rome to form a government. A new chancellor is appointed when an absolute majority of parliamentary members agree on that chancellor - this is obviously usually along party lines. If the PFP gets a majority, Princess Irene's government will remain in place, but if the LCF gets a majority, it will appoint Prince Basil as the Chancellor of the Holy Empire of Pantocratoria.
