Continued Occupation of Esamopia by Reich Forces.

OOC: This thing went awry a while ago now it is restarting.

*Ruins of Esamopia City, Esamopia*

The Black armoured staff car rolled down the rubble strewn streets of the city. Its driver squinted to see through the dismal rain that was pattering against the window and the broken buildings outside. It was not a hard rain by any means, nor was it really a soft one. It was just enough to bring one's spirits down and drive the less than brave indoors. The sunlight was patchy at best as the clouds obscured most of it and left the city in a dull gray light.

Reich food wagons were on every corner feeding the starving Esamopians with lavish amounts of food...likely not had by them for a long time. Hospital trucks were in convenient locations as Reich engineers braved the rain to restore power and minimal operating capacity to the bombed out hospitals and shelters.

The car rode through a puddle in the road where water had pooled in a large pothole. The car jolted a bit moving through it and splashed water onto a lifeless hand which was protruding awkwardly from a nearby pile of rubble. Immediately as it passed, rescue teams saw the hand and began to feverishly move debris only seconds later to check the hand's pulse and discover there was none. Reich guards on motorcycles were at both ends of the column and two more black staff cars followed behind the lead one.

Rain made small beads on the faceplates of the motorcyclists and the images of bulldozers moving debris, men searching for victims to rescue, and the familiar sight of Reich guards patrolling the streets. They passed by a long stretch of new buildings whose lights contrasted sharply with the previous hellhole. Reich Businesses had moved in to Esamopia to provide work. Even Reich minimum wage was likely more than they had made before. Several restaurants had opened up along with a few manufacturing facilities, hotels for foreign dignitaries, stores and shops, and even the occasional coffee house stood ready to do business. This was the rich side of town...for now. Soon, the entire town would be like this, only better.

The cars rode on. Some looked away as the Reich column passed, some cry. A small little boy dressed in rags approached one of the many Reich troops patroling the streets of Esamopia and stood exageratingly tall and gave a very stiff salute to the soldier all while smiling widely. The soldier picked up the little boy and both their eyes lit up. "You know," he said to the boy, "you probably don't understand me...but I have a boy just like you at home." The child smiled brightly, obviously oblivious to what he was saying. The soldier put him on his back and gave him a piggyback ride a little down the street. Their laughter rang like a bell throughout that black place. It almost covered the stench of death which still hung precipitously in the air.

Still, the cars rode on. They rode up to the recently refurbished former party headquarters, the Reich flag aloft in the breeze above its elaborate facade. The lead car rode over an Esamopian flag. It was laying in the centre of the road, soaked entirely with water. It left a black tiremark on it as it passed through. The other cars passed over it as well. One of the motorcyclists swerved to run over it. They pulled up to the steps and the convoy came to a dead stop.

The drivers' doors of the three staff cars opened almost at once as the chauferrs, emaculately dressed in Wehrmacht uniforms, opened the back passenger doors. Two large patent leather jackboots clicked against the damp pavement as the man in the first car got out. The Reich guards along with the few Esamopians that had volunteered for service in police duty looked this fellow up and down. He was dressed in a bright red, gold embroidered, double breasted Royal Guard uniform with an elaborate sword at his side. He donned a bicorne similar to that of Napoleon as he exited the car, adjusted it slightly on his head then walked forward, beads of water catching in his white beard and mustache. Obviously a man of age and experiance.

The man in the second car was obviously a Puritain minister. He was clad all in back excepting his white clerical collar. He clutched a large, leather bound, Geneva Bible to his chest and followed after the first man. He was clean shaven and about 30 years of age.

The driver of the third car opened his door and a sight that quite contrasted with the sight of the first man was then before all who watched. A young man of about twenty, clad in worn out black leather jack boots and an old wind-beaten Royal Guard Private's uniform walked out and followed after the others.

They all entered the building and a man in a jet black uniform approached them. They read the title on his chest, "Reichskommisar". He was obviously the man in charge. The older gentleman in the red uniform bowed deeply in an exaggerated courtly manner as he doffed his hat, introducing himself formally as, "Majour General Otto Hoffsteader, appointed by the King to oversee military operations of the Wehrmacht and the restoration of the Esamopian military."

The Minister bowed also and introduced himself, " I am reverend Mathew Pritchett, sent to oversee the conversion of the heretics and Communists in Esamopia and to be religious advisor to the government."

The rather plainly dressed man extended his hand to the Reichskommisar and said warmly, "Put 'er there!" the Kommisar was taken aback but did shake his hand. "I am Prince Will Thompson III," at this the Kommisar bowed deeply, obviously shocked, "I was sent here to handle the political administration and rebuilding of Esamopia into a model state. Oh, and by the way...you don't really have to kneel."

The Kommisar rose up and saluted them and said to them, "Follow me to your offices."

RUINS OF ESAMOPIA CITY, ESAMOPIA

Inside one of the few buildings left standing, the United Alliance for Democracy (or UAD) had an emergency meeting. A formerly outlawed group (by the former regime,) some of its surviving members formerly imprisoned in Esamopia City were able to escape when a V-4 missile exploded nearby the prison in which they were held, giving them both the time and opportunity to escape.

"Order order... I know everyone is eager to discuss our next move, but we must retain some sembelance of order should we wish to get anything done!" A distinguished looking fellow, approximately 65 years old and a white beard, completely bald, addressed the small gathering. "Some of our leaders were executed by the Commies when they suspected our group of arranging the attack... I was Party Secretary, but that hardly qualifies me to lead... I am an old man and I would just like to see democracy come to my fair nation before my death. I am willing to support anyone who fights for Esamopian Democracy!"
"DIE TRAITOR!" A young man, with a crimson face, howled this as he pulled out a pistol. He was only a few feet away from the Party Secretary, and then all that was heard was "BANG."

Fortunately for the Secretary, the shot came from the Sgt. At Arms, who was able to act fast enough to kill what turned out to be a former intelligence officer of the former regime. Even after the regime's collapse he continued his mission... a pity, as the new regime would certainly love to have such committed members.

"I propose" a young woman, 28 years of age, dressed in business attire, rose. She was one of the few women in the group, as most had been intimidated by the former regime... but she had an iron will, when she spoke those words, it sounded more like "I declare!"
"I propose that we write ourselves a constitution, present it to the Reich's HQ, and see if they'll recognize us as the new government. At the very least we may be able to gain their support or know their intentions."

The bold proposition was not without risk, for one thing, the group did not know of the whereabouts of the former government, and with that intelligence officer deep within their midst, no one felt secure. Furthermore, who knew how the Reich would react? Certainly some have said that it has a capitalistic economy, something the UAD stood for, but very little was known... the proposal could simply send whatever representatives of this group in jail, or worse...

Seeing mostly apathy, the young woman (Sardina) went into a furious diatribe:

"You cowards! How do you propose we even attempt govern a nation of nearly a billion souls without taking some risks? I am ashamed to be a part of the UAD!"

Sardina was on her way to the door, when the old Secretary stopped her. "Sardina, please wait. It is just that we have been through so much that we don't feel secure enough for such a big step. Please understand."
"Understand?! The only thing I understand is that we have dreamed for this day, a day in which the government's oppression would be put to an end and we would be able to govern a free Esamopia! Now that this miracle has come, you cannot even stand up! Shame on you all!!"

Before Sardina could exit the room, the Party Secretary spoke: "A proposal for writing a constitution to be submitted by our new President, Sardina Olivia!" Sardina was shocked to see that nearly all the hands of those assembled went up.

So the gambit worked... I am now the leader of the UAD!

The group then went about appointing other members to work with Sardina to make a constitution, and then, decided to meet in a more secure location next time.

OOC: Reich will back them, put them out in the open. But the Reich, out of kindness, will not make them the official government unless they are voted in by means of an official and fair plebesicte.

IC: *Reich Governmental Headquarters; Esamopia City, Esamopia*

Prince Will Thompson III sat at his desk on the 5th floor. He looked over the section of the city he could see from his relatively low floor. He didnt want a high one incase it should be attacked...he also didn't want one on the ground floor. The quarter of the city with the Reich headquarters in it was rebuilt pretty well. Cars were flowing to and fro. It was night time and the traffic lights haunted the streets with their neon glow. Three men ran through the streets below the old party headquarters where the new Reich headquarters is now. They carried arms full of expensive Helmut Cole shoes and purses. They had obviously robbed some store. Three more men came running through carrying televisions sets they had looted from houses in the area. A crime wave was beginning.

Some of the men in the streets saw this display. One picked up a brick and hurled it through a large glass display window to one of the stores that had recently opened. He climbed in and began to steal things out of the window display as others went in and began to loot from inside the store.

A siren cut the night like a knife as three Reich armoured cars rushed down the street and a column of Akillian troops from Legione X, which was based in Esamopia now, poured out of an alleyway. Over the megaphone the head of the Reichskamphian Commander yelled out to the crowd, "Drop your stolen items and report to us for inspection and you will be allowed to return to your homes safely. Three men began to run quickly away from the Reich police. A Royal Army Rifleman perched on top of the car leveled the sights of his rifle with the head of the theif and squeezed off a round, bursting his head like a ripe tomato and sending him crumpling to the ground. In quick succession there were two more shots and the two others fell.

The rest of the men raised their hands in the air and dropped their things. The looting of the store stopped. They were all inspected. Those who were trying to sneak things away were reprimanded, had their items confiscated, then sent on their way just as those who had nothing were sent on their way. The stolen items were sent back to the Police Headquarters to be returned to their rightful owners.

Prince Will turned back to his paperwork after the scene had played itself out. He took a paper into his hand. It was a bill presented to him by the appointed members of the Esamopian Cabinet, all themselves Esamopians. Its title was, "Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press". At the same time as it removed restrictions on speech against the government and allowed the Press to print what it would, it established a new ring of Newspapers and television stations to replace those that were no more. Many of them were already in place and only needed to be funded to come back into operation. Some supported Reich policy, some did not support the Reich policy; but all were to be funded equally by the Reich. He picked up his pen. Turned to the back page and found the line where he was to sign. He signed Prince William Andrew Thompson III in a very calligraphic style with many flourishes. Something a bit odd to be seen coming from a man of his rumpled and ordinary appearance. He was, however, a child of the aristocracy.

*Countryside of Esamopia*

Gefreiter (Corporal) Hans Kempling wiped the sweat from his brow with a time worn brown leather gloved hand, placed it back on the hand plow, and pushed forward, splitting the earth like an icebreaker ship. Giant chunks of dirt and rock cleaved before his mighty blade. Little worms sprang up from the soil, some escaping, some being plowed under to feed the crops and the birds.

An old lady with a red bandanna tied over the top of her head to shield her from the sun brought a glass of ice water to Kempling. The sides beaded with condensation, he greedily grasped it and downed it, sighing out quickly, "Thankyou, Mrs. Valovski!"

"Thankyou, Hans!" Mrs. Valovski cooed back, "We couldn't have brought in the harvest last year without you and I dont know how we'll get along without you when you're gone!"

Hans Kempling had been boarding with the Valovskis ever since the beginning of the occupation. Their farm was dead. They were too old and tired to do the hard manual labour so Hans helped them to feed their grandchildren who had unfortuntaley been left without parents due to a Reich attack on one of the cities. He plowed the fields and harvested when the time came while Mr. Valovski worked with the chickens, milking the cows and other such things. They had previously not had livestock, but Hans was able to secure some for them from a Reich supplier for free since he was in the Wehrmacht. The children inside churned at the butter made from the cows milk and kept tidy while Mrs Valovski cooked and looked after the children. This was not an uncommon sight to see out in the countryside. Reich soldiers boarded with common Esamopians and the Reich improved the lives all those in the country three fold by providing food and work and allowing them to tend their own crops and not be forced into communal state farms. Two days out of the week, the Reich soldiers boarding with Esamopians in the Countryside would mass and do maneuvers to keep sharp and if there was a situation, they were called up, but most of the time, Hans was on the farm, now bigger than ever, giving a helping hand.

Hans began to push forward the plow again. Another row finished. He turned it about and began to push again. Mr. Valovski came limping from the cow shed, put two fingers to his old, pursed lips and let forth a shrill whistle. "Come on in, Hans! Ain't no sense in workin' yourself to death! There'll be plenty of plowin' time tommorow!" Hans sighed deeply and began to amble inside. He ascended the creaky wooden steps and flung open the screen doors. One of the three children, a small girl whom he had become especially fond of, named Tatiana hid beside the door, just out of sight. As he crossed the threshold to the livingroom and took a couple steps inside he felt a smack against his legs. The little girl had snuck up behind him, jumped, and was now clinging fiercely to his legs. He smiled a bright smile and he looked down at her, giggling with joy. She had not seen the V-4 attacks.

He pryed her loose with ease as she concentrated and tried with great persistance to remain attached. He lifted her over her head and sat her upon his shoulders. He grabbed onto her legs and she to his hair. He bounced up and down and trotted through the small living room into the kitchen like a horse. She continued to laugh gleefully, a bright twinkle emblazoned upon her striking sky blue eyes.

Hans lovingly unseated her from his shoulders and placed her in a chair at the table, sliding her up closer. Mrs. Valovski sat a huge pot of steaming Borscht on the table and the other children got bowls out and set them at all of the places. The children took their places as the busy Mrs Valovski finally took it upon herself to sit down and relax. Mr. Valovski looked at Hans and gave a nod. Hans then looked at little Tatiana, no more than three, but looking a bit younger, and said, “Do you remember what I taught you?”

“Yes, sir!” she said smiling widely. She began, “Our fazer who art in heaven hallowed be zye name...zye kingdom come, zye Will be done, on Earse as it is in Hebben. And forgive us our tresspasses as ve forgive zose who tresspass against us. Und lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for zine is ze power and ze glory forever and ever, Amen.” She mimicked his German accent not out of a desire to make fun of the way he spoke, but because she knew no better. That is how she was taught the Lords prayer.

After the wonderful dinner, they all sat in the living room around Hans while he read to them out of his Geneva Bible. Being a good Puritan, he always carried one with him. They were not allowed to read the Bible or pray during the Communist years. Religion was forbidden as it is in most Communist states. Infact, inorder to keep the peasants in their place, the party had kept alot of the peasants illiterate. The selection tonight was from the Gospel of John. As he read, such emotion filled his eyes. He related the gospel like the greatest story that was ever told, and in some senses it was. They were captivated by the message of the son of God who loves all mankind and came to die for not just someone else’s sins, but theirs as well and will welcome them into heaven when they pass on. After Hans finished reading, Tatiana yelled excitedly, beating Hans to the punch at reciting his usual prayer, “May ze Lord bless ze reading and ze hearing of his vord!” she laughed as if she had just pulled some great joke on him. He picked her up and kissed her on the forehead. Mr. Valovski yelled out, “Allright youngins! It’s time for bed! Get in your beds and go to sleep!” The children all rushed off to the room where their beds were. They knelt down infront of their bed with their pajamas on and said as Hans had taught them, their prayers. They prayed for peace, for good crops, for Mrs. Valovski to make a cake tomorrow, for God to say hello to their Momma and Poppa in heaven. They prayed for the Valovskis and thanked God for giving them such great guardians.

Hans and the Valovskis leaned against the wall outside of the entrance to the room, eavesdropping. The Valovskis smiled when they heard their names. The children continued and asked for Hans to not have to leave. They asked if God could let him stay. Hans said a prayer, thanking God for being blessed to meet the Valovskis and their wonderful Grandchildren and closed the door to the Children’s room.

Sardina looked over the Constitution and decided that it was an inspiring document and would create a strong government... where the former regime could never rise again. She quickly placed the finished work into her briefcase and headed for the Reich's HQ...
Reichskamphen
03-11-2003, 03:33
OOC: It is a bit lengthy....I agree....but it has to be done.

IC: Sardina was brought before the Royal High Prefect of Esamopia, His Royal Highness, Prince William Andrew Thompson III. He looked her up and down and determined her to be a sound person of great intelligence...and quite a beatiful girl.

He took the proposed Constitution from her and examined it. He placed his glasses on the brim of his nose which, though he was only 20, made him look a man of greater age. He took a deep breath and looked over his glasses at Sardina. "This is a truly wonderful document. I will have to insist that there be a few changes though."

Sardina's disgust was apparant at the Prefect's nitpicking of what she thought to be a sound document. "First, the best way to prevent the re-establishment of the old regime is to de-centralize authority a bit. The office of Premier is too powerful. If attained by the wrong man, then it could mean the rebirth of the Communist Esamopia. The Premier must not be allowed to rule for life...and yes, I realize the irony of what I am saying. But your situation is much differant than the one in my country."

He sat at his computer console and began to type. "The Premier must have terms. He cannot rule for life. Either a single term of four years with possible re-election to a second like the US Constitution or a single term of six years without possibility of re-election like is done in the Confederate Constitution. I prefer the second option because it prevents the Premier's fears of not attaining re-election from doing the right thing as well as keeping him from working less on his job and more on his campaign. This is for the Legislature to decide though. Also, the Premier cannot have the power of decree. He cannot make laws but he can enforce them...and if he veto's a Bill...it should be able to be sent back through the Legislature and passed anyway with a 4/5 vote." he hit the print button on his computer and the revised constitution came out on high quality parchment.

At the same time as this is passed, I will pass laws that allow the Reich to maintain a small military base, approximately 10 square miles on the coast of Esamopia with no less than 5000 men and no more than 10,000 ever occupying it without special permission. This will work like guantanamo bay in Cuba. A 150 year lease will do well. At the same time as this, the Reich will keep a walled and guarded Embassy within all majour Essamopian cities. Also, I wish laws to be passed guaranteeing the safety of Reich soldiers who may wish to remain in this country. Including, but necessarily necessitating dual citizenship. (OOC:like the guy from the story before if you had the occasion to read it) I am making your party the native government of Esamopia while the Reich is still the official government. You will make decisions that the Esamopian Legislature would make under this Constitution. If you are the head of this organization and are able to speak for them all, then give your approval and I shall sign this treaty and begin to end this blasted occupation." The Prince waited for a response.

OOC: After this, if you approve, then I think two more posts from me should end the larger part of the occupation.
Esamopia
03-11-2003, 22:02
OOC: I did read the story of your occupation soldier... truly... touching...

IC: Sardina's disgust did show on her face, despite her attempts to contain it.

"Your highness, the only reason I have written this constitution with great powers to the Premier is because of the strong example your government has given us. You have shown us the weakness of Politurbo cabinet politics and the need for a strong executive."

Before the Prince could counter her argument, she continued:

"Yes, however I do see your point. We shall go with the single six-year term, that will have to do I guess. As for the powers of the Premier, she never had the power of decree... he could only enforce the laws, but all laws must be passed by the Legislature, and cannot be initiated by the Premier."

"Furthermore, the Premier can be removed by a 4/5 vote of the legislature... so if the Legislature has 4/5 or greater support for any resolution, I believe the Premier would be wise to follow it... or be removed."

Sardina took a small break, she had been talking so quickly... she then continued:

"Your plans for a base are obviously approved... I have no real power... everything is in your hands, and if you desire a 150 year lease, then you shall have it. As for the embassies... well as I said you are the Prince, but I would think it a bit excessive if a country had an embassy in every city, wouldn't you? Perhaps this should be limited to the three major cities of Esamopia? As always, however, we are at your mercy, your highness, and will leave the final decision up to you."

"Finally... the issue of the soldiers or any other of your people who wish to continue their lives in Esamopia. That is certainly up to you, as you are the final authority, but I must caution you, while the countryside emerged relatively unscathed and most... greatful, especially by individual acts of kindness by Reich troops, the case cannot be for all. Many, especially in urban areas..." Here Sardina's eyes watered a bit, she had lost most of her family in the V-4 bombings, and did not know of a single friend who did not lose some family member in the carnage. "especially in the urban areas, where so many have been lost. We wish to give these people dual citizenship, if it is your wish, your highness, but we urge you to keep only the most sensitive of soldiers, as resentment and hatred may crop up from anywhere."

"We await your final decisions on the constitution, your highness."

I note with some dismay that this constitution still does not guarantee the right to hold property.

Though all this should be a lesson to Esamopia - the energies of a country are better spent in improving and protecting itself rather than interfering in Interdictions it cannot possibly comprehend.

The Prince looked over the revised constitution. (OOC: We will assume rights to own property added. If not, then just tell me they arent and well fix what we need to.) He took out his pen and signed it on the line above his name and handed over to Sardina for her to sign on the line above her name to give the approval of her party and by proxy, the people of Esamopia.

"I have been deeply touched by the plight of your people, especially as it was caused by my people. I have done everything I could to restore your nation and help your people. If only I could raise the dead I would...but such power is not afforded to me."

He handed her a thick stack of papers, bound in a three ring binder with the Royal Crest on the front. "This is the situation of Esamopia as of last week. Electricity is back on to 95% of the country and even some areas that did not have it now do. Most of the cities have been rebuilt and Reich Companies such as Kreigskorp have opened up several factories in your nation. Essentially, the economy of Esamopia is tied to that of the Reich as most businesses within Esamopia are in some way shape or form Reich owned and operated. We are currently encouraging Esamopian businesses to open and have had some success. Taxes are set at a 15% flat tax until an elected Esamopian government changes it. We have established the outline of the Esamopian Government...now all that needs to be done is to have Reich men removed and Esamopian people put in their places. If you desire any Reich personell to stay and assist you, we will be glad to do what we can. You are our brothers now for better or for worse. We do not want to see Esamopia fail. I assure you, that if you ever have a situation where someone is threatening you, the Reich will support you. We will keep your economy pumping by bringing in new business and defend you no matter what the cost."

He handed her another binder of similar proportions and appearance. "This is the state of the Esamopian Royal Volunteer Regiments. Currently, there are 2 million Esamopian men under arms within the country. They are patroling and protecting and serving in police roles and those of national guard. They are being paid the same high salary as a Reich soldier. You have two options on how to deal with this. The Reich can either keep its officers here and continue to assist the Esamopian Army and maintain its Royal Volunteer Regiments during the reign of the Esamopian Government and continue to pay the soldiers and offer more jobs to those out of work, or we can simply withdraw fully, withdraw salaries for the men and allow you to pay them and to develop the rest of the army yourself by purchasing materials from Kriegskorp who is now the number one employer in your nation. If you decide that you would like the Royal Volunteer Regiments to remain under Reich officership and funding and supply etc, then there wont be a cost to the Esamopian Government, we will cover it. But other than that, the pattern is set for you to follow."

He then handed her a third binder but much smaller. "This is Reverend Pritchet's report about his success with Conversion of the Athiests here in Esamopia. Surveys report about 35% of your nation professing a belief in Calvinist Principles (OOC: That can change realistically as you wish it to after we're gone but I always find it healthy to maintain a right and a left wing) and another 20% who profess a belief in basic Christianity although not necessarily Calvinism. Such studies are not fool proof and it cannot be determined without great expense and time whether or not all of these conversions are true and whether or not their belief and faith will disappear with us when we go. People so accustomed to saying what they believe the government wants to hear may have a tendency to stretch the truth about such things. We will never know. Just be advised, if even half of this is true, you have a healthy Christian population within your country."

He took a breath, "I exhort your party to review these materials to better acclamate yourselves with the broader situation and to better enable yourselves to govern Esamopia."

*RNN-E Reich News Network - Esamopian Department*

"Good day, I am Walter Hess and this is the news." the anchor began.

"Today, Prince Will Thompson III accepted the constitution proposed by the representatives of the Esamopian People with a few revisions and decreed that open elections were to take place in three months time. Candidates are to announce their desire and intent to run within the next two weeks."

OOC: You can just say who won...no need to RP a long election. Like if you want Sardina as the Premier then just install her and then Ill RP the Reich getting out however you like them to. But remember, if you get into a jam, Reich forces are there to defend you and they definately have your back.

I note with some dismay that this constitution still does not guarantee the right to hold property.

Though all this should be a lesson to Esamopia - the energies of a country are better spent in improving and protecting itself rather than interfering in Interdictions it cannot possibly comprehend.

OOC: The occupation was in place a long time ago... I've just not had a great deal of time to RP it but since I am currently free, I am doing it. (This happened long before any Interdictions... so ha, ha, and haha!)

Your concerns with regards to property, or any other aspect, are quite irrelevant, as you are not part of the occupation... your advice is unnecessary, unwanted, and will be completely disregarded by Esamopia.

This hijacking was also quite unnecessary... you could have sent a TG to the Reich if you wanted to interfere.

Furthermore, you would do well not to declare an Interdiction anytime someone does something you don't quite like... it shows immaturity, disrespect to the targetted country, and even worse, disrespect to the international community whose support should be garnered to provide international sanctions (not a unilateral interdiction that infringes on everyone's rights.)

The only lesson I have learned, from the Interdiction experience anyway, is that RPing with ultrafuture/space nations is difficult at best, and likely not worth it (please see my various Proclamations and questions I have posted within the last week through a search of Esamopian posts, if you care that is.) I am also puzzled as to why so many nations have you in a "fanclub" of sorts... and I am happy that there are so many others that have started a "hateclub" of sorts...

My only advice to you is this: Its not fun RPing if you hold all the cards... perhaps you should work on that.

Sardinia's discomfort virtually disappeared by the Prince's full report and she felt great comfort when she listened on the state of Esamopia...

Ninety-five percent power eh... even in our prime we could barely get enough power to Esamopia...

After a brief pause, she spoke:

"Of course I will sign the document, your highness, this will be a living document that will organize the basics of Esamopian government for years to come."

"As for the troops, we wish to maintain most Reich officers, at least for the near future, both because this would free Esamopia from the heavy costs associated with paying these troops, but also since we have seen the br- ahem.. efficiency with which they can work. With their leadership Esamopia will never again need to worry about foreign invasion."

"As for property rights, I believe that this is so obvious that we can assume their presence in the constitution, but if necessary we can pass it as a first bill in the newly reconstitued Esamopian Legislature. I must note that even in the Communist days of Esamopia, the regime was intelligent enough to know that interference with property rights would cause its downfall."

"I appreciate your concern with the plight of Esamopians... although my party has always advocated democracy, I must say that there was some backing for the previous regime. Your mercy in our tragedy will help prevent these die-hards from staging a coup... at least any that would have popular backing. I am touched by your caring heart, your highness."

"The 15% flat tax sounds fine for now, we will certainly need the money in the beginning. I am not much of an economist, but I believe that we would be keeping it for a while, at least until the Premier's economic advisers and the Legislature decide on a different policy."

"The only thing that... we find unpleasant... is the report by your religious adviser. We are happy that some people within Esamopia are of faith, but we would rather not discuss it... religion can be such a divisive topic for any nation, especially one which has underwent a massive purge of its Zoroastrian populace... we will certainly grant religious toleration to all and then leave the rest up to the populace."

The topic of religion had been especially troubling to Sardina, her entire life she saw people of many different religions, friends, family, neighbors, all being dragged, shot, and having their family pay the costs of the bullet... all because they had some religious ideals... the long reign of the former regime insured that most people would be uncomfortable, at best, to even mention the "r" word in public, and she was no exception.

"We thank your highness for decreeing free elections, I can assure you that I will be running for the UAD (United Alliance for Democracy), but I can assure you that there will be some remnants of the old regime... or their parasitic beneficiaries, who will try to run. If we are done, I must prepare my campaign."

Thinking that the Prince had no more to say, she gave a salute (the Esamopian equivalent for a handshake,) and headed towards the door...

OOC: All lines up and is good. Are we to RP the election with the Prince endorsing candidates etc etc or what would you like to do? I can even leave some of the appointed Reich nobles there if you want them to administrate the areas that are difficult to administrate. But as I understand it, the Reich will handle your military situation and most of the economy at this point. Reich officers are even manning utilities at this point. We need to train Esamopians to take the places of those people.

On that note, do you want the Prince himself to continue to reside in Esamopia or would you rather him leave as well? He is gone for now anyway...on campaign since his father is sick... but when he returns, should he return to Esamopia or back home to Reichskamphen.

OOC: Many apologies for not doing this earlier, no time!!!

IC: The upcoming elections were a matter of extreme importance for the future of Esamopia, yet the situation was rather perplexing. With no Esamopian government in place to actually administer elections, the responsibility would have to fall to the Reich, which was already so heavily involved that many Esamopians were bound to distrust the results.

The solution for this situation came up when a meeting of major party leaders met amongst the ruins (now being reconstructed, of course,) of Esamopia City. These leaders signed a petition requesting Reich oversight but warning that any undue interference, intimidation, or favoritism by the Reich would not only invalidate the results but result in a round of turmoil and frustration exploding on the streets of Esamopia.

In the mean time, the following are each candidate's bio for the position of PREMIER of Esamopia (OOC: There will be no bios for the legislative races!):

Name: Sardinia
Age: 29
Party Affiliation: UAD (United Alliance for Democracy)
Ideology: Democracy with strong executive, laissez-faire capitalism.
Notes:
She is by far the youngest candidate for the leadership of Esamopia, both now and in its entire history. This may be seen as a representation of the demographic (40% of Esamopians are 18-29 years old,) but is also a testament to the ambition of the candidate. She is widely supported for her pre-war involvement in the then illegal-UAD, and is praised by all Esamopians for having the courage to draft and present the constitutional document to the Royal Prefect of Esamopia.

Name: Stanislov Berzunski
Age: 38
Party Affiliation: PPP (Peasant Power Party)
Ideology: Representative Democracy, primarily agriculture-based economy plan.
Notes: Although highly modernized in some areas, Esamopia never had a full industrial revolution and many Esamopians preferred the quiet and relatively pollution-free life of farming, with approx. 30% of Esamopians living in rural or farming communities. This section of the demographic was highly oppressed under the previous regime, with govt. soldiers regularly brutalizing the farmers, stealing their crops, and enforcing harsh discipline and impossible quotas. The newly liberated farmers plan to make some gains in the Legislature based on their numbers and on the sympathy of Esamopians, and hope to even land the Premiership!

Name: Igor Stinskin
Age: 55
Party Affiliation: GEP (Greater Esamopian Party)
Ideology: Plans for semi-Authoritarian state, aggressive international relations, restoration of the "glory" of Esamopia.
Notes: Stinskin is the only candidate to publically condemn the presence of Reich forces in Esamopia and only signed the petition for Reich administration of the elections when presented with a fait accompli by all of his opponents.
Igor plans to quickly end relations with the Reich, crush the communist elements of Esamopia once and for all, and has the backing of some die-hard anti-communists who were gravely injured by the ante bellum regime. Plans for the restoration of Esamopia's "glory" are vague at best... it is unclear what Stinskin has planned should he win.

Name: B.N. Benem
Age: 46
Party Affiliation: EWP (Esamopian Workers Party)
Ideology: Return of many living pre-war officials to their previous posts, restoration of Esamopian communism.
Notes: Not much is known about Benem, although he seems to have been some "behind-the-scenes" political operative for the previous government, who was able to escape any arrest due to the flimsy evidence of any connection with the pre-war regime.
B.N. wishes to return to the old days of Esamopia, at the onset of the popular Communist Revolution and plans to "do it right this time." He claims that his government would not be oppressive in the least, be highly efficient, and justifies the restoration of many previous Esamopian bureaucrats to their positions because "the worst elements of the previous regime are either dead or behind bars, while Esamopia is in desperate needs of the technocrats and old bureaucrats who truly know how to administrate the needs of Esamopia." Seen as a long shot by most, due to the brutality of the later years of the previous regime, he has decided to run "on principle."

Other candidates are running, but mostly with local or regional followings at best, and are quite unlikely at winning. At the same time, there will be elections for all the seats of the Esamopian Legislature. The elections will start if and when the Reich accepts the responsibility of administring Esamopia's first free elections in who knows how long.

(OOC: You may endorse candidates if you like, or even indicate to me ICly or OOCly who you want to win, but be careful of too strong a push ICly as this might affect public sentiment.)

IC: P.S. Sorry, one final candidate:

Name: Holmes Kempling (OOC: can be relative or even the Hans Kempling in story if you like, or just a random Reich Joe.)
Age: 30
Party Affiliation: No organized party, however appeals to Reich officers, soldiers, and all citizens now living in Esamopia.
Ideology: Seeks to use the campaign to promote acceptance of new element in society, unlikely to win due to lack of significant organization, but anything is possible.
Notes: Seeks to use the media attention of the upcoming elections to focus in on a new element of the nativist (even xenophobic) Esamopian society, consisting of the Reich personnel now residing in Esamopia.

IC: The Royal Prefect of Esamopia, Prince Will Thompson III, walked out onto the stone balcony overlooking (Insert name of an Esamopian General who opposed Communism but was still fighting for his home) Square. The masses thronged infront of his window to hear the proclamation that they had been told was forthcoming. Some had posters protesting Reich presence there. Reich soldiers stood nearby but did not stop them...this was truly a foreign thing to many. "Citizens of Esamopia City!" He called out to the crowd immediately reaching into their souls and pulling their thoughts and hearts to him, "You know I am a fair man and that my father is a fair man. We have done great works for you. Your country now, is better off than it ever was under Communism. You will notice the people here, booing and hissing as I speak. Can you imagine them doing this under the old regime? I cannot." the booers stopped a moment to contemplate this. "The Reich shall oversee this election but we shall not interfere with the results. What I seek most is the will of the people. Now, if I seek to know the will of the people, why, I ask you, would I wish to do anything to interfere with the outcome of the election. The voting will be a national plebescite. There will be no restrictions on voting. The lowliest pauper and the most wealthy socialite can cast his vote for whom he wishes. What I can assure you though, is that I will NOT allow an oppressive government to weigh you down. I feel a special bond with Esamopia and with you, the people of Esamopia. I will NOT allow you to be trod upon and for the villains who previously hounded you and raped and robbed you of all you worked for to return to continue canibalizing you and your hard work.!" This drew a large cheer from the crowd. "God Bless you all! God Save Esamopia!" The prince walked back inside and closed the door to the balcony. Some stood still, emotionless. Some booed and protested. Some cheered wildly, even a number of yells of "God Save the King!" in response to the Prince's exclamation could be heard from the crowd.

King Will Thompson II, Sovreign of the Triune Kingdom has passed away of what appear to be natural causes. The body has been identified without a doubt to be that of King Will and he currently lays in state in the Rotunda of the Royal Palace in Reichsburg.

Memorial Services in the King's Honour shall be held in all chapels throughout Esamopia. Those wishing to attend the funeral of King Will shall be provided with the means to transport themselves to Reichskamphen at a relatively low cost.

Despite this fact, the Reich shall continue to maintain a presence in Esamopia until freedom has been restored to the people. Prince Will Thompson III, who had returned home briefly to convene with his father is now to stay in Reichsburg for up to a week before returning to Esamopia City.

The heir to the throne was not decided by the King and is now being voted upon by the Nobles and Parliament.

Just before the announcement of the King's terrible fate, election results had come in:

Although a previously unnamed candidate, Onoha Illi, made a brilliant showing by insulting all sides and pointing at the hypocrisy of all governments (he was an advocate of anarchism,) The United Alliance for Democracy's candidate, Sardina, has emerged victorious with 61% vote. Her absolute majority in the polls prevents the need for any second round of elections and is a great advantage since she has been given a mandate by the people to advocate and protect democracy. Exit polls indicated that many respected her for her pre-war convictions as well as for her brave showing by going to the Prince to demand a constitution.
The showings for other candidates have been much lower, but a complete tally will be broadcast later nonetheless.

As for the legislature of 200 seats, the UAD controls 101, barely enough for a majority, again the announcements on how the rest break down will be forthcoming, but there is something much more important going on, the unfortunate demise of the Reich leader.

"I believe that most of my countrymen support me in saying that we feel our deepest sympathy and condolensces with the late King, may his death bring him to a better place and may his country live on," was the first statement spoken by Vice-President Nick Chany on the first meeting of the legislature. The announcement elicited mixed emotions, some were on the verge of tears, some ignored it entirely, and others booed shamelessly.

It is uncertain how many Esamopians will take the government's offer to visit the Reich for services, however, there is an indication that many will do so if only to visit the Reich's country, with the funeral being one of many parts of the trip.

At this very moment, Prince Will Thompson III, Royal Governor of Esamopia and Grand Duke Michael Thompson (OOC: Real evil creepy guy) are fighting a duel for the succession of the throne outside of Reichsburg in an open fields with heavy sabres. Reports indicate that the second of Grand Duke Michael demanded the fight be to the death.

In a related story, the cause of this contention comes from an indecisive decision in Parliament. Grand Duke Michael, due to the high number of Scottans in the Parliament narrowly got the greatest number of votes for succession to the the throne, but not the required 251 for such matters. The Convened Nobles of the Triune Kingdom unanimously selected Prince Will III to be the King and due to the Parliament's hand in formally passing the measure which demanded a duel and thereby condemning either the son of the King or the Nephew of the King (A member of the Royal Family) to death, disbanded the Parliament on grounds that it broke the statutes of the Royal Charter, which it technically did. Prince Will was to be installed upon the throne but honor compelled him to accept the challenge from Grand Duke Michael. Those members of Parliament under house arrest will be let free after the results of the duel are known.

It is truly sad to report, today, the deaths of both Grand Duke Michael and Prince Will Thompson III. The Prince fairly slew the Grand Duke, but due to the villainy of the Grand Duke and his poisoning his blade, the Prince also perished later from the poison.

There was much confusion about who should inherit the throne, but Mark Thompson, the first born son of King Will with his first wife, thought lost to this world during the Wars of the Protectorate, was found alive in the hands of former soldiers of the Protectorate. This is truly a lucky occurance and Mark has been crowned King Marcus Antonius Thompson the Third.

OOC:
IC: To: The President Elect of the Esamopian Government
From: King Marcus Antonius III

Congratulations on your victory in the election. I simply am contacting you to establish relations between myself and yourself as we are both new leaders. Here is the situation as it stands.

The highest ranking Reich official in Esamopia is the commander of the military. (OOC:He is the one from the beginning who was dressed elegantly, he is an older gentleman but by no means frail.) He is the Royal Governor until the arrival of the new one being sent from Reichskamphen now, that being the son of Grand Duke Michael, now a Grand Duke himself since his father's passing, Grand Duke Frederick Wilhelm II of Scotta. However, as soon as Sardina is firmly in place and there is no armed opposition against her, the Reich will hand over control to the new Esamopian government as we had previously spoke of and remain behind militarily to assist as well as economically and politically should it be necessary. I see no reason to maintain political control beyond that time. I intend to continue my Father's policies on Esamopia and I also intend to protect Esamopia and her people from any harm that can come to them. God Save the People! God Save Esamopia!

*Address by King Marcus Antonius to the people of Esamopia...already in progress*

It has been my decision, you see, to break from the Reich. The immorality that plagues that place will make beggars out of us all one day, and if not on this earth, then we shall surely be beggars in Hell.

I took it to be in the best interests of the people of the Triune Kingdom and of Esamopia to move together away from this malignant force. We must move together as one to reach a higher plane of existance on this earth, and through doing so, perhaps we may in the next.

It is in this spirit that I founded the region of Greater Prussia. I chose this name because of the parallels to the situation which now plagues us. The Reich has become as the Holy Roman Empire was in its declining days. Prussia was granted freedom from the Empire and then grew to outshine the Empire. We shall do thus. People the world over shall know and fear the wrath of Greater Prussia, the Triune Kingdom, and Esamopia.

OOC: Going on the assumption that you will follow what you said on the TG you sent me.

God Save the People!
