Mulieriseduleta's quandry: too many lions or too many people

23-10-2003, 07:56
We appreciate the international concern for our lion population. Rest assured their numbers are in control and the lions are vigorous and healthy. The problem that brings our lions into unsafe contact with our citizens is shrinking habitat. Our beef industry requires vast areas of grazing land especially as sparce as our land is. Under pressure from the women of PeTA and the SPCA, we considered banning the raising of cattle, but beef exports are a major source of revenue to our economy.

It is actually the population of our citizens which seems to be burgeoning. It seems like only yesterday the population stood at a comfortable five million and overnight has become seven million. Our population explosion stems from the fact that a full 34% are women between the ages of 20 and 50: prime child-bearing years. Our children make up 33%; our elderly, 15%; with adult males being only 18% of the population. The strain on our social services and infrastructure funding has led to an insentive-chilling, economy-killing tax rate of 29%and higher.

Interestingly enough, it was the women of PeTA and the SPCA who may have come up with a solution to our problem. After our legislation committees deliberate the issue, we will reveal it to you, our neighbors.
