A recently disclosed project from Capsule Corporation's Faster-Than-Light developments agency has some promising news. They are currently working on a prototype of what they are calling a "Cascading Hyperspace Fold Drive." This was brought about by receiving information that the Disciples of the Red Dragon, CC's current major threat, has obtained an alien technology of great speed. This upgraded FoldShip drive should be able to match it, with an estimated top speed of a whopping Ten Million C, or over 1200 Light years per hour. This is about 25 times as fast as the current FoldShip Hyperdrives.
So what is this thing? Well, a mixture of current CC FTL Technologies (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1882087#1882087), this hybrid type drive enters a ship into hyperspace as normal, then travels through hyperspace using a series of short fold jumps... essentially, folding hyperspace, and doing it several times in a row, using short jumps one right after another, at a cycle of about 20 jumps per minute. These jumps add up, increasing the hyperspace speed by a good 25 times the normal X4 hyperdrive. Of course, the energy requirements and cooling requirements on this drive are very extensive, and can only be handled using the same capabilities of the Fold-Capable Capital Ships. The average Fold ship, after a short upgrade to their engine programming (the new system runs on basically the same existing drives, but ties them together) should be able for up to 2 hours without having to stop to cool and recharge it's capacitors.
The only physical upgrade this drive requires is a new Heavy Capacitor Array that installs directly into the Main engines. This modular piece of equipment is not hard to produce, and not hard to install.
It is estimated, that after prototype testing at the end of this year, the Capsule Corporation will start upgrading their ships with this drive technology immediately, with a full refit of all ships in less than a year after that.
The first vessel targetted for this modification (after the prototype) is the CCSS Aaron, a special missions ship currently in overactive service, desperately in need of this new Drive.
