Operation Archangel Unveiled:

Government officals unveiled plans for the most comprehensive military building in the Federal Republic's history. Focused solely on the Federal Republic Stellar Navy, the plan calls for several steps to be completed by a certain time, or even has backup plans in order to allow the project to go alittle later than normal. Only phase I of the plan has been unveiled at the moment and currently we have recieved words that the first parts of Phase I are already underway.

Phase I-Operation Archangel
Using the vast financial resources of the Federal Republic in areas of trade, and special taxes an orbital facility. A berth, a shipyard. From which our own citizens who have lost jobs can work to help spur the development of the rest of the navy. The initial cost of the shipyard while seeming much(4 tril FRD) will more than make up for it in the end, with the number of new jobs created (120k-200k) and the fact that the shipyards will be able to produce all of our current vessels. Including several of our allies vessels should they need the shipyard for there own purposes.

The shipyard is to double as a Fleet Command and Control facility with the latest logistical and information relay systems available. It will be the main GHQ for the FRSN, and will represent NYNJs contiual strive toward technological superority over hostile and advisarial nations. The shipyard however is not to be used for commerical purposes. Freighters built in the SY, will either be for the military, or will be sent to the Merchant Marine Fleet. None will be sold to other nations, outside of those allied, and none will be sold to corporations, even those within NYNJ's borders are excluded.This is to prevent competition for yard space and to spur corporations in NYNJ to build their own shipyards further spurring job growth.

The project is to begin as soon as approved and is expected to last 2-3 years. There is no backup plan should the plan run over schedule. However should it be completed before, it is advised that the government wait before annoucing the start of Phase II Operations in order for the economy of NYNY to recover and catch up with the addition of a brand new city in space. Chimera Station, will be NYNJs first orbital installation and will be borrowing many principles of construction from other nations and various international space station projects.

Construction is proceeding as scheduled. Budget constraints are proving to be more flexable than we first believed. Shuttle pilots are arriving on or ahead of schedule. More workers will be needed soon though. We're getting flooded with parts and equipment and we dont have the manpower to use all of it. Also we need more EVA suits. Lack of suits is hampering space walks and we're being forced to wait till areas are sealed before we're able to work on the inside. If we get the workers and EVA Suits we'll be able to knock off months from the construction time. Further good news is that the fighter production facility is completed. However residental facilities arent even anywhere near completed so no workers can be sent up. We'll try to close the gap and hopefully you'll be able to send up the first of the civilian populace soon. More reports will come when we have progessed further.

Chimera Station Opens-

After several delays stemming from budget cuts to a shortage of fuel for the shuttle launches Chimera Station finally openned its airlock to civilian vessels. This is however of no real surprise to anyone as passengers had already begun to make the transition from earth up to the orbital city of 250,000 residents. The massive shipyards the first of their kind for the Federal Republic are expected the remove the need of outside assistance when it comes to the construction of stellar based vehicles. The three main classes of vessels, the SDDN Kidd class, the SCGN Battlewagon class and SCVN John F Kennedy class have all been built by outside sources.

Admiral Joseph Kellar of the Federal Republic Stellar Navy was quoted as saying, "It is about time the FRNYNJ got its own orbital shipyard. We've been behind other smaller nations in terms of building up and Chimera Station will allow us to catch up. Chimera Station has already begin its first projection, construction of a Destroyer Group. These Destroyers will be the first of many vessels to leave these yards."

Our own reporter responded with, "Will Chimera station be used solely for the construction of warships?"

"No, this station is to become the new Fleet Command Headquaters for the FRSN, and is capable of repairing damaged warships when not building new warships. I'm not sure however if we plan on building civilian vessels. Its one of those things that we'll just have to wait and see."

Chimera Station also houses several assembly lines, ranging from simple household manufacturing centers to an SA-43 assembly line. Of which was not included in the original design and is unconfirmed but the reason why it took so long for the station to finally be open to the general public. Chimera Station is expected to be guarded by the combined Federal Republic Stellar Navy with the exception of the SCVN 2801 FRSN Colin Powell which remains on the edge of the Solar System guarding the Research Station Nomad Moon on the celestial body of Charon.

The launching ceremonies for the eight vessels were short and kept rather low profile. The vessels would be given quick shakedowns and rushed into service before their greyish black paintjobs had time to even cool. The registry numbers and names would be catalouged in the Naval Archives on Earth. All of the vessels had already been assigned to Battlegroups as well which they would join up with at their respective locations once their shakedown cruises had been completed. Already though as those vessels left the Staryards a new production series was beginning two John F Kennedy class Carriers and a Fort Washington class SCGN.

Chimera Staryard,Earth Orbit:

"Get those Carriers clear of the births!Quickly people we are on wartime footing now." The dock master screamed his orders down to the workers who were just getting clear of the Carrier as the final crew members streamed onto the warship. The air locks closed and the docking clamps were released. The SCVN-2808 Ticonderoga and the SCVN-2809 Nimitz had been given quick commissioning cermonies to insure naval tradition and luck before they were rushed out to the sea of stars. From the planet side below a steady stream of SA-43 Hammerheads which were based planetside began to take up their new homes on the Carriers. They wouldnt stay long however, their orders for certain were about to take them into harms way.

Ticonderoga Bridge:

"Commodore Gearing, the last of the fighter squadrons is aboard the Nimitz. Her skipper signals she is ready to deploy with us."The radio officer announced from his station before going back to the diagonistic checks which were being rushed through.
"Alright,patch me through on the deck speakers...This is Commodore Phillip Gearing, to all hands, prepare for departure from Earth Orbit.Man your battle stations, repeat man your battle stations.Flight crews are to prepare as many fighters for launch as possible.Marines are to gather at designated ground assault posts and await further orders.That is all... Helm, once we've cleared the gravitational pull activate the Eckerly drive. And get us to Mars best possible speed."

The two Carriers moved from the Staryards and began to make the best possible speed away from Earths gravitational pull. The effects of gravity on a ship which planned on using its Eckerly drive were to say less than enjoyable. The ship would literally crush in on itself. It had happened with several prototypes even killing the drives creator,Dr. Janice Eckerly. For now they used their fusion drives to escape the pull of Earth, and when they were away they activated the drive which began to send them forward faster passing one gravity...then two..then three...the ships speed stablizied at 3.5 gravs and they would be upon Mars within the day.

It was common practice now, as ships cleared the space docks on their trial runs new ships were already being laid down. The shipyards foreman sighed and mumbled something about "No rest for the wicked" to himself. The navy had promised that this next rotation of warships would be the last ones before major production would transfer over to the smaller, less time consuming SA-43 production lines. It was a welcomed relief, the SA-43 production lines were smaller and would give many of the people here some deserved vacation time. They were already working their limit and it was visable in how much delayed the ships were are the unions went on strike several times before concessions were made.

"Four more Carriers...what's this? SCVN-2813...Empress Sirithil, god someone is trying to kiss up." The foreman thought about it for a few seconds then laughed alittle. "Who knows maybe we'll finally get our hands on a gravametric drive."

The quad-Carriers were launched in no fancy ceremony. They were additions to the navy and rushed into service as quickly as possible. The dockworkers however celebrated as if these were new accomplishments. They celebrated not so much because of the new Carriers, they celebrated because they were getting much needed pay vacations. Across the board the dock workers were allowed to relax and either return Earth side or go our all expenses paid to hotels on Mars belonging to nations allied with the Federal Republic.

Aboard the lead Carrier the SCVN-2810 Captain Joseph Shake sent a message to the other three Carriers in the formation. "This is Captain Shake aboard the Bunkerhill, prepare to embark Army and Marine Units from the service. Let's get this done quickly folks. I want to deploy on manuvers soon. We're forming the Core of the 3rd Fleet, and I have the Flag. We're going to proceed at sublight speed toward Mars, we should be there within two weeks. We'll circle around Mars and head back to Earth using the Eckerly Drives. We'll get underway soon as the last ISSAPC has finished with its transfer. Shake out."

The Federal Republic Stellar Navy is intrigued by the proposal. We currently could use the SB-43 as we lack any sort of real bomber. The SA-43 however is a multirole craft. So we have little need for the other versions you have designed. The ISSAPC also modified services as an effective Electronic Warfare Picket. We will be glad to meet to discuss usage of the shipyard and the openning of diplomatic relations between our two nations.

At any rate, we feel that an opening of diplomatic and industrial talks would be mutually benificial for both of us. I am prepared to assign a Diplomatic Representitive for the Empire as well as some science and engineeres from Aero-Tech/IVA Industries. As stated, we have been in the SA business for awhile and may be able to provide you some "solutions", if not at least a reduction in cost and time. I would like to add, that we also have experiance in the Carrier and ISSAPC/ISSCV construction, thus we have already "secured" material sources which could be passed onto you and translate into even larger savings.

OOC: The other SA's we carry are not as "modified" as you suspect. The SA-45 and SA-48's are actually the "British" version of the SAAB series. Though the SA-45 and 48 Spitfires were not as reconized as much as the "Hammerheads", (Due to the majority of the Series focusing on US Earth tech), they were still used with a certain degree of advantages and disadvantages. I'll try and dig up the SAAB site that listed each (Earth) nations equipment during the Chig wars.

Out in space, a lone Probe sat, un-manned, but with a rudimentery AI program, the small droid whatched as the NY&J fleet was built.

Aboard the SCVN-2813 Empress Sirithil:

"Commodore Nolan, I'm picking up a faint signature on the LIDAR, she isnt space debries, and she is to far from Earth to be a sat." The young female LIDAR officer called back to the CO of the vessel who was looking over the daily report. They had been waiting for the MacAuthur class transports to finish loading up crews from the surface as they were going to go to Mars and pick up the first 25 additions to the Federal Republic Stellar Navy fleet.

"What is it Lieutenant?" The LIDAR Officer attempted to get the signatures profile and had some limited success on it. "It appears to be either a beacon or a probe. Whatever it is, it isnt one of ours." The Commodore took a few moments to think about it before he walked over toward the helmsmen. "Helm set us on an intercept course, we're going to bring the probe aboard ship. CAG have an ISSAPC launch to recover it and bring it aboard. I want our engineering teams to take that thing apart to see where the hell it came from."

"Aye Aye Skipper" It was only a matter of moments before the ISSAPC launched with a team of SpaceBee Military Engineers. The transport vessel carried on it a modified cargo pod used normally for insertions and retrevial of objects, it was going to be put to use now on the probe. Stopping to hover over it the ISSAPC pilot gently manuvered the transport craft so that the docking ring was facing the probe. The dorsal thrusters kicked online when that was accomplished and the outer docking hatch openned gobbling up the probe before it closed once more and the inner hatch openned up. The SpaceBees looked down wearing NBC warfare suits the thing would need to go through decon before they brought it back to the ES, or Empress as the nicknames for the crew had been given to the vessel affectionately.

This was all the easy part, the hard part was yet to come when they cannablized it.

The SpaceBees groaned as the satellite was given the decon treatment and any threat of radiation was eliminated. The ISSAPC returned back to the Empress Sirithil the SpaceBees already getting to work at the task ahead. Standard procedure was to use bomb detectors on the device to ensure that if it was booby trapped they could at least try not to set off the bomb. The lead engineer decided that the ISSAPC docking with the ES wouldnt be such a good idea and it went into a holding pattern awaiting the results of the bomb detector test. Of course such a small device wouldnt really be able to have much of a powerful explosive if they managed to actually even fit any.

ISSAPC,In a holding pattern to land on the Empress Sirithil(SCVN-2813):

"The bomb detector aint picking up a thing Sarge...." The SpaceBees had gathered around the probe now, minus the lead suits they had all the standard equipment to start ripping the thing apart. One of the SpaceBees moved on the probe with a torch and lowered a protective mask over his face and got on a knee. "Open up baby, lets see what you got." Applying the blow torch to the hull of the probe the SpaceBee began to cut away a porition of the outer hull where scans relieved the probes computer to be. The lead SpaceBee a Sargeant Jinkens watched over the entire process. The ISSAPC moved to dock once more with the Empress Sirithil getting rushed below deck by the crew of the Carrier. Already engineers had set up to assist the SpaceBees.

Of course they didnt need much assistance, they easily burned through the hull of the probe and got to the computer on the inside. The soldier with the torch stepped away and allowed for another soldier to move into his spot. "This isnt terribly sophisticated Sarge. Its navigation computer is probably rudimentary as well." Jenkins didnt like the sound of that and moved behind the engineer his arms crossed over his chest. "Well do you think you can still get the location where it came from?" "Oh but of course Sarge. It would have probably went in a straight line or heck even zigged abit. So that means it would have had to had its nagivation computer plot a course. If its as easy as the AI then we can get a location in a heart beat."

Jenkins nodded, now that was a pleasent surprise and he stepped back as engineers from the ship began to board the ISSAPC and hook computers up to the probe. They would try and crack the AI and get its navigational chart as soon as possible. There was a pleasent surprise they wanted to give the so called loyalist forces. The Empress Sirithil being joined by slightly more than two dozen new warships, of course none of them left the Chimera Staryards. They were purchased elsewhere but few knew that fact.

The computer the beacon was attached to did its work and cracked the AI translating elven to english automatically.The SpaceBees had turned over the operation from the beacon to the ships engineers who were remarkably better when it came to computer skills than the SpaceBees who were just Combat Engineers. Of course the beacons AI was rudimentary as was the navigation computer, however the navigation computer did have the locations where it was launched from. Not having been launched from a ship, it came from a base. Who'd the base belong to was a different story.

"Commodore Colvin, this the engineering deck,we got the location where the beacon was launched. But we dont know who launched it. The beacon doesnt have any real specific information as to who owns the thing." Colvin thought for a moment as he looked around on the bridge, the 1st and 2nd Fleets were busy, as was the NMDF, there simply wasnt enough ships in the Fleet to deal with everything that came up. However, there was always the newer warships entering service. Another 20 ships had been added to the fleet, and the number coming online at Mars was increasing steadily. Those ships were immediately pushed into service with a fleet and it was having a dramatic result on the morale of the navy. Commodore Colvin knew what he was going to do. "Helm, prepare to get underway, contact the Halsey and the rest of the 3rd Fleet not on operations, we're going to pay whoever sent the probe a surprise."
